  1. It's a good bit of PR for the shops - presents a customer-focussed image - and though I've never used one myself, I can see the bonus of using a personal shopper. Shopping *can* be exhausting, especially as most women's clothes are designed for 6 foot 5 skinny boys!!
  2. i don't remember ever reading that 'everyone' is getting 5 As for A-levels. Ever. Nor do I buy into the correlation between being clever and getting good grades - there are many other factors which make young people do well in A Levels.
  3. that's a lovely blog post, Fuschia.
  4. Same as Gina. Fed my son to sleep till he was 2. Now he's 7 and sleep is not and never has been an issue. Follow your maternal instincts and just enjoy these special early years.
  5. This forum is becoming more and more big brotherish (Orwell not crap TV). I find it v dubious that these kids' address is on here for all to read.
  6. Lived opposite the rye when the irish festival was on with my newborn and it was massively irritating and disruptive and the music was dire but it was advertised so could be avoided
  7. TK Maxx in Brixton is good, too
  8. He could still have a sick child - not all of us have nuclear families!
  9. LondonMix - yes, and Melbourne Grove is quite lengthy. I'm thinking of Grove Vale end. Tatianadis - the council weren't particularly helpful, in fact the opposite, but the schools themselves were. And so was Tessa Jowell, the local MP, but that's another story... My son is at Goose Green and I can thoroughly recommend it - v happy children and a lovely atmosphere. Bullying is a big concern of mine, too, and the school deal with it quickly and nip it in the bud. And I occasionally pick a friend's children up from Dog Kennel Hill and it seems a very creative and, again, friendly school. Good luck with all your choices and decisions - from what I can gather, all of the schools in East Dulwich are bloody brilliant!
  10. Thanks. Having been through the allocation system and its associated nightmares and waiting list systems I kind of trust my own experiences more.
  11. "I would suggest Melbourne Grove and its surrounding streets. Melbourne Grove has historically been in the catchment for the Dulwich Village Schools (Village Infants and Hamlet), Bessemer Grange and Heber Primary." Really??? Is this a joke?? Bessemer Grange perhaps, but this area is near Goose Green, and then I'd say Dog Kennel Hill, two amazing schools. I'd eat my hat if you got into DV or Heber from there. ETA I rent from Dulwich & Village Residential - they manage my property - and I'd give them 10 out of 10 for a job well done. I recommend them.
  12. On a good day (176 bus)!
  13. I find it unnerving that you put photos of people up on an internet forum And August 8th is tomorrow, no?
  14. I think you should expect and ask for a payrise - your job will be more senior, so they should recognise that financially. I thought this would have been a given.
  15. Hello all, Any new parents (or old) who'd like to follow Goose Green on twitter the handle is @GGPrimarySchool - obviously there won't be much of import over the next few weeks but the school will be tweeting school info into the academic year 2012/13... Thanks, Jess
  16. Good LUCK Bradley!!!

  19. Well done to Bradley Wiggins!
  20. my son saw an amazing NHS ENT specialist at St Thomas' - the wait wasn't that long
  21. Yes, sleep is the best remedy for me. But working full time and being a single parent alas often not an option for me - something the doc at kings was v v good at recognising.
  22. Yes, my specialist eventually put me on anti epilepsy pills about 2 years ago (topamax) which have helped enormously. More than anything, finally finding a doctor who took me and the headaches seriously was relief in itself. Spooner, I'll send you a PM about the clinic I attend.
  23. I've suffered migraines for years, varying from mild to debilitating. I see someone at King's now, but was given a good tip once which I still use in emergencies: dissolve aspirin (or in my case solpadeine as i'm sensitive to aspirin) in a glass of full sugar coke and down it. Seems to take the edge off (obviously without having taken any other painkilling medication). And also, the most recent doctor I saw told me to always take antinausea medication with painkillers for migraine as apparently something happens to the stomach during migraine even if nausea isn't a normal symptom (never is for me, really) which makes it more difficult to absorb the painkiller, though all my meds are prescribed by the doctors at kings for me now. So in a nutshell, I'd go to the doctor! Migraines are not fun, and are the bane of my life. You have my empathic sympathies.
  24. I have no magic solution but oh good grief, I could have written that post myself! My 7 year old son loathes his homework. It's the low point of our week. I didn't get homework till I was 14!! Seems a lot of pressure for kids.
  25. Hi Susyp - working mums get no tax breaks, or any help from the government - not anymore, and not this one, anyway!!
