  1. But what exactly is "normal for Norfolk", numbers? The statement/question seems to be the original paradox!! I love their rivalry with their East Anglia neighbours, what is it they say " go across the county border and you feel like you will Suffolk-ate but you can't Norfolk-ate". Bit like the time honoured quiz team names - Norfolk 'n' 'ope -and- Suffolk 'n' wot.
  2. Here's the antithesis of the title. Took Mrs adonirum shopping at the weekend, we were after some rice, decided on Tilda Basmati (2kg size) but there was no price ticket on the shelf. There were prices for 1kg and 500g. Asking the till manager what the price was, who then looked at the shelf, she said she didn't know. Mrs adonirum made an off the cuff remark "why are you selling products without a price". This appeared to "strike-a-nerve" and back came the reply "you can have it for one pound". Mrs adonirum agreed and picked up two!! That's ?15/16 normal retail price for a couple of quid!! However, this was Tesco in King's Lynn, so perhaps better customer service/care out in the back of beyond.
  3. Thread descends into chaos....again. Reading it, it's like...well... IT'S LIKE TORTURE (*copyright - Louisa *)
  4. Sue I'm sure we still haven't seen the depths some in society would stoop to, so, yep, regreattably, believe it all.

  6. Louisa, I'm currently using an old C & A coat and, all these years later, it's still as warm as ever. Having said that, it's only because mrs.adonirum, when informed yes you can throw out my old green coat, accidently threw away my slightly more expensive Brook Taverner one !!!!(well, I'm told it was an accident)
  7. Louisa, when you state "must follow a similar route to Primark", do you mean they must now get their customers to throw the clothes/merchandise onto the floor after looking at them/it ?
  8. Only Louisa hauled in, then. Anticipating the "equally endearing story", A M
  9. Stop it, A M !! The Devil casts his net, what what !!

KK, don't believe the hype regarding conspiracy theories. Even the phrase "conspiracy theory" was concocted by half a dozen blokes in grey suits sat in a darkened room.
  11. Loz, your waste charge seems quite reasonable. My experience, of having a meter with Anglia Water, was a waste charge of 90% of usage. The other 10% was "allowed" as drinking water, although I always felt that even most of that would go back as wastage!! I had assumed that the 90% figure was an industry norm.
  12. Wilko's is the "upmarket" Poundstretcher,DtR, so perfect for ED and Penge.(I take it your question was serious and you were not being facetious). They established themselves all around East Anglia and the East Midlands initially, then came south. Probably everyone knows that "Wilko's" is a rebranding of their original name "Wilkinson's". Their H.Q. in Nottingham is on the edge of Sherwood Forest, a mass of concrete and metal emerging from the trees. True environmental vandalism.
  13. Louisa That's it!!!thanks, just couldn't bring it to mind. I noticed when I was there at the back end of last year that the old Police station was being developed, just like the one in Crystal Palace Road in ED. Perhaps ED and Penge are intrinsically linked !! You can, after all, go to L.L. and get the "one...seven...six...to.....Penge".

Louisa /anybody, am trying to remember, what was the name of the furniture shop that is now an Aldi/Lidl supermarket?
  15. Just a "heads-up" regarding a T.V. documentary to be broadcast this Wednesday 27th @ 22.45hrs on BBC1 "Children saved from the Nazis: a hero's story" It is the story of Nicholas Winton. The title says it all.
  16. Much to the relieve of Parkdrive, Status Quo call it a day.

  18. Get It On - T Rex
  19. Bit of a variation on a theme and for a bit of light relief, who would you have over for Xmas lunch off of the forum? I realise quite a few posters have met through Curry Club, drinks, DHFC, buying and selling etc and don't know if this has been done before, but choose three, giving your reasons, first one relatively serious and the other two not quite so. Oh, and please be nice and jocular....... Otta. Appears to be a level-headed, intelligent and well read individual able to contribute constructively to most subjects. It would be fascinating to spend time in his company. Louisa. To save time steaming a Xmas pud, I could serve up the remnants of that 1970's Arctic Roll from the bottom of the freezer from Iceland (well, Bejam's then). Parkdrive. Instead of listening to Slade, Wizard and Aled Jones, I could dig out my Quo back catalogue as a musical interlude between courses.
  20. Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick - Ian Dury and the Blockheads
  21. Annual resurrection .......let's be happy out there. What do you get if you cross an apple with a nun? A computer that'll never go down on you (resurrected from the late 90's)
  22. So that's agreed then, Otta, morons they indeed are.(whether serious or trolling). I wonder how all the patients in St. Francis and Dulwich hospitals all those years ago used to feel about the terribly intrusive sustained never-ending noise emanating from the stadium hour after hour, day after day, week in, week out. Oh, but then again.........

And your point is.........?
  24. You are probably right there, Jah Lush. Have been up St. James's area and came back on the 176 bus from Trafalgar Square. People shouting on their phones (more than usual) others suddenly realising they have arrived at their stop and falling down the stairs, some attempting, yes that's attempting, to eat their gourmet meal of McDonald's burgers, Jesus Christ, all low-life is here. Boys as men!! Am back there tomorrow, think I might go to Victoria and try the 185, you never know your luck, but then again........
  25. *Bob* Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Seems a bit unfair to Karen Carpenter.. She could > actually sing in tune. Can't argue with that *Bob*, perhaps the silkiest wonderful voice ever recorded? Maybe, I say just maybe, eclipsed by Adele?(accepted different style of singing)? Louisa, genuinely wasn't aware of lots of media reporting on this, but I can't agree with you that she seems a healthy weight, not compared to how she appeared (physically) in the past. How long before she starts wearing Boleros and the like to cover her Clavicle and Scapula regions? Now that really would be an indication, don't you think?
