  1. Glad he's been reunited with owners and thanks to you for posting!
  2. Walked past St Faith's in North Dulwich today and noticed they're running a summer playscheme/holiday club for age 6-11 year olds from 9am-4pm (sure that was the times) but can't recall exact dates but a poster is outside.
  3. Lloyds have a branch at Camberwell.
  4. I drove through Herne Hill (half moon lane) alongside the Oxfam charity shop the Christmas/new year period before last and spotted a massive pile of donations outside the shop. There were at least 40 different bags. It had been raining fast and most of the stuff was ruined but ornaments etc. seemed to be saveable. The Oxfam bookshop just across the road was open so went in and suggested they take the stuff in. They blankly refused saying they didn't have the room so I went away feeling quite sad.
  5. I would think the binmen wouldn't want to start opening up doors to get to the wheely bins so would leave them in full view for collection somewhere near? They do a fantastic and necessary job in my opinion.
  6. Thanks for letting us know Ruffler. Buses and cars were still held up for a while coming from Burgess Park to Camberwell and to the lights near Nandos around 1.30 this afternoon and plenty of tooting and shouting so glad it's over.
  7. My post was geared towards the original poster in that nobody had replied.
  8. Quite surprised you've only had comments 12 hours later about Bessemer. I think they have had Friends at Bessemer posts on here to promote the school.
  9. Just to say Charter, Red Post Hill's policy for admissions seems to have changed for 2018. If you look on their website they have five admission points. Point iv (five) which is the last admission criteria, is for students living nearest to the school. So if you live near to the school you might have a chance. Point v (four) is for the admission of children of teachers at the school.
  10. There's so many of these studies appearing recently but you have to take them with a pinch of salt I think. My dear Dad walked for miles every week up until his 70s (sometimes walking to the Elephant and Castle from Denmark Hill and swam three times a week and grew his own fruit/veg but still developed Alzheimers which goes against all the studies that are out there i.e. walking, exercise, good diet.
  11. I agree with womanofdulwich!
  12. I remember her telling me they had square helmet type things on too!
  13. My mum was a cook/dinner lady at a Southwark secondary school in the mid/late 1970s when she and her colleagues were confronted with people in spacesuit type outfits walking around the kitchen area! They were looking for asbestos but didn't care about the staff.
  14. They also have a list of Southwark childminders.
  15. Yes it's all really confusing as the government are also launching another service in September called 'Tax-Free Childcare' for parents but best to contact nurseries themselves to see if they will be offering the 30 hours. The 15 hours was a struggle for some and most are probably going ahead with the 30 hours but the last figure I heard HM government were offering to nurseries was ?4.88 per hour.
  16. Maybe a sign could be put on the shop door saying 'Sorry but we cannot accept donations until further notice' or something like that? That would stop the build up and staff having to deal with not just storing/sorting the stuff but talking to customers. Trinidad is also probably questioning the attitude of the staff e.g. after placing his bags on the ground he left without a word but was then met by a warm and inviting manager in the small shop.
  17. Walking down Denmark Hill tonight around 7pm and vehicles/men in place ready to start roadworks on stretch of road outside the supermarket just past fox on the hill pub. Walking back up at 8.30pm and temporary lights just after the fox on the hill causing tailbacks back to the Denmark Hill estate. Also, bus lane along the Salvation Army building heading from Denmark Hill train station semi closed due to these roadworks and so causing trouble at junction where turning right to go past King's. Build up of traffic going back way past Denmark hill train station. Looks like something being done with the cycle lanes but who knows how long it will last. Best avoid as lots of beeping going on!
  18. Could you let us know the name of the street, emc?
  19. Not just in the hands of the school, but hopefully parents have a part to play in not knowing where their children are after school?

  21. Are you a cyclist or a car user Bopper?
  22. Programme on BBC1 this morning called Britain's Home Truths. Only caught the last 5 minutes or so but looked interesting and was all about how Peckham was changing. Presenter used to live in Peckham.
  23. Sorry to hear! How did you find out about the two break-ins?
  24. Not sure what you mean? There is a stone memorial area for remembrance sunday etc.
