  1. I wonder if they like wallets because they're a bit like shoes - likely to be leather, smell of people maybe? We lost a few shoes from outside the back door, years ago, before we realised the fox had taken them and stopped leaving them outside! Also lost our dog's toy monkey :-(

    Purchase Masks?

Hi all, this is very interesting - https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/my-mask-protects-you-your-mask-protects-me/?utm_source=The+Goodlife+Centre+Newsletter&utm_campaign=35e702cf56-Try+Something+New+in+May_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_70d1aadb69-35e702cf56-323836049&mc_cid=35e702cf56&mc_eid=80cda4ad1c Stay safe! 3. ... just heard this is happening this afternoon. Please Tweet if you can - thanks! https://platform.organise.org.uk/campaigns/provide-an-emergency-minimum-wage-for-the-self-employed-and-freelancers-tweet?utm_source=&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=blast2020-03-24 Keep well, Jx
  4. I totally agree that dogs should be under control, and in the street any responsible owner will keep their dog on a lead. The problem is that in a park, when off the lead, a dog can suddenly run off, if the temptation is strong enough (e.g. food - see my previous post), or if it is being chased or has been frightened by something. These things do happen, and while there are some dogs who have perfect recall, and will always come back on command in any situation, there are some who - occasionally - just will not. In a situation like this, a dog can suddenly run away from the middle of the park, where it had been playing safely, and out of an open gate into the road. I have seen it happen on more than one occasion. Dogs can run very fast, and there are times when an owner can do nothing to stop it. It is these situations where keeping the gate closed would minimise the risk to others - drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
  5. Thanks KA and SE22cat. I'll contact her too.
  6. Thanks Spikey - that's really useful to know. I'm going to try to do this for the PRP gate. Just wondering if anyone else has contacted the council about the gates yet, or is thinking about doing so ... Could be more effective if lots of us raise it...
  7. Great news about Flo - hope she continues to recover well! I totally agree about the gate. Recently our dog ran out of it and across the road - luckily the two drivers were going slowly because of the lights so he - and they - were unharmed. I've seen other dogs do the same as well. Even the best behaved dog can sometimes run off - maybe if being chased, or if it sees / smells something across the road - in our case it's food and rubbish on the floor by the bins or on Piermont Green (he's a labrador!). And yes, I've seen children speeding down that path on foot or scooter, straight towards the busy road. It's a dangerous spot, and it would be good to keep the gate closed as is done in some other parks. Maybe a sign on the gate? It might cause inconvenience to some people, which of course would be a real shame. But I think preventing more accidents is more important. As far as I know there have been no fatalities yet - but there could be, and a horrible injury like poor Flo's is bad enough. There is a clear danger to dogs and children, and to drivers and cyclists in the road - and it could be prevented.
  8. Love and support from Upland Road as well :-)
  9. Just donated. Good luck with the campaign!
  10. SMBS and Health Matters are both good for vegan shopping. Good to hear Blue Brick now takes cards - we love them. Yummy food, friendly people.
  11. Some time today, someone threw a stone at our front window and shattered it (I found pieces of the stone). Luckily the shards haven't fallen out yet, but it's a security risk even so. Will have to pay a lot of money to get it replaced tomorrow - it's a big pane of glass :-( Just wondering if this is a one-off, or if there's been a spate of it in the area... We live near Piermont Road. J
  12. Yes, we get orange feet when we walk the dog in PR Park - we've been wondering why...
  13. Just signed - as have loads of others! Good luck! J
  14. Yes! see you there...

    elderly dog

I don't know if they do home stays, but it might be worth contacting 'Borrow My Doggy' to find out ... Good luck...
  16. We have very low pressure, on Upland Road...
  17. Hi, I've just written my objection to the proposed development on Southwark's planning pages. The right sort of development would be a welcome addition to this site. But I agree with many others that this proposal is not appropriate for the area. More affordable homes would be wonderful. More shops would not...
  18. I didn't know they were leaving - would have liked to go and say goodbye. So agree with previous comments about their helpfulness and efficiency - there was always a friendly, positive vibe in there. I wish them all good luck, wherever they're going next...
  19. Well I think that's the point, kford - repairs of holes in roads to make them safe should be an absolute priority. And the money spent on Piermont Green could/should have been used for that ...
  20. I totally agree. Not only is it unnecessary, it also spoils the character of Piermont Green. There is so much more important work that could have been done...
  21. We had this recommended to us, and have found it to work really well. Deters them, without harming them... Expensive but worth it. Has a money-back guarantee, as well... https://www.primrose.co.uk/highpowered-pest-device-rat-and-mouse-p-696.html?src=PB0200_badge

  23. Thanks everyone for your replies. I'm afraid it was a scam - she was back this evening (7.55pm). When I told her (politely but firmly) that my husband had no memory of sponsoring her, she looked surprised. I said goodbye and closed the door. Two minutes later there was a very loud knock on the door. I waited a moment, then went back. She'd upended all my flowerpots on the doorstep, and broken the plants, and gone. I'm going to report it to 101, as although it's not the worst crime in the world, these things are pretty unpleasant, and I hate to think of people - especially vulnerable people - being scammed. If she comes to your door, and you agree with me that it's a scam, it would be great if you'd consider phoning 101 (or do it online)- although I realise that in the scheme of things it's not going to be a priority for the police... Thanks!
  24. A young woman claiming to be raising money for the Red Cross knocked at our door yesterday evening (Monday 26 Feb. Upland Rd). She claimed my husband agreed some time ago to give her ?20 for a sponsored walk. I asked him later, and he has no memory of it - and says he wouldn't promise money on the doorstep anyway. I thought I recognised her from a year or two ago, when someone very similar came round with the same story, but saying she was raising money for a different charity - I don't remember which one. She said my husband had agreed to give her ?20 if she completed the walk. She showed me his name on a long list of names and addresses. As he wasn't in, and she seemed genuine and very sincere, I paid her. I was only suspicious when she came back some weeks later claiming she hadn't been paid and was collecting the last few payments. I said I had already paid her and wouldn't again - she seemed puzzled, but was very convincing so I couldn't be 100% sure it wasn't a genuine mistake. In any case, I didn't pay her again! Has anyone else had her knocking on their door? Description: maybe early 20s; black British; wearing a red tabard with Red Cross on; very friendly and genuine-seeming. I didn't ask for ID, as I was suspicious straight away and just wanted to finish the conversation - now I wish I had asked for ID, out of interest. I imagine both the tabard and any ID could be faked quite easily. She didn't claim to work for the Red Cross, just to be raising money for them, so I don't think there's any point in contacting the RC to ask if it's genuine. She could genuinely be a concerned member of the public - last time she said she belonged to a youth group who often raised money for charity. Without further verifiable details there's no way of proving anything. NB I like to give to charity, but I don't like being conned... Just thought I'd raise the issue in case anyone has any ideas? ...
