  1. That top tip should be posted on Southwark Council's website.
  2. I am not overly sentimental about foxes (having been brought up in semi rural Midlands) and agree that we all have a part to play in ensuring that there is nothing for them to scavenge. When I first read Hillcourtcouple's thread I thought the foxes went to the pit alive...! Reading the subsequent threads I hope that I was wrong about that. I agree something should be done - on page 23 of the attached document the question of what Southwark Council might do about foxes was raised. It also talks about the use of traps. http://www.southwark.gov.uk/Uploads/FILE_7084.pdf

  4. Dear DM, You're welcome - I'm hoping for a response from Hillcourtcouple soon and before I have to go out for the evening, the very thought (which I am trying to banish from my mind)of that story is enough to put one of one's food!
  5. Dear DM, I assume you are 'talking' to Hillcourtcouple and not questioning the story of Biltong? Both are not in the least pleasant! Surely the pit issue isn't legal??!
  6. I've just come back from South Africa and there is a lot of 'biltong' out there - dried bits of all sorts of animals, so perhaps it's a good thing that the fox family didn't suffer that fate! Although it is to horrible to think of them being put in a pit! Especially seeing what all that howling and wailing produces.
  7. Of course you could always get rid of the car! I have a driveway and no car...and I've just joined Streetcar for all those times when I occasionally use one. :)
  8. Maybe the sign could have two foxes holding up a garland of flowers over 'Welcome to East Dulwich'. What would be the flower of ED? (sorry this is going a bit off topic...)
  9. Sometime ago a sign appeared about a third of the way up Barry Road announcing that people were entering 'Dulwich'. Clearly this wasn't right and a short time later it disappeared. The signpost remains bare, but I have noticed Southwark has put up other signs in Camberwell and Peckham, very colourful they are too! Perhaps there's a dispute over boundaries? Perhaps ED is to become subsumed into SE21?? So where's the sign for ED???
  10. There is no doubting the quality produce and as much as I would like to I don't get in there enough to build the relationship with friendly chats. Yes, it must be a real pain to deal with arsey customers but isn't there something in attempting to deal with each customer as an individual for that few minutes that the transaction is conducted? That's not paranoria that's just having a sense that your custom might be valued even if one is not able to get in there mid morning, mid week.
  11. It's not that he's just grumpy it's the way that he appears to fix you with a stare of real derision! Not that it seems to have done any harm to his business...yet!
  12. Perhaps if the Parish Priest reads this he might be inclined to offer some holy water? Would that be more effective than one's own holy water I wonder? I have just come in and it is very, very cold, too cold one hopes for Mr and Mrs Fox to be waking the neighbourhood with their lovemaking!
  13. Just whiling (sp?) away some more time, I thought I'd try the search by mockney piers and the ED forum was on page 2 of the Google search with this: Re: Quiet room... - East Dulwich Forum*eases from one buttock to the other* *turns to John Inmans obit in the ... copy of Spectator, leans over oak table to Mikewbate, hands over Spectator, ... www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,6581,6788 - 54k - Cached - Similar pages Is there a time lag after an item has been posted and before a search gets recognised? (I have not idea what I'm talking about BTW, if that wasn't obvious!)
  14. I know that I came to this forum by searching on Google for some ED item that was unconnected to forums and I feel as though I haven't been able to leave since...it has become addictive. I have spent a high percentage of my day today browsing these pages at work and forumlating my response to my boss about my lack of productivity! I will need to Google for ED addiction therapists!
  15. Dear dulwichmum, Your comment about the book of 365 prayers reminds me of an early episode of Black Books where Bill Bailey accidentally swallows a little book of Calm and begain to exude calmness! Perhaps you might want to try swallowing the prayer book and see if you are overcome with acts of selflessness, that is if you want to of course? You would also now need to remove the kitty litter first! Chartwell
  16. For the first time in ages I heard the sound of foxes mating last night! This all comes rather spookily after my earlier post here. Is it possible that the modern fox family has internet access and read all these posts and wanted to let me know that my garden isn't entirely safe?!
  17. Chartwell

    a joke

What is the name of the most common owl in the UK? A tea-towel (a friend of mine asked me why it wasn't a hand towel or a bath towel, some things just don't require too deep a thought process!!) Why do birds fly south for winter? Because it's too far to walk! boom boom!
  18. I've been reading the ED forum from the sidelines (and it's great!) and the fox issue has encouraged me to put finger to keyboard. We had foxes causing lots of damage to our garden some time back, including eating newly planted bulbs! I certainly rued the day I cooed over the fox cubs in next doors garden! We invested in one of those boxes that emits a high pitched sound when it detects movement - intended to scare animal intruders away. It did not appear to have much effect. The only noticeable impact was when the speeding cars took two foxes out on Barry Road (ma and pa?) and the problem went away. So, fractionater perhaps you could encourage the fox to play on the road (a small patch of newly laid turf curb side?) or stick with the winning formula of pee in a bucket!
