  1. Agreed 100% also. We went through an epic trauma getting a tree removed in Forest Hill and were then made to go through our insurance by the council for the repairs. Ended in complete misery--raised premiums, difficulty switching insurers, and all for a few very minor cracks! It's changed a lot over the past fifteen years, from what I can gather, because the previous owners of our house had a much more serious problem with the same tree, but they managed to get their insurance to force the council to pay...
  2. Super easy to use the end of one's poo bag to lift the lid, and then you can just drop it in by letting lid and bag go! That's my method, anyway!
  3. I have now done this. For anyone else in this situation, if there is no injury and no photographic evidence of an actual traffic offence, when you try to fill out the online incident reporting form, it will effectively try to boot you off the system at the end. If you keep scrolling down the last page after that, however, there is a new form that you can fill out by pressing the blue 'start' button at the bottom. Also, I encourage everyone to contact your local crime liaison officer, if you have one, with reports of any incidents like this. I'm writing to Ellie Reeves today as well, and investing in a dashcam.
  4. This just happened to me at the roundabout at Underhill and Langton Rise. I approached the roundabout, indicating left to proceed onto Langton Rise as I approached. There was a moped coming to the roundabout on Underhill from the opposite direction, so I looked to see if he was indicating, which he wasn't, so looking once more, I began slowly to proceed left, at which point, he careened across the junction, then slowed well before nearing my car, but then just apparently deliberately continued on and crashed into my car door. He immediately began taking photos, all the while asserting that it was my fault. He tried to tell me that I didn't need to take photos, but of course I did. He said that he was fine (three times, including to a passing Deliveroo driver). We exchanged insurance information, and I drove home to report it immediately.
  5. Could we perhaps support our wonderful local businesses rather than looking for things to complain about? We're awfully lucky to have such a great green grocer--I am a regular customer and regularly find things there that I can't find anywhere else.
  6. I had the same experience yesterday with the more elderly of my two dogs. I said 'Off' in a loud voice to a small schnauzer who wouldn't leave my old girl alone, and the owner told me 'never to speak to her dog in that way again'. Really!
  7. It's always really hard at this time of year even with well-behaved dogs when so many picnic parties take over the few off-lead places that we have around Dulwich--especially in the lower field at the Horniman. My dogs often don't get any off-lead time during the day as a result. It would be great if those who manage our open spaces would put clearer signage in place in the summer.
  8. Just there this afternoon, and yes, they did have one
  9. Very vexing!
  10. Ha! It was a Dulwich mummy who parked for nearly three hours, who has blocked our drive before, and pretended not to have noticed that she’d parked across the drive. Really!
  11. As someone who would never even think to park across someone else's drive, I find it very trying that this person has not only done so, but is nowhere to be found, is out of earshot, and after over thirty minutes, still has not moved!! Very poor.
  12. Wow, that's possibly a bit of a harsh attitude for those whose children either do or don't eat depending on whether or not they have 'a few extra quid' in their pockets. This is the biggest problem with areas of privilege like Dulwich--affluent inhabitants vote for councillors who share their 'progressive' views, and then said councillors feel entitled to impose all kinds of legislation on their constituencies without any real thought for those who are less well off, less prone to feelings of entitlement, and who are generally disregarded by ruling élites. I speak as someone who is indeed incredibly fortunate, a lifelong progressive, and a passionate advocate of caring for our environment, but I am massively dismayed by the blithe authoritarianism of those who purport to share my values.
  13. Also SMBS on Lordship Lane--really good
  14. We had Daniel and team over to put in new flooring, to board our entire loft, and to rebuild our front steps and walkways. A great job all together, and Daniel is always really helpful, imaginative, and responsive. Highly recommended! 07552504190
  15. How utterly depressing. It's not really a suitable place for a care home facility, being on a major junction, and it's sad not to have the nice pub that once flourished there. Can't really get my head around the willingness to leave a hideously ugly eyesore in the middle of a really nice part of our neighbourhood (with the woods right across the road and the lovely church on the corner (albeit itself in need of some attention to the outbuildings). It would also be nice if Lewisham and Southwark got a grip on the rampant graffiti that seems suddenly to be everywhere. Gosh.
