Thank you chartwell for the link to Southwarks veiw on trapping foxs... I'm horrified we could be outside the law in our approach to the pest problem. Needless to say we wont be using that method again however successful it was. We are far more worried of turning into the pariah of the district. Not twenty minutes ago while queing in Somerfields two women slightly ahead of me were saying how disgusted they were at the thought of what the poor foxs had been subjected to and what she would like to do if she had the chance. Her language was less than christian paricularly as between them they had three small children looking wide eyed and upset. I was so red faced I had to leave the que pretending I'd forgotten something. As for the pit thing, it was'nt really a pit. It was just a hole our cleaner agreed to dig for a little extra money. She had no problem with what we were doing and said where she comes from they did much the same thing or just shot them (shes from Kuznetsk, Russia). I can assure all in the forum we will never do anything like this again and as my partner is now a dab hand with a catapult and ballbarings we certainly have no need.:-$

Must admit it was'nt very pretty but it was devilishly effective. I'm very squeemish about these things and as soon as the pest stopped comming into the garden I made my better half dismantle and burn the trap (made from wicker, wire and a spring from an old bed). We planted a dogwood bush on the pit which is thriving. That was about 18 months ago. We would'nt know how to remake the trap if we had to but our friend is visiting us this July and am sure he would be happy to make another.

We moved here from Brondesbury a little while ago. Sold a small flat for a massive profit which enabled us to buy a semi down here in ED. Did'nt think East Dulwich was posh then but we do feel its turning into a bit of a clone town with a kind of bland homogonised character. To that end we miss the unique character of our former North London idyll...:-$

When we first moved in there were lots of foxs in and out of the garden digging up plants and leaving poo by the back door. An old friend from South Africa made a trap thing which, over the course of two weeks caught three foxs and a couple cubs which we buried in a pit at the back of the garden. Since then, no problem with foxs. Also works on cats.:))

We heard through an estate agent aquaintance a developer had put in an offer to Southwark Council to convert the site into "luxery apartments" with a couple of shops on the site... Gilcrest Constrution I think they were called. The council have dragged thier heels on the school as they really want the revenue the apartments will bring. Thats what we heard anyway. ;-)
