Found Tabby/Tortoiseshell cat in East Dulwich
cordsm replied to cordsm's topic in Lost, Found or Stolen
Hi Sobbie, Thanks for your message - it's much appreciated. I will put up a few notices in the area, to see if anyone claims him/her. If that doesn't work, then, yes, I'd like to check if the cat is microchipped. As the cat is a little nervous, I'd really appreciate your help. Do you work on your own or are you a volunteer at one of the local rescue centres? I was wondering about calling Celia Hammond as well, as they seem to be much mentioned on this forum. Thanks again... -

You need to really look at your language and consider its effect. It's not for you to decide whether your language is ridiculing/belittling. People repeatedly tell you they find your words offensive. You have apparently been banned from the main areas of the site in the past. Yet, you refuse to take responsibility for your behaviour and continue to blame everyone else. They are 'sheep' and 'followers' and 'vain'......only you 'dare'to speak your mind. My advice to you to try and see some positive in people was well-meaning. I find your response childish and narcissistic. Feel free to go on fighting against so-called bragging/vain behaviour, you brave crusader. Just start with your own posts in future.

Out of curiosity, I've checked on Louisa's newly found 'evidence' of social queuing (ie people tweeting about queuing for the new restaurant openings/shops in East Dulwich). Yes, some people have tweeted about great food at the likes of Franco Manca etc. I can't see anyone 'bragging' about being in the queue though....funny that. Interestingly, just as many people seem to have tweeted about the lovely produce at Ayres (their cronuts seem popular) and the lovely fish dishes made with fish from Sopers. Instead of 'social bragging', perhaps there are just lots of people in the area who like to support local businesses and share a variety of their experiences online sometimes. People posting about their restaurant experiences on social media can be interpreted as 'showing off', but I think it's preferable to just give people the benefit of the doubt and put it down to them finding an enthusiastic pleasure in new tastes & experiences and wanting others to have the same positive experiences. I remember a series of recent posts from an ED Forum regular about Memsaab restaurant, including multiple photos of food and details of the free drinks received. This social media posting could be be labelled 'social bragging' but I think it's best to just be nice and say they were being enthusiastic and supportive of a new business. Final point! If I were ever in a position when everybody (bar one) strongly disagreed with my views and actually found them deeply offensive, I would give proper consideration to the thought that I might be in the wrong.....Unless, of course, I was just trolling and trying to maliciously belittle and ridicule people.

messageRe: Le Chardon sold Posted by Ghlpc Yesterday, 09:00PM Seriously, this thread is great! Keeps me going while the wife has love island on the tv ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yup....Flangate has been good! The people running Tart must be wondering what kind of weird area they've moved into!

Yes! Agree with Nigello. The Herne Hill banners look quite attractive. I think one of the ideas for the ED ones (should they happen) is that they showcase local artists, which seems quite a nice idea... Could the money be better spent on social care/filling in potholes/mending pavements etc......Yes! Although, could the same argument then apply to any 'non-essential' (in itself, subjective) government or council spending? E.g. art galleries and firework displays (to give two random examples)... I doubt we get any say in the matter, but admire anyone up for trying...

RE: Mature trees cut down around East Dulwich

Penguin 68 - my slight irritation was with the over-generalised (and incorrect) statement from a user that trees shouldn't be planted in the Winter. Also I felt sorry for the OP, as I thought some people's responses were on the rude side. The RHS and Woodland Trust both say that bare-root and rootballed trees should be planted between late Autumn and early Spring. That's good enough for me. Clearly not when the ground is frozen solid or flooded though.I'm not a horticulturalist and cannot comment on the stress levels of urban trees! -

The tree-planting season is from mid-November into early Spring. Checking some simple facts before telling someone that their email suggesting re-planting of trees in Winter is 'inappropriate' might be an idea! -
The Cheese Shop and adjoining Health Shop Lordship Lane
cordsm replied to Spangles30's topic in The Lounge
Well I feel sorry for The Cheese Block, as I really doubt that LL can support two cheese shops (plus a stall in the market on Saturdays. They may not be super friendly in The Cheese Block, but they're never rude...Their shop is very well stocked with cheese and a well-chosen selection of other food goods. How anyone can interpret that as 'not interested/not interesting', I don't know.... -
Someone ran into M&S yesterday, grabbed the biggest turkey available and pegged it down the street.

What a fantastic map. You're right about the crab apple trees showing up as pear trees though.

I agree. I can cook a decent curry, if I do say so myself. A crispy, traditionally-made sourdough pizza is much harder to achieve. Hence why people tend to buy them in.

DF is right. There were lots of energetic, serious-looking people wandering around the Co-op with clipboards a few evenings ago, discussing plans. While they were there, the tills were all manned and the everyday staff were working at lightning-speed. Back to normal now though!

I think it's a caper spurge (which is a type of euphorbia). It's a weed and grows quite high. Deters moles, not that they're a problem in London:) http://wildflowerfinder.org.uk/Flowers/S/Spurge(Caper)/Spurge(Caper).htm

Ayres isn't a cafe though...Different pricing structures.

Hammam spa by the Rose pub? Can anyone tell me more!? I've tried googling but can't find anything...

Dulwich Leisure Centre..poor management

I really like the pool and having been a student again this year, I've paid 60p a swim - great value & one of the very few decent student discounts that still exist. -
Dulwich Park - What are the dos and donts..
cordsm replied to OD's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Agree. Isn't London supposed to have more park space than any city in the world? 47% of the city is 'green space'! -
Anyone know if they're open in the evenings, like Oddono's?

Burro e Salvia is coming to East Dulwich
cordsm replied to burroesalvalnd's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I agree that it's not a cheap meal, but given it's pretty much ready to eat (after 3 mins in boiling water & a bit of olive oil/butter), then it's still a cheaper option than a takeaway curry or pizza. I have a sneaky suspicion that some people professing amazement at the ?6 cost (for what looks like 2 x portions), wouldn't think twice about spending the same amount on a kebab for 1;) -
I've found that maintaining rituals works for me. So, I'll still use a wine glass at meals, just with mineral water in it. And tonic water with ice & a slice is (almost) as good as a G&T:) The turkish shop on LL near Goose Green has a nice range of different fruit juices - apricot, peach, sour cherry etc & they're good value too.

I'm a little bit sad about Icelands going, as I pop in regularly to buy bits & bobs. However... Anyone who actually genuinely shops there MUST know that it's not doing particularly well on LL these days. Most times I go there, there is one counter open & only 1-2 people in the queue. For a high-street supermarket, that's not so good! I would also distrust any argument that it's full of healthy food. Their products may be GM free, but aside from the (very good) frozen veg, fish & veggie products, it's pretty unhealthy stuff (I'm talking about their pre-prepared frozen meals).. Very good when you're in need of cheap haribo & pringles though:)

Agree. Melbourne Grove & Fellbrig Road are the two streets where I always have to watch closely where I put my feet:) I think putting down some bleach sounds like a good idea. An alternative, if it doesn't work, would be a fox repellent product, like Scoot. Should work with dogs too...
