  1. Random question but does anyone know what an alternative to the dump is for printers and scanners that do not have Windows 10 drivers? I have a brand new Canon Pixma iP4500 and near perfect, still boxed CanoScan Lide 600F. Both of which Canon say they will not produce Windows 10 drivers for. It seems crazy to just take them to the dump when they work perfectly well. Any ideas for alternative uses gratefully received!!
  2. Taking a couple of meals prepared before you go (bolognese/ pasta sauce/ curry/ soup type stuff)can help. One meat based for the first day then maybe veggie). Frozen really solid they serve as an extra ice pack whilst they're defrosting. Then you can bung in a pan, cook some rice and pasta and have stress free edible food not prepared on a wobbly table in a field without the washing up!! Then if you end up with chips on the beach/ disposable bbq by the end of the week at least everyone's had some nutrients at some point...! Also although not very environmental, heavy duty paper or plastic plates/ bowls/ cups are GREAT for times you just can't face the trip to the washing up area!
  3. As a baby I was so travel sick I couldn't get down the road without being sick. It continued throughout my childhood. We tried EVERYTHING! Travel sickness tablets worked to some extent- some more effective than others. I never travelled anywhere till I was 11 without a bucket in the car! However we had a sudden revelation that was life changing. ALWAYS look at the horizon (or as close as possible). And NEVER look out of the side windows. Especially if you start to feel a bit queasy, it can stop it deteriorating into the plastic bag phase!! Apparently it's to do with inner ear balance or something?? It was like a switch being turned on. Suddenly car journeys became less traumatic for everyone... As an adult I still have become unwell enough to be sick on occasions when this wasn't possible. Obviously it's easier the bigger you get as you can sit in the front seat! In the back seat is often possible to peer round the head rest/ seat belt etc but it can take a bit of working out.
  4. Am asking a query on behalf of a friend. She received a letter at the end of September informing her that a very small (maybe 3/4 space) car park was going to be re tarmaced in 7 days. This 'car park' is permit only and serves a couple of hundred properties. No one especially uses it as all the local streets, including right outside her house, are free parking. Then she got a letter dated 3 days earlier informing her that there will be 'a moderate increase to your service charge to reflect this work' but 'I am unable to confirm what the increase to your bill will be at this time'. Is this allowed???? Is there any way to challenge it realistically or does she just have to pay whatever they demand without having any opportunity to challenge the works??
  5. Have you tried nail polish remover? That sometimes does the trick.
  6. Just in case you are still looking Poundworld (where WH smiths used to be) has sheets of stick on gems and sparkly heart/ star etc shape stickers today!
  7. I agree re the Lewisham Tiger/ Poundland/ Works combo. I got some great bits for a children's craft club a couple of weeks ago. However, when I went Tuesday last week to top up, they had run out of a lot of stuff. Unless they have restocked since then, I think you might be safer going to Hobbycraft in Charlton. It's more expensive but will def have stuff you can use... The other place that might be worth trying on the way is Toys R Us on the Old Kent Rd. Again more expensive but they do have stickers and bits!
  8. If you've got time to visit Decathlon at Surrey Quays they have a whole load of different types of sleeping mats and airbeds inflated as well as camping beds so you can see which one looks most comfortable/ practical to carry for you?
  9. Lee Oasis (leeoasis.org.uk) in Lewisham is great. They give stuff away to people with referrals e.g. when clients moving out of a hostel/ refuge into their own accommodation/ from health professionals etc. They alos have a baby project and give away high chairs, stair gates etc. Not sure if they collect from Southwark though?
  10. Hi. Exactly the same thing happened on my phone too- it just kept opening hundreds of new pages and I couldn't close the site. The same thing happened to me a few months ago on my tablet. I think it may have been a similar file format. Last time I was a bit concerned it was a virus or something. The only way I could stop it was to uninstall chrome. This time I didn't want to lose all my bookmarks etc so went into Chrome settings and used ' force stop'. It seemed to sort it. I think there must be a specific file format that Android Chrome can't process??!
  11. Hi if you can't find what you are looking for locally, then the Party Superstore is about 2 mins walk from Clapham Junction has an amazing selection of all things party related including foil and helium quality rubber balloons. http://www.partysuperstores.co.uk/page.php?n=22000000 As its only 20 mins on overground, as a non car driver I find it quicker to get to than some of the other nearer options! The Card Factory in Rye Lane also has helium balloons but am not sure whether they have plain ones. There is also a small selection in the cake/ party shop in the market near Rye Lane station?
  12. Thanks for reminding/ raising such an important issue. Been meaning to get on the register for ages but have never managed to get around to it! Can't make the event but have registered online.
  13. Have you tried the Southwark Young carers support group- they might be able to refer children they work with? http://www.actionforchildren.org.uk/our-services/projects/southwark-young-carers
