New Street Furniture Dulwich Village
hammerman replied to smooch's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I thought I saw something going on a week or so ago at the junction with more tat being added. This is a disgrace! Why are Southwark allowed to do this to this junction which was a perfectly functioning junction before the pandemic and now they are putting in this ridiculous amount of stupid rainbow coloured seating. Southwark are now planning to close the road opposite this junction (Turney Road) which has been a normal transport road for many many years and have given residents/businesses only a few weeks to lodge any complaints/disagreements! If Turney Road is closed off, this will be a disaster for Dulwich Village and areas around it, with displaced traffic and residents/carers cut off like they already are and having to travel through more gridlocked areas. Shame on Labour Southwark Council! -
Never heard it called Halloween Hunt but Trick or Treat and always on the 31st October, whatever day it falls on.

I've been a regular at Poundland in Camberwell for years now. They have maybe three quarters of the store at £1 and the rest has increased to over £1 to £2/£3 and more per item. Just have to watch the price tags. I get lots of bits in there much cheaper but have recently found Morrisons which is just next door has cheaper prices on handwash, shower gel, soaps, shampoos, at under £1 and they are excellent products. Also, the Camberwell Poundland have recently shut all their self checkouts and don't open them until 11am which is annoying as there are always queues and the management don't seem to be on top of it. I think this is because they seem to have an alarming amount of shoplifters at the store in Camberwell but not enough security.

I wondered why Sainsburys had shut the main entrance out of the store for some time, but then when they brought in that one had to scan their receipt to get out of the basket shopping area I think it's probably to do with the high incidence of shop lifting in the store. Shop lifting equals loss of earnings for Sainsburys. This must have an effect on staff numbers but then again with Christmas coming up they must need to keep and retain staff and deal with what's happening in store.

Anyone seen 2 stray blue recycling bins?
hammerman replied to a_m's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Good luck with ordering a new bin. I ordered a new green bin months ago as mine has a massive crack down one side. Nothing going on so just have to stuff a lot of rubbish in and hope for the best. Luckily on the street where I live I'm the only one that puts my bins out on collection day so the bin men empty it regardless. -
Is Ruskin House School Nursery good?
hammerman replied to rosaliedehennin@hotmail.com's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole! -
Erm, we are talking about criminals targeting school children here, in Dulwich Park? It's got nothing to do with the cost of living crisis. I visited my local supermarket around 5.30pm this evening and whilst choosing some bits, noticed three youngsters coming in, hooded up and devil masked. All wearing the latest designer clothing. Could tell they were looking for trouble due their language etc. but they couldn't have been older than 14 years old and then proceeded to trash and try to steal stuff from the shop. Luckily the shop manager stood up to them (to great threat to himself) and they ran away. Where are the parents of these youths?

Tours of Dawson’s Heights UPDATED

What an unbelievable post! -
Yes I've read everything.

Oh dear Sue, just because you have thousands of posts on the forum it doesn't mean somebody who has just two recent posts cannot have a view on the subject! And they also live just a stone's throw from the Grove Tavern so surely have to endure what is happening on the site! I remember when this was the Harvester's and had many a lovely meal out with friends and family inside and outside in the gardens. Then it suddenly shut because of a fire in the premises and was boarded up for years with no input. How very sad.

Good that London Transport is doing this. The old style buses were great, although I remember when the lower deck was full you had to go upstairs to the top deck. Smoking was still allowed on the top deck up until around 40 years ago (not sure about that date) but just remember sitting in a sea of smoke when I had just finished work!

How do you know nobody important reads the Daily Express Malumbu? Considering it's a national newspaper read across the United Kingdom I find this quite an astonishing and absurd point of view. As for the Daily Mail newspaper, it's the first thing I have to read asap every morning.

Lime bikes (and other hire companies) left in middle of pavement
hammerman replied to first mate's topic in Roads & Transport
I've suddenly noticed an influx of these Lime bikes and scooters left everywhere in the North Dulwich/Denmark Hill area. Early one morning last week there were 4 or 5 of the things left in a stretch of pavement outside a few houses in the area and then more all around the Red Post Hill/Casino Avenue area. It's not acceptable and just creates more street litter -
I was 13 in the 1976 heatwave and had younger sisters and we just got on with things! Didn't know a heatwave was on really but must have been hard for my parents. I do remember standpipes in the street and people lining up.

Can I drive down court lane?????
hammerman replied to rachel.dgc's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
So glad you will be able to drive down Court Lane now from Lordship Lane and that somebody on the good old East Dulwich Forum has clarified this for you. Southwark Council like to make things so complicated and their signage situation is ridiculous. The clutter at the Dulwich Village end of Court Lane makes me sad when I remember how it used to be. It's the same with knowing whether to drive through Dulwich Village at any time from the Red Post Hill traffic lights just past North Dulwich train station. This is perfectly fine. It's just coming in from the other way that a fine is incurred! -
I really feel for the teachers! They are having to deal with these disruptive pupils whilst trying to teach their planned lesson to pupils who want to learn and engage.

Travelling alone at 10-years-old
hammerman replied to Bellenden Belle's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Erm, I did read the OP's post and they asked for opinions? I alone didn't say the journey is too complex for a 10 year old so do not quote my messages.
