Is Dulwich Wood very wet today?
Zaardvark replied to Zaardvark's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Thanks, folks - yes the woods are looking great and not muddy at all. Now if only they would put a proper pedestrian crossing at the A205/Lordship crossing. -
Hi - we are thinking of going for an afternoon walk through the wood - but how wet is it at the moment? Has it dried up? Z

As a walker and a cyclist - it is not true that 90% of cyclists skip lights. There are junctions where it is more common but the majority do not skip lights. It does seem you cannot win as a cyclist - when cycling with my son on the road you get drivers honking at you to get off the road, if you get on the pavement then drivers shout "wankers" at you. More kindness would go a long way on all sides. These (LTNs) are government policies, at a time when pollution is high/we are realising the damage it does, the need to reduce CO2 levels, and during a period of time when we are switching to electric and then self-driving (and possibly fewer) personal vehicles. Are we going to have 20-30 years of these conversations, or are we going to start to realise that we are complaining about the tide going out?

Hi, I frequently cycle and walk on the Greendale cycle path in the evening and have noticed a big increase in the number of police cars and vans looking for people and dealing with incidents. Does someone know the backstory to this? I am wondering if it is safe at nighttime now. Thanks Z

Repost from Harriet Harman on Twitter: Help find Petra Srncova, aged 32. She?s not been seen since 28th Nov. She?s a nursing assistant in @EvelinaLondon Children?s Hospital. Anyone who has seen her or has information pls call police on 101 quoting ref 21MIS037753 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Link to tweet and pic:

Yes and imagine how bad it would be if there were no LTNs - people are afraid to get on public transport, prefer cars and we would be in an even worse scenario without LTNs. We are in a pandemic and sometimes people's choices (solo travel by car) will be to the detriment of the many. However, the car registrations could be an ULEZ phenomenon also? Are people buying new cars for that, and are yet to sell their old cars? ULEZ versus another dense area of the SE without ULEZ would be interesting to look at. Z.

The hot air for the winter is probably quite useful for weather like today also....

Advice on moving into Steen Way near Greendale
Zaardvark replied to Zaardvark's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Thanks - the issue is that we have lots of furniture. Green dale parking would be great but is fully occupied on the 5 or 6 times I have checked. Yes, there are bays further down East Dulwich grove. However, our moving company would like to park closer. Otherwise, we will have to pay more, which is looking likely, I suppose! Siousxiesue - yes good idea, I will contact the local councilor. Thanks. -
Hello We are moving to Steen Way (where Green Dale/East Dulwich Grove meet) in late June. We need to park a moving truck and move wardrobes. The council tell me there are no bays that could be suspended and there are bollards at either end of the pedestrianised street/lane. Some of the bollards look as if they are removable but I cannot find who to ask. Can anyone who has moved in or out of there recently give us advice? Or do we just face a difficult move? (We have a lot of furniture.) Thanks Z

Cafe in Peckham Rye goes cashless
Zaardvark replied to siousxiesue's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Afraid so. Going cashless is the future (i.e. visit Stockholm) and all smartphones have the capability to be used like cards also. If they were burgled/robbed then you have to understand. I am surprised to read the negativity in the comments and "I seldom carry credit cards at all and NEVER at night." is true to form for DulwichFox (i.e is not true and is to provoke). -
Denmark Hill station entrance shambles
Zaardvark replied to Ginster's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Isn't the best solution to this, for now, to turn the coffee shop back into an entrance? I know it is close to the main ticket office but I am guessing the passage from the coffee shop entrance to the ticket office could be blocked so as to force foot traffic to go in both directions? Z -
A friend who is visiting was just about to leave (at 6pm) but then told us they had left their car in the carpark at Dulwich Park. The front gates are locked now. Is there any number to call to get someone to unlock the gate to rescue their car? (We have looked online but all the numbers ring out.) Best Z

Not even buses pay attention to it - and they are monitored by TFL - it is ridiculous - they should either enforce it or get rid of it as it increases danger not decreases it

New Playground - Dulwich Park
Zaardvark replied to Earl Aelfheah's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Well - also what is the idea behind the new long low (climbing?) wall in the playground? Kids walk along the top but have to jump down (more or less safely given the height at the far end) and cannot pass each other easily if going in opposite directions on top. It seems to me not such a great revamp, e.g. compare it with the playground in Brockwell park. Z -
Spotted on twitter: Driving past Dulwich Hospital and witnessed a man break in using metal cutters and about ten traveler caravans go in #bigfatgipsyeastdulwich from @ellen_godwin

New Playground - Dulwich Park
Zaardvark replied to Earl Aelfheah's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Or why the temporary fencing is still up but children are playing on the new equipment? -
Yes that junction is a goddamned disaster in safety terms. You basically have to wait for a driver to wave you to cross and even then people can turn into the junction suddenly (indicating late or not at all).

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
Zaardvark replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yes - it is a nightmare crossing there with kids. -
Yes - it has been postponed and there will be a better opt-out process.

MMR and Autism- whats your opinion...
Zaardvark replied to malwinka11's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi It is hard to begin on exactly all that is bad with the antivaccine movment but this post summarises on one woman "Leaving the Anti-Vaccine Movement" http://www.voicesforvaccines.org/leaving-the-anti-vaccine-movement/ The attached image really sums it up: the immune system gets 3% of the immune system insults with full vaccinations versus what an unvaccinated child will get. What was most shocking was the reaction of her friends: "The fallout from changing my views was pretty extreme. Within two weeks of ?coming out? on Facebook about my new stance, I lost over 50 friends. People who had cheered me on and supported me through my home birth, who had told me countless times that I was an awesome mother and an inspiration, just dropped me like we?d never been friends at all. I was removed from groups and blocked by people I didn?t even know. I was accused of being brainwashed and told that my girls were going to get autism and have terrible reactions. It hurt." Best Z -
Hi - probably he will make a good fist of it. In terms of the leadership at the school, if they manage to get a good and active deputy to replace him in turn then things might even be better in the longer term, although change is something to be wary of. In terms of school applications, you should be aware of the impact of distance and the illusion of choice as distance tends to be the only selection thing unless you have a sen/statement or a sibling there. Try going to http://www.daftlogic.com/projects-google-maps-distance-calculator.htm to calculate your flat/house distance to the schools nearby and use this to see which areas you fall into at http://datacollator.blogspot.co.uk/2013/10/primary-schools-around-east-dulwich.html, which was created by trefford21 from the forum. 1 edit for grammar
