  1. Talisman - With the amount of interest you've had on the EDF has the thought of advertising privately (i.e. on the EDF) occurred? I bet it would sell in a New York minute and you could bank the commission you would have paid to the estate agent. Just a thought...
  2. Tour: Yes please x2!
  3. Shame it's not on Lordship Lane...
  4. A pint - now we're talking Bob! I'll be at EDT tonight watching the Pom's get tonked by the Irish!
  5. Cllr Richard Thomas is fighting to keep ED classed as "Suburban". Mayor Ken wants it re-classified as "Urban". The impact of this would be the ability for developers to build 5-6 story structures in ED rather than the max 2-3 stories allowed now. There is a petition if you would like to support it: http://campaigns.libdems.org.uk/southwarkissuburban More info on Cllr Richard Thomas' Blog: http://cllrrthomas.wordpress.com/
  6. I can't see a specific petition however you can support the lobby group backing it by signig up to their web site: http://www.localworks.org/ AND Lobby your local councillor (who is very PRO the SCB going through) Richard Thomas: http://cllrrthomas.wordpress.com/
  7. *Bob* and Mark....is there any room there for me on the sidelines? You should sell tickets! This is one of those "Friday Funny's" posts isn't it? :))
  8. I'm with everyone on this - don't want them (Foxtons), but don't know how to stop them. Planning laws can only stop them based on class of use, but if they move into a premises already classed as they need it to be then there's nothing to stop them (on that basis). Really I think we need to be giving our support to the like of the Sustainable Communities Bill to provide locals with more choice as to how their local area develops and how local money is spent. 9. swiders Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > i hereby rename your country of birth "East > Australia" and you shall from this point forth be > called "EDEastAussie". Sounds like a fair > application of your theory to me? Swiders - The "West Island" has nothing on us folks from the mainland ;-) Try and think of it this way: If England was within the boundaries of Wales it surely wouldn't be called England would it. Surely the Welsh would want to called it Aberwwjjtteraflyyd or something Welsh wouldn't they? Anyway, I get the general consensus - Peckham Rye Park should stay as it is. A bit of healthy debate a wonderful thing though! :)
  10. ok I've removed the comment about house prices...my point was really about that fact that the park IS in ED, not Peckham so just wondered if it should be named accordingly.
  11. OK EDF'er, I was browsing around ED on Streetmap the other day to see if there was anything I hadn't yet discovered about our beloved ED. I ended up looking over Peckham Rye Park/Common and noticed something interesting; did you know that Peckham Rye Park (the nice part of the green) and Common are actually (mostly) within SE22? So why the crap name? Is it because it's named after the road (which is also in SE22) rather than the suburb? I know that Peckham Rye Common/Park has a bad perception with a lot of people, especially us ED snobs who would rather venture to Dulwich Park instead (if you like prams and dog poo). Personally I love Peckham Rye Park - it's a hidden treasure that not many people know about. They see the Common (the Peckham end of the green) and think it's all just a blank green for people to play footy on, but it's not. The Park is beautiful with a pond, private areas to picnic, lovely gardens, ducks and playgrounds. I wonder what everyone's thoughts would be on renaming Peckham Rye Park/Common to East Dulwich Park/Common ( http://www.foprp.org.uk/ blood begins to boil I'm sure)? I think it would improve the perception of the Park with ED'ers AND it would simply be aligning it to the suburb in which it actually IS - East Dulwich! So forumites - what do you think? Am I off my rocker or do I have a point? Check it out: http://streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=534750&y=174750&z=1&sv=534750,174750&st=4&ar=N&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf
  12. That's it - I DEMAND A REFUND (or at least a free beer at the next forum meet :)-D)
  13. The Grove was the first pub I visited in ED three years ago when I moved here. It was also at the time the first pub I'd been to outside of zone one that charged more than ?3 for a pint! It's still a rip off today (though other ED pubs are quickly catching up). On another note; I've been to a few countries now where smoking has been outlawed. In the really busy bars guess what you can smell instead of smoke??? Body odour! Nice. Please someone....light up!
  14. I heard the reason for no tube in ED is because tunelling under Cambersmell would disrupt the well under Denmark Hill (so that's where Camberwell it gets its name!). So really any tube extension would have to come around Cambersmell to get to us, leaving the Victoria line from Bixton maybe?
  15. Dulwich Garden Centre will be a McDonalds (or the like) within 3 years. I'll put money on it.
  16. I don't see the point in the Gatwick Express. Southern run trains to Gatwick from Victoria every 30 mins anyway. They take only two minutes longer than the GX (thanks to a stop at East Croydon) and cost 2/3 the price (approx ?9). Losing the GX to improve suburban services would not be a great loss to air travellers. They might even save some money on their fare! Airlines should go play with themselves. Let's beat them up. And while we're there why not ask for an extension to the Bakerloo, Victoria or Jubilee lines...all running to "Lordship Lane" station!
  17. OK so to get this one back on topic (you all belong in the Lounge!): 1) I'm a greeny (well, more than I'm not anyway) and like the thought of AG's movie and the awareness its provided to all of us ignorant humans about the state of the planet. However I have heard a lot of negative criticism of the movie in that the facts portrayed are very 'selective' and biased. I guess we should expect that to some degree however the film loses credibility if that's the case as it then poses the question of "what's in it for him?". All in all though it's doing some good for the world the desperately needs some people to start caring about it. 2) Southwark Council are selling Home composting kits for a tenner and wormery's for a fiver (+postage) to residents! - Now there's no excuse. Check it out: http://www.southwark.gov.uk/YourServices/environment/RecyclingPages/HomeComposting.html
  18. go to the Lounge!
  19. damn good cheese though. Better than ED Deli.
  20. As passionate as I am on this subject I don't know if I have the time and/or expertise to lead it. I'm certainly willing to try and get the ball rolling though. Watch this space and I'll try and organise a gathering to discuss.
  21. THIS JUST IN: An 'inside source' has confirmed to me that White Stuff indeed will be opening their doors in the old Walsh site. White Stuff are actually going to take two of the 3 shops over and sub-let the third to another company (potentially another small Clapham clothing store). The delays have been experienced because the building owner - you guessed it; Parkhill Properties - has tried to stop them taking all three Walsh stores over as they obviously have a wealthy client that wants to open their doors in the third site that White Stuff are going to sub let. White Stuff has now won this battle and will open their doors and retain the rights to sub-let the third store. Unfortunately because the fit out was delayed, the White Stuff fit out engine is now fitting out other stores throughout London so the ED White Stuff now won't be fitted out until late April, opening its doors in early May. So as we see this appears to be the second story I've heard in a month where Parkhill are not only buying properties up in LL, but are trying to bully their existing tennants into moving out of or forfeiting their already leased properties so that PHP can let them to clients willing to pay a premium (i.e. Starbucks etc). Savages...
  22. Is anyone going to tell us what it says? Just so you're aware - retailers should be physically securing their PDQ's or PED's (PIN Entry Device) to the counter so they can't easily be replaced. Be weary of any that aren't. Look for the acquirers logo on the device (usually Barclaycard or StreamLine) and any evidence of tampering.
  23. Just a though EDF'ers; are there any "fiscally fortunate" people amongst us that would be interested in getting some funds together to start buying up commercial property on LL? The aim of course would be to shut out the likes of certain well known developers from owning the whole street and leasing all of the premises to chain stores. We would aim to try to keep rent prices low so locals could still afford to trade there. If purchase prices didn't allow low rental prices at least we could give local traders first option to open their doors in the neighbourhood at a somewhat competitive rate.

I bet it will be easy to get a late license for this Lounge. Maybe we could have a lock in!
