  1. Most of the indigenous people, who live in Dulwich are of C of E religion, and to that extent, so are most of the English people. Part of that religion, was that Sundays was a rest day, and no one used to work, time out day, with the kids etc, which I happen to believe in, now the council is multicultural, we have to put up with changes that suite other cultures, to the detriment of our indigenous culture. I am sure that most home owners in London, do not want a market on their doors steps, with all the noise and hassle that markets create, and especially opening on a Sunday
  2. I never said the council does not listen, what I said was they set up consultations?, and then go ahead a do what they want. I.e.: the local residents did not want Sunday opening, and, in fact, I would think the residents in Northcross Rd,Nutfield Rd, Shawbury Rd, Felbrigg Rd, and Frogley Rd are highly delighted with more traffic using there parking spaces and tearing through their streets. The proposal was thrown out once, but somehow got back in again, I think a few councillors did not like the result and wanted their own way. I don?t think it?s a case of, what I want rather than what the councillors want. When the residents of Ashbourne Grove petitioned to have the Road cut off or made into a one way, it was totally rejected on the grounds of No access for the Fire Brigade, is this not the same in Northcross, the Council should be pandering to the local residents, not people from out of the area, the roads were made for vehicles to use, not stall holders and markets, Why should local residents have to put up with these inconveniences, just so as the council can make money out of the licences, and eventually cut off the whole of Northcross Rd.
  3. It would appear that Southwark Council have taken no notice of the local residents, and gone ahead, and done their own thing. I have lived in Dulwich for 48 years and it is worse now than it ever was. Typical Southwark Council, We will consult with the public, what a load of rubbish, it?s just another way of saying, we will listen to you and waste public money, but we are going to do what we want and not what the public wants, this seems to be the attitude of all politicians in Government and Council. Power to the politicians not the people, we just pay for their mistakes, and let things happen. After all, at the end of the day, they just walk away from it, go to a nice home with a nice income and pension, whilst people are trying to find where the next penny is coming from to pay the rent and taxes so heavily imposed upon us, and wasted by Councils and bureaucracy.
  4. As usual the Powers to be are saying, don?t do what I do, you do as I say, all this talk about get the people involved, load a rubbish. When ever has Southwark Council done what the people want, they screw people?s lives, and think nothing of it; they just seem to want their own way all the time. It seems to me that they spend more money on Road restrictions, and jutting out bus stops, to cause more congestion on the roads, than they do on doing the pot holes, thousands of pounds wasted on putting three Humps across, knowing full well, cars will be permanently park on two of them, all the time. I am against extending the market, cutting the road off, and opening on Sundays, Why should the local residents have to put up with these inconveniences to accommodate mainly people from out of the Borough. All this when we are asked to make Sacrifices for the economy, when in fact Southwark Council have 86 Million pounds in reserve for a rainy day, wonder when that day will be.
  5. No wonder we are in so much SH**.
  6. Always said, Southwark Council could not run a piss up in a brewery, even if they Tried. But what do you expect when they allow Contractors to use "Creative Accounting".
  7. It?s another way of getting rid of the excess money at the end of each year, They are just wasting rate payers money on a road that has worked well for the last 70 years, they know it cause more congestion for normal traffic, but not for buses, just another way of squeezing the car of the road. Driving today is like a nightmare, because of the stupidest of Councillors that put traffic lights where they have never been before and are not needed, Bus stops that stick out in the road so no traffic can get pass, moving traffic causes less pollution than traffic standing still. It?s the buses that causes more congestion than anything else, and they then have the nerve to put in Red Routes, bus lanes which are always empty, and parking facilities, all to get money of the motorists, and then on top of all that they say they have not got enough money to keep the vehicles going for the DISABLED, and all the other cut backs they are making. I say fewer services less Council Tax; after all it?s not us spending all these billions of pounds on Computers that don?t go and planes that don?t fly.
  8. According to the Lib Dems, Southwark Council have 86 MILLION POUNDS of tax payer?s money in reserve for a rainy day.[/b] I THINK THAT RAINY DAY IS HERE NOW. It is after all, rate payer?s money, how long do they have to keep saving our money, whilst increasing our rates, year in and year out. Its money that can be spent back, on the rate payers, on front line services, and reducing taxes. Nine out of 13 elderly day centres are being closed, the buses for the disabled people are being stopped and they now have to travel on Public Transport, these people are DISABLED and seriously ill, where are the brains of these politicians. All the Governments have got us in this mess, and yet with constantly rising prices, they expect the people to suffer more for their mistakes. And to top all that up, they want to keep 86 MILLION pound in reserve, FOR WHAT.? Let?s have some uproar about it all, perhaps other people would like to add their views as to the cut s and Southwark?s Reserve.
  9. Ashbourne Grove is getting quite a bit of this dogs shit, along with the other shit that turns out from the numerous bars in Lordship lane, with people coming out of the bars and pissing everywhere, along with putting bottles through people?s front room windows,Rubbish being left on the pavements in front of food stores and the Council allowing it to happen. It seems that our Councillors always want to do things but never get anything done, stems from the Councils policies, NO ONE IN the COUNCIL IS ACCOUNTABLE, One rule for us and another for them. Now that elections are coming up we seem to, all of a sudden hear a lot from the parties, who wants to help us with our problems, but once they are in, good bye to what?s good for the community, and let?s look after ourselves
  10. The Dulwich Working Mans Club,110a Lordship Lane,Closed down 2001, was going for over 100 years.
  11. Hi Mr Barber, I think you should talk to the shopkeepers next to Somerfield?s, i.e. the John Lewis Chemist, was broken into a few weeks ago, and the card shop, had to put up new iron bars at the back of their shop, I think it?s you that has been misinformed, I only spoke to them last week, and besides, that does not excuse your party from doing nothing about the rubbish outside Somerfield?s, and the fact that it has been turned into a Hostel without any of the residence knowing. The rubbish is still being put there every day.
  12. The Dulwich club 11a Lordship Lane closed down 2001 after 104 years, working mens club.CIU affilated
  13. The Dulwich Club was at 110a Lordship Lane, was there for over a hundred years, closed down in 2001, lack of suport from its members.Had some well known people there, and some very good times.
  14. Hi Gimme and Sean 5 tons, No never, I have lived in Dulwich since 1963, and I have never known the Council to do what the local residence want, I have had a lot to do with them over the years, and one thing for sure is "None of them is ever accountable to the public, they bring in bright ideas, and when they go wrong, one dept blames the other, and your complaint then gets lost, and ultimately, you get the chance to take you complaint to the Local Government Ombudsman, who works for the government, What chances do we stand. Joined the Labour party once and got expelled for Nominating someone, they did not want for Mayor,
  15. The planning permission for the flats above Somerfield`s was given in 2005,(and it was questioned at the time and was found that there was not enough consultation with local people,) it was not discovered until 2007 that tenants did not have any where to put their rubbish. Two years, and it had to be noticed by the residents of Ashbourne Grove, not the Council, who imposed the Conditions, under which they would allow tenants to move in. How many other Planning rules have been broken and not looked at again, after allowing planning permission? I also think that the Council should put weight restrictions on all side roads that are residential only.
  16. Hi Mr JBarber I beg to differ, Mr J Mitchell did know about the hostel, as he hinted to me that there was something he could not say. You are in power in the Council, are you telling me, that a change of use was done without the Council knowing, it would appear that everyone else in the Council knew about it except you and your councillors. When a developer breaks the planning rules the Council are down on them like a ton of bricks. When the Council break the rules you just fob people of with stage 1, 2, and 3, of the complaints procedure and when that is finished your answer is you can now take it to the Ombudsman, you never put your house in order and be seen to do something, about the mistakes that Councillors? and staff make, in fact you give them a another job somewhere else, and more pay, LETS SEE SOME SATISFACTORY JUSTIC DONE whoever is to blame. You have had a petition from the residents of Ashbourne Grove for several problems related to speeding, Arctic lorries coming down the road, parking, rubbish etc, and the only thing that you have decided to deal with is 20 mph speed limit, which will be Nye on impossible to enforce, this is not only my opinion but that of most of the residents of Ashbourne Grove. I did not say the management was placing plastic bags outside the premises, I said the tenants were, and they are only collected once a week, which someone in the Council hastily put in place, to shut us up about the conditions of planning being broke, and to probably cover up, the fact that it was turned into a hostel, as before this for the last four years the rubbish has been left on the pavement in Lordship Lane, and because of years of complaints. Picked up wily nilly by the Council, with promises that the management company for the flats would be prosecuted, NOW we know why there were no prosecutions. The resolution was quite simple the planning committee broke the rules by allowing the residents to move in, without any where to put there rubbish, now do the right thing and move them out, they should not have been there in the first place. We know it?s very hard to resolve, because for the last four years they have had no where to put there rubbish and they still haven?t. The fact is that since this has been a hostel we are now getting graffiti up on the roof of the building and several shops have been broken into. I give Mr J Mitchel his due he has tried to resolbve the problems, but has not tried hard enough, if the rubbish department knows its a hostel, how come you lot dont know.

  18. See,East Dulwich councillor - can I help?
  19. Ashbourne Grove Tenants have been involved with Mr J Mitchell and Southwark Council for the a couple of years trying to sort out problems in Ashbourne Grove , and to be quite honest we have found that you are a waste of time. Rubbish placed outside the flats above Somerfield?s on the pavement in Lordship Lane every day for the last four years, you have done nothing what?s so ever about it in fact you have been deceiving us, but letting us think that you were doing something, when in fact you have been doing nothing. You gave planning permission for the Offices above Somerfield?s to be converted into 10 flats, without any where to put there rubbish and no where to park their cars, because you also allowed them to build on their car park. When Mr J Mitchell was dealing with us, he knew that the offices above Somerfield?s were in fact an HOSTEL not flats, which he could not or would not tell the residents, as he knew there would be uproars in Ashbourne Grove, especially when it turns out that there is rapist in the hostel. Conditions and Reasons for Application Number 04-AP-1067 the dwellings hereby permitted shall not be occupied before details of the arrangements for the storing of domestic refuse have been submitted to (2 copies) and approved by the local planning authority and the facilities approved have been provided and are available for use by the occupiers of the dwellings. This has never been carried out and you knew it, your party and the Council gave a lot of rhetoric to us about taking the owner to court for not complying with these conditions, knowing full well that nothing would be done about, properly because the Council is renting the property as a Hostel. One law for the Council and another for the public. What`s the point of imposing Conditions when you know that you can break them but we cannot.? I give Mr Mitchell his due he has tried, but not hard enough or fair enough.
  20. Fooled again by Lib Dems, who knew the flats above Somerfields, is in fact a new hostell, not just ordinary flats. No wonder the company were never taken to court for dumping rubbish on the foot path. Any one know what sort of hostel it is?,as some of the shop keepers have seen a rise in breakins in the area.I would have thought that if councilors are open and above board, they would have told the local residents. But they have kept it from us, Why?
  21. Here is a copy of a letter, sent to Southwark Council. Regards the proposals for new raised crossings outside Somerfield's in Lordship Lane,I and many of the residents in Ashbourne Grove would not be in favour of this scheme for the following reasons: (1) Ashbourne grove is the nearest turning before this proposed crossing and therefore would become more of a rat run than it is now, the traffic is bad enough at the moment without adding more congestion. (2) We have been complaining about the parking in Ashbourne Grove now for the last six years, to no avail, taking parking spaces away from lordship lane will only lead to more cars parking down Ashbourne Grove, and more upsets for the residents. Somerfield's was allowed to build on a car park, when parking spaces are at a premium, they were also allowed planning permission above their shop for 12 flats, on the understanding that these people moving into these flats did not have cars, What a load of rubbish most of them have cars and where do they park, ASHBOURNE GROVE.. (3) Somerfield's were allowed to get away with planning permission because they said they had some were to put their rubbish which it now turns out that they did not have any were to put their rubbish other than in the street outside a food store. As for the cycle lane this will cause even more congestion in Lordship Lane, all this money, in a time of recession when Councils are cutting back on disabled carers, you are proposing to spend money of the tax payers on cyclists who contribute nothing to the running of our roads, and putting the cyclists over the motorist who without you could not maintain the roads. This proposed crossing scheme is also on a very slight bend which could cause problems late at night when the road is quite. Yours sincerely Fred Ricketts
  22. This is not so much Bawdale road as a bit of information that may be useful to all ED residents with crossovers, the Council; has now recognized that residents with crossovers are entitled to the law being behind them when their drives are obstructed. Here is part of the reply I received from the Local Borough Council.: Quote: ?We will remove any vehicle that intentionally blocks a drive way or vehicle crossover and either relocate it or impound it. If you or your neighbours experience problems then please call the POUND on 02073943334 and a removal truck will be sent to your location immediately it is available.? Hope this helps try it we know it works now. FR
  23. Hi was your tickett sealed properly, if not, like all the ticketts given out in the area, you could appeal on the grounds that the PNC was not sealed properly as stated on the tickett, "OFFICER PLEASE REMOVE THIS TAPE" twice I have appealed and won on the grounds that the PNC had been taken out of the envelope because it was not sealed in the first place as it should be. Hope this might help you.
  24. got to get rid of this Government first, then try and get a Government that looks after the interests of the people of this Country and its people, rather than keep interfering in other countries.
  25. The planes in this area have been increasing for the last four years, I have lived in East Dulwich for the last 40 odd years, and never, until the last three years, I have had to keep turning my television up, just to hear it. Surely there must be something we can all do about it, like a petition, especially with the increase in air traffic. The noise has also increased since the City airport has been running. There are enough of us to at least bring it to the attention of the Government and Councils
