ljrodgers, have said this before on a similar thread. The best thing to do is "kidnap" the dog, put it in your garden, then see how they like it .......

Councils have the powers to enforce the cutting back of hedges ie: obstructing the highway, but there is an elongated process that they have to follow. They have to send a letter to the householder (which, believe it or not, must be addressed to the occupier and not an actual name they hold against the address) giving them xxx time period in which to comply, followed by a reminder, again with xxx time period as before. They can eventually carry out the works themselves and charge this to, and recover from, a named person whom they have identified, through enquiries, as living there and not against "the occupier". Due to data protection, they are not allowed to cross-reference with council tax records for a private household, but can do so with their own housing stock as this (overgrown vegetation) could be seen as a breach of the tenancy agreement. It's all madness that appears to favour the unsociable transgressors, but there we have it, due process and all that.

A freedom pass, Sue. Get out of here, you don't look old enough to have left university. -
Will ED pubs be showing the royal wedding? (Lounged)
adonirum replied to staplemeg's topic in The Lounge
RH, you're quite right regarding "ability, desire, work ethic" etc, but that is surely to do with equality of opportunity, which I wholeheartedly endorse, rather than actual bona fide equality. Most have to obey and there are those that decide/ tell us what to obey (laws) and thereby it necessarily follows some are ruling and others are submitting. If society did not work in this way, then surely there would be anarchy and no society? (Setting aside what Thatcher said!!). -

RH, you can never have true equality in society as it just does not work like that. You always have to have those that rule and teach and, likewise, you have to have those that learn, submit and obey. Simple, really. -

Unfortunately, redjam, it's not possible to hire a chainsaw these days without the appropriate certificates, but you could buy an "Aldi Sunday Special" for about ?60 or so. I have had one and although nowhere near as good as my Stihl, it will do the job for you.

Roadworks top of Lordship Lane
adonirum replied to Penguinpost's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Just to stray off-topic momentarily, if you think that's bad, you need to experience the chaos all around Victoria, Buckingham Palace, the parks, down to Whitehall, etc, due to this Commonwealth Heads of Government event. Roads not just closed to traffic but also pedestrians, compounded by stewards employed with absolutely no knowledge of London streets and therefore unable to inform you of alternative routes. Been such a nightmare this past three days that I'm seriously thinking of giving it a miss today. It's on until next Tuesday apparently. Should be even greater fun when combined with the Marathon this Sunday!! -

Well I have to say, bravo to the Guardian for finally identifying publicly their, shall we call it, demographic. Listen to the ITV news article regarding the tributes and tearing down of same. You can hear "do you realise who the family are" being said to the neighbour removing the tributes. Those of us who actually know and have experience through dealings with the traveller community, will recognise this as an oft spouted veiled threat to intimidate anyone who challenges their behaviour.

Dog Barking Non-stop in Garden
adonirum replied to juicypips666's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
juicypips666, when you locate the dog, have you considered taking it and placing it in your own garden to see how the owners like it barking all the time? -

Starting a reply with "Well, you know", when you've asked somebody a question. No, I don't know, that's why I asked you!!!!

DF stated that "Fellbrigg, Ulverscroft, Nutfield and Archdale were once sought after". This is absolute nonsense. Back in the day, Shawbury, Hansler and Bawdale (off of Fellbrigg) were the roads in that immediate area that were sought after because of the different housing stock on those roads, although I accept that today anywhere and everywhere is sought after. You'll be telling us next, DF, that, back in the day, Frogley, Spurling and Crawthew weren't the slum roads!!!

It's the same everywhere with the Royal Mail. This not being in East Dulwich, I posted a letter using the recorded letter service for something that was important and at a cost of ?1.74. It never arrived, I sent it (a copy) again using normal post, which did duly arrive. Regarding the missing recorded letter, to this day if I type in the barcode number on the website, it informs me that "Congratulations, your letter is progressing through our system", and the date it was posted.........15th November 2016!!!

Yep, totally agree with you there, Sue. Whenever anyone uses a phrase like that..to be quite honest with you...to be honest... I always reply with "does that mean you have been less than candid up to now" (especially if it is in a formal setting). Always throws people off their stride, some even get argumentative and aggressive!!!!
