flu vaccination offered by school
hammerman replied to sweetgirl's topic in The Family Room Discussion
A nasal spray flu vaccination wasn't around when my son and two daughters were at school and it doesn't sound invasive so I would go with it. They all had their other jabs e.g. polio/tb/meningitis/tetanus that seemed the general thing. I was a bit worried when the HPV (cervical cancer) jab was offered to girls in school around 2010 as there were lots of pros and cons but I went with both my girls having it at school as in that past year (2009) Jade Goody had passed away with cervical cancer. My youngest daughter (18) has just this week had the new Meningitis W vaccine at our local GPs as she is going off to university tomorrow. She actually reminded me a few weeks about where to get it done. -
I would agree that that part is definiely in need of a make-over and some kind of CCTV. I've not walked along that pathway for ages on my own (only with my daughters going to Sainsburys) and I recently told them to be careful when they walked there the other day. Then again, I would never walk up the main Greendale path on my own as that's where a lot has happened in the past. Once you are going through there then there's no escape!

I watched a documentary this week about how horses played a great part during the past and first world wars. There was a clip about 5 friends who went into no mans land on their horses. Four of the horses were shot dead and so their riders were left stranded in no mans land. The last remaining horse and his rider went into no mans land and carried them all back to safety. That's five adults on one horse hanging on to the saddle etc.

Hmm, saw a young man loading up the Halloween section in M&S section recently!

Sorry to hear of your experience Musique. The Greendale pathway starting from where the Greendale pub used to be (where the block of new flats is now next to the Mothergoose nursery) right along to the old scouts hall near to the East Dulwich Grove part has always been a precarious walk. As you say, it's been a great short cut for many years to shops and local schools/nurseries but once you enter it then it's very quiet, overgrown and literally no where to go if you do feel worried. I remember a violent mugging years ago involving a carer and children. 5/6 years ago I witnessed a terrible dog on dog attack. I'm sure lots of other things have gone on in between and surprised that local schools, shops don't get involved too.

Jacqui5254, it's good you've flagged this up! I've donated to many charity shops (including St Christopher's) over the years and just hope for the best that they can make some money. Going back to other posters and donating to charity shops is sometimes very personal and you have to try to detach yourself from the person receiving your precious goods! I've also found a lot of charity shops are selling lots of new goods for sale. Personally I don't go into a charity shop looking for new goods but maybe it's something for the future. I took a pair of ladies good clean wellington boots into a charity shop a while ago (think it was when we had snow around) and they said they couldn't accept them as had their own range on sale. So I had to take them home but later they were made use of! Tuesday morning I walked into the Mind shop on the roundabout with a bag of donations with a lady who just held out her arms as if to say thank you. I then proceeded to look around and was there for around 10 minutes. In that time my bag of donated clothes was thrown out all over the shop with a lot of other stuff in full view of customers.

I really support Jimlad for what he is doing in his area about the parking situation! We had the same thing i.e. people parking for buses/trains who lived miles away, parking their cars to go to work in local schools/hospitals and it became a total nightmare for local residents i.e. disabled/elderly/families with children/just people wanting to park outside their own homes. At first I wasn't in favour of anything different. The CPZ isn't that hard to live with and that's only if you have to book a delivery or something. You can still have deliveries/friends park before 12 or after 2pm so it's not the end of the world. Unfortunately any CPZ just pushes the problem out to other areas which are feeling the effects now.

I've just a week ago tipped a fiver for my daughter's haircut which I usually cut myself. She doesn't have a haircut that often so I didn't mind and she was pleased with it.

Urgent advice needed on primary schools in Dulwich
hammerman replied to polingc's topic in The Family Room Discussion

Was going to recommend Chom Chom's in Beckenham as was there for a family member's 60th in February but sadly it looks like they have closed. The Toby Carvery off Eden Park Avenue used to have different food selections.

But you've not been able to buy a pint of milk or a loaf of bread for years in Dulwich Village! If I had seen the guy in Village Way I would have pointed him in the way of the general store opposite Delawyck Crescent which sells bread/milk which has been open a few years. Then again, this shop is never open so where does one go for essentials if they can't get it here? The Plough is miles away!

Your son sounds like he is doing really well i.e.phonics and reading at his age (which is still very young going into Year 1). Is he left-handed by any chance as this can be an issue with handwriting but not something negative. I would wait until he is fully into Year 1 and talk to the teachers about any concerns.

Be careful! Phone snatching attempt - East Dulwich Road
hammerman replied to sarah g's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hope you are ok Sarah. Sounds like these motorbike people are everywhere. A couple of months ago around 3pm I was turning left into Northcross Road from Lordship Lane and two motorbikes/scooter drivers were weaving about all over the place and just acting out of the ordinary. Half an hour later I was trapped in a row of cars along Whately road (spelling?) as an elderly person was in trouble in their car and was blocking the flow of traffic. These motorbikes were weaving about again, very intimidating, I locked my car doors a couple of times in between trying to help the person but still felt a bit shaken as they were all over the place. -
When is it too early to make noise in the morning?
hammerman replied to malumbu's topic in The Lounge
Supermarket delivery vans on a sat/sun am annoy me. Lots of needless banging and crashing. -
Reading the original post as 'hangar' seems interesting as a lot of people have followed on using the 'a' instead of 'e' including James Barber! Hope you get the cycle hanger sorted.

The Mind shop is closed for refurbishment.

Completely agree with you sorchamr! I've also had a few timewasters on the forum lately and have stayed in to wait for their arrival and left my mobile number etc.

Camberwell Morrison's car park now charging blue badge holders to park
hammerman replied to trinidad's topic in The Lounge
Not sure about that Trinidad and hope you can sort it out re the disabled blue badge. I've always shopped at Morrisons (parked, walked, bus) and all the other shops in Butterfly Walk for years but the other day found out the car park is due for some kind of makeover! Morrisons don't own the car park so whoever does is free to do what they want. -

My nephew had his white Ford Transit Luton van stolen from Sunray Avenue, SE24 sometime last night/early morning today with all his work tools, personal equipment inside. Last seen in Lordship Lane area this morning. Registration VE12 TGU. Driver side wing mirror is smashed. Please contact Ben on 07950 349950 if spotted. Thanks.
