  1. Now I have looked again I can see that the link I mentioned was obviously from you so sorry to direct you back to your own work!!!!! In my thread, the time period I was referring to was circa 68-70 when I went to St. John's and St. Clements Primary School in North Cross Road and we used to go and see "the man with the guitars on his wall". That school, as I somewhat cynically alluded to,has gone the way of so much of ED and is now also flats, with one on the market for circa One Million. Its beyond all comprehension really. Court Lane, Frank Dixon Close, Alleyn Park Road, they used to be the roads with the million pound properties (and deservedly so) when I was a boy (oh dear all our yesterdays, Tom Browns schooldays etc etc!!). Incidentally, I thought Francis lived in Mayo Road (linking Perry Vale with Sydenham ) before moving to where he is now but perhaps this was after/before Lowther Hill. Also, when they separated/divorced. Jean used to visit her sister I believe it was in CPR quite frequently, in the then newly built block of flats between Whately and North Cross and are on the opposite side of CPR to the medical centre. Bygone days Johnnyboy, bygone days!!!
  2. Johnnyboy Might be of interest to you to go to a thread I started entitled"Does anyone know who I mean" and a post by Steveo containing a link. Also, one of the Mr. Vero's was the francise holder of Gordon's of Dulwich, the Ford Main Dealership on the other side of East Dulwich Road jct with CPR where I bought my first brand new car, a Ford Capri 2.8i. Shameful that I was once a little bit of a boy racer!!!!!! Of course, like most of the old East Dulwich, this site now contains blocks of flats.
  3. Sorry bit tired and slow today didn't see there was a second page to this thread and the correct answer already given.Must get off this and get some fresh air !!!!

R U a Quo fan? How about Michael Caine as answer to your poser.
  5. Bit disapponted with this thread, thought it would receive more guesses and certainly receive a lot more witty and funny replies (look at the thread "location location location in ED "). Where have all the "sharp" folks of ED gone? Anyway, the prize for humour would go to AcedOut if the joke had been written properly, you should have started it - Hugh - so, close but no cigar. Well done Steveo for being correct. Just trying to show that famous ED residents past and present doesn't just extend to Jo Brand and James Nesbitt!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. I wonder if anyone knows who I am referring to, probably older residents of ED will. Will reveal answer in about a week (sooner if load of responses). A while back in time, won't say how long as it would narrow down answers, a musician lived on L.L.above the Co-op supermarket, now occupied by three estate agents. He had his guitars hanging on the wall and used to walk his great dane dog up Northcross Road to buy his fruit and veg from Mum's stall, and also used to eat frequently in the Indian restaurant on the same road. He went on to be very successful and now lives in a multi-million pound house, so it just goes to show, from little acorns etc etc.
  7. I knew that cos I went there and so did my father who was mates with him, hence the interest in this post. I remember my old art teacher, who was only about 200 yrs old at the time and whose name escapes me for the moment, constantly telling me stories about what they got up to, all denied by my father !!!! I wonder if EDOldie went there too?
  8. Been asked by someone who knows me to explain my first post which they thought was starnge. Michael Caine starred in a film in the mid 80's called Mona Lisa ( yes the explanation is that simple) with Bob Hoskins, it was a gangster type film. Of possible interest might be the fact that some scenes were filmed at the community centre next to Dulwich medical centre, fronting Daryl Road and backing onto CPR. Of great co-incidence, at that time Brenda Blethyn lived nearby in CPR, and went on to star in a film with Michael Caine called "Little Voices" (I think that was it's title), also starring Jane Horrocks. To para-phrase, I wonder how many people know that!!!!
  9. Further further update....When leaving the restaurant he also said that as it was the end of the full moon cycle he had to make tracks before daylight is lost and the dark night rises........Last one I promise!!!!!!
  10. Further update.... was seen running from a restaurant on L.L. not happy with the waiter service and heard to shout "stop chucking those bloody (asparagus) spears........ I could do this all evening but gonna try and resist!!!!!!!!
  11. Actually just heard he was negotiating the "Lordship Lane Pass" on his way to meet Danny in the remote kingdom of west dulwichstan in order to be proclaimed king
  12. Maybe he was avoiding Lisa, after all she is a mona......
