  1. Snappy Snaps in Camberwell should also be opened. Very good
  2. Millymoo I used to chew liquorice... C/Guest1, congratulations... is your son 27 months now or will be first week of Feb? I will keep you posted if other people are interested. B
  3. Hello Mothercourage - and everyone else I know you asked me about Yoga when we met and then we never got anywhere with it, but I have been thinking of setting up a Saturday morning class at about 9.30/10. I currently teach pregnancy yoga on Monday evening 6.30, but an extra one would be good. Bear in mind that I live in Camberwell, very near the swimming pool/ The Green. Please get in touch if you are interested in either the current Mon eve class or a potential Sat morning class. I would love to attend on 25th but i finish teaching at 9.30 so realistically I doubt I will make it there before everyone else starts heading home... Maybe I will call Mothercourage to check if anyone is still there before I make the trip. If not, I hope to join next time. B
  4. I was swimming with my toddler in Peckham Pool 5-6 pm. Pool shut and let people out but not in. They let us out from back door so we would be closer to car, but car was blocked just outside on the main street because of rioters. We could not moved for ten minutes and I was terrified for my little one in the back as youth was walking past with stones, etc. Finally two policemen noticed the 5 blocked cars and managed to move bus out of the way. Got as far as the pharmacy (ABC?) at the big traffic lights when we had to veer off towards Goose Green because of the burning bus on the main road. Some kids with metal chairs smashed a car just two cars ahead of me, which had slowed down to let some pedestrains through. Finally got home going via Dogkennel Hill... Boy safe in bed now, but what the hell is going on?!
  5. Polly (hi, btw have not seen you in ages) and everyone else. Thank you so much for your comments. Very sweet of you to try and make me feel better about it and see the positive side. I know it's a great offer. And I will accept because I don't want him to change nursery, as there will already be a big change in his life (new baby) and we will move out of the country at some stage in the next couple of years. I actually don't find the days too long (well, of course i do sometime) But he is with me alone only Mon/Tue/Wed and we have a lot of fun on those days. I know things will change when the baby comes and i will be grateful for the time when he is at nursery. But at the moment, I still simply don't want him to go every day. So I wonder if anyone actually knows what the consequences of him staying at home that one day a week are? Any nursery nurse out there maybe? Thank you
  6. To clarify: 1. this is the nursery he has been attending since he has been 2 1/2 for 2 days a week, which i paid for - although initially he only did half day. So I am keen to keep him in the same place as he has developed friendships and is familiar with both staff and the place. 2. it is not attached to the school 3. it doesn't offer half days anymore. Apparently Southwark has some extra money this year and has asked some nurseries to offer full time places. I appreciate that some mums would die for a f/t place, but I wouldn't and have no choice. This is not school, so there isn't an educational programme. And surely spending time with mum and sibling also has intrisic value... thank you for your comments.
  7. Hello everyone I have a question for those more experienced in these matters. My son has been offered a place at a nursery from January after his 3rd birthday mid December. The place is full time 9.15-3.15 and it would be free - new Southwark policy apparently. I am delighted but also concerned. I feel he is too young to go every day 6 hours a day to nursery. I know many children do that at 6 months, but that's how I feel so please go along with this. This is also because in December he will have a sibling. And I feel he will need time with the new baby to bond and time with me so that he doesn't feel pushed away and replaced within a month of the new arrival. So I have suggested to the nursery that I keep him at home one day a week, but they said I can't because he would figure as absent. I am personally shocked. Nursery is not compulsory and certainly it is my choice how often I want him to go. Plus, as a mother, if i want to spend time with my son, surely i should be able to? So I am asking what could be a solution and what's the worst that could happen if he is absent one day a week? Thank you
  8. Thank you EDmummy. The site comes up with lots of school but I don't know whether i am in their catchment area or not. Having read a previous link, it looks like this is impossible for a private individual to find out. Only the LA can tell you... Is that correct?
  9. Hello there my son is almost 3 and I guess I should be starting thinking about schools... right? (I m still not sure how it works!) Anyway, do you have any good or bad experience of schools in Camberwell you would like to share? We live near the swimming pool so I guess Brunswick, Dog Kennel and Lyndhurst are the closest but happy to hear about others. Thank you very much.
  10. Hi there I am a mum on the forum, expecting my second baby. I am actually due in December, so that's clearly not the reason for writing on the Autumn Babies Club. But I thought I'd mention that I am teaching pregnancy and postnatal (mum and baby) yoga classes in Camberwell. See details below. If anyone is interested in getting together to know each other and also do a session, I am really happy to try and accomodate a day and time that suits you. I am mostly free on Thursdays and Fridays during the day. In the evenings, I could do most evenings at 6/6.30 but later only on Mon, Wed and Friday. Or Saturday morning. Otherwise current classes are PREGNANCY Tuesday 18.15-19.15 + Friday 18- 19 + Saturday 9.30-10.30 / POSTNATAL Thursday 11-12 am. Let me know. Pregnancy classes are designed to keep you fit, mobile and energised so that you feel more comfortable within your skin while your body undergoes an amazing transformation. With active exercises we keep the body strong and supple to facilitate labour and aid recovery after birth and we relieve minor ailments common during pregnancy. We also work on the breath to connect you with your growing bump, aid relaxation, give you confidence to relieve pain, facilitate delivery during labour and nurture your emotional well-being. Postnatal classes focus mainly on the needs of new mums who don't have many opportunities to look after themselves. So, while there might be songs and movements for little ones, we will concentrate on postnatal recovery by rebalancing your body, replenishing your energies, and working on those areas that undergo particular strain during pregnancy, labour and looking after a newborn - 'feeding hunch', back pain, etc. Breathing and relaxation nurture you and help you ride the roller-coaster of mothering which is equally full of love, fun and joy as it is demanding, tiring, and emotional. Yoga provides a positive approach to the prevention and management of these emotions, enabling you to respond with more confidence and grace to the physical and emotional demands of mothering as well as to help you feel more in harmony and at peace. I offer these classes at home, so they are small with a maximum of 6 participants. This allows me, as a teacher, to offer more dedicated attention and guidance to each student, and offers students a comfortable and safe environment where to share this most wonderful experience of pregnancy and motherhood with each other, thus creating a supportive community. At the end of each session, we spend a few minutes having tea and chatting, unless you need to rush off somewhere. Classes are held in Camberwell, very near the swimming pool and cost ?7. Because of the limited number of places, please contact me in advance if you want to attend. For more information, please visit my website www.barbaramella.com Telephone number 0794 1045004 Email barbaramella@hotmail.com

Let me know. Pregnancy classes are designed to keep you fit, mobile and energised so that you feel more comfortable within your skin while your body undergoes an amazing transformation. 13. Yes, it was lovely meeting you and the little ones in the park this morning. If there are other winter baby mums out there who already have a 2 1/2 + (ish), please PM me with your email address. Anna, enjoy your break and see you when you are back. B
  14. Hello busymum, littlemissindulgence and crystal7 (I guess i know you but don't recognise your name) I am happy to meet in the afternoons, which tend to be a bit of a dull affair... too late to go anywhere exciting, everything has happened already and there is not much time before dinner. Otherwise our mornings are normally quite busy except for Tuesdays. Let me know what suit you. Bee
  15. that's a great idea! and i would def be interested but only, sadly, if there are kids that are a bit older than 8 months otherwise my active 2 1/2 yo toddler would be bored off his head... what sort of ages do you have?
  16. would the adventure playground not be built on the existing crappy one? if it tool over the grassy open space, then as much as i would like my charge to play while i read or natter... i agree with urbangardener and hookey. it's true: goose green and lucas gardens are sooo close. and wg is a great place to run around or meander in. and to be enjoyed by everyone with or without kids.
  17. Elly you can borrow mine if you are still stuck. Send me a private email for n and address. B
  18. Hello Anna - Wed morning would be good. I normally go to Goose Green playground from 9.30/10 till about 11 (when my son has swim classes) if weather is good. If not, we could meet somewhere inside. Anyone else can meet up? LillyD - I am hoping to go to work in a orphanage in Kenya like I did last year - well, work and beach!, teaching yoga to the children there. But obviously it depends on the pregnancy. BTW - I am teaching pregnancy yoga in Camberwell at the moment if anyone is interested. Speak soon.
  19. Hello nice to hear from everyone and congratulations. I agree with Sru that the support I got during my first pregnancy, birth and beyong from other new mothers was invaluable and a life saver - literally. So I wonder whether anyone expecting their second is interested in meeting up - and anyone expecting their first of course, but I suspect it will be a very different experince for you. I am aware meeting up will probably require a huge amount of coordination between holidays and toddler times, etc. But let's see if we can manage. Toddler times: we can meet Mon, Tue and Wed. Mon and Wed i normally take my son to Dulwich Pool from 11 till 1, then home, so before 11 is good. Tue we are normally free all morning. Afternoons tend to be a late affair as he still naps often waking up as late as 4.30/5... Holidays: We are in London during the week until end of August, then away for 2 1/2 weeks, then in London for a month and then away for 6/7/8 weeks coming back mid November. I hope that makes sense and we can find a time suitable to everyone. Have a good sat night! B
  20. Hello there I have just joined the discussion so apologies if this question has already been asked... but is anyone due with their SECOND baby in the winter? I have a son who will be 3 on 16th December, the exact due date of the new baby... spooky. Thank you

  23. I am visiting a friend in Clapham Junction tomorrow and I need to find something to do for my very active toddler too... any suggestions? I thought myabe I would find a playground in the common, but not sure where exactly. Thank you
  24. Hello there I spent a few weeks in India last year with my then just one year old. Everywhere is very child friendly and people helpful. I found accomodation as I went along although didn't really do as much travelling as I did pre-child... Funny that. Have a good time wherever you decide to go!
  25. is this for babies only or for toddlers too? thanks
