Secondary Schools for people living on Underhill
savage replied to Gloves's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Harris boys & girls would be an option as well as St. Thomas the apostle (boys school). Kingsdale is always worth a try as it?s lottery. You could also try Harris Crystal Palace which is also a lottery, but quite a slim chance as they only offer a small percentage of places to children who live more than 2 miles away -

Recommending Plumber - Hunter Heating Solutions
savage replied to HunterHtingSolutions's topic in Reviews
Hunter heating solutions have just finished installing a new boiler, some new radiators & smart thermostats in my house. They provided a quote within a few days of visiting, started the job on time each day & were professional throughout. I can not recommend highly enough. -
Hi Wildcherry, My son was number 100 within his band last year on offer day & was offered a place on the second day of school starting. Between offer day & the start of the summer holidays he moved up the list by about 20 places. By the middle of the holidays he was around 50. Kingsdale wrote to everybody on the list in August asking if we wanted to remain. Once the results of the mailing were confirmed, my son was at number 7 (day before school started) & the rest is history. I know that each year is different, but I think you will have a very good chance of getting in. Good luck!

Secondary School Places - South LL
savage replied to Champagne Supernova's topic in The Family Room Discussion
1.4km doesn't sound right to me, knowing the positions of people that have & haven't been offered a place, it's more like 1km. -
I am a parent at Heber & I know that the majority were given the new Charter. The catchment seems to extend to the junction of Rodwell/ Heber Road junction with Crystal Palace road all the way back to Barry road & underhill. There were a few Harris boys & girls around the Upland Road area (close to Peckham Rye Park) & a bit further up Crystal Palace Road. The old Charter extended to Melbourne grove & colwell, but didn't quite extend to some parts of Dovercourt.

It looks as if George introduced himself to the new craft shop on Lordship lane! https://m.facebook.com/125867324107056/photos/a.1074820765878369.1073741828.125867324107056/1420022158024893/?type=3&source=48

Charter School East - consultations
savage replied to @Woodwarde's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
James, Just to clarify, the NHS will not be handing over the remainder of the land until 2019 (main hospital), is that correct? Will there be a guarantee/ contract in place to ensure that this is the latest it will happen? 2019 is bad enough, but I'm also concerned how achievable that date is bearing in mind how incredibly slowly the NHS move! Consultation for the Charter School East Dulwich
savage replied to littlek1cker's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Simon, I just read that you will only be taking 120 pupils in the first years intake, rather than 240 proposed. I guess this is because the temporary site is not large enough to accommodate more? Can you tell me if this is the final figure, or whether this might increase? Also, do you expect a reduced number of pupils in the second year also? Kate -
I am the originator of this post, not Harris. I have simply asked the question & have also put it to Harris ED. I can assure you that they have no desire to use the Rye, as they are more than happy with the sports facilities they already make use of. When I received that response from them, I really couldn't understand it. Why would they be happy to spend part of their lessons transporting the kids to & from a sports facility, when they have perfectly good sports fields opposite? I'm now learning why! I cannot believe some people's views on here towards a school using the playing fields opposite. I'm guessing that they do not want to rock the apple cart. I think this is a huge shame.

Hi Simon, Has charter exchanged on the land in question yet, or any idea on how much land you've been granted? Also, can you let us know if you've found a temporary site & where it will be? Thanks -

Nodal point remains at Jarvis road, as a significant majority agreed with this as the admission policy on the survey and the board didn't see any reason to change it. They felt that there was no significant difference in need in the surrounding communities. -
Thanks James for filling us in, that really is ludicrous! Do you think there is a possibility of changing it though as it formed part of the planning process? I will definitely be writing to Peter John to raise this. Kate

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
savage replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi James, I have started a thread in the family room about Harris boys ED using the Rye. Any chance you could pop over and explain the history behind them not being able to use it? I'm really interested to know if there is some way to change this? Thanks Kate
