My daughter also hated the pram, changed it over at 5 months even though she was much to small for it! I also found putting a sheepskin on the buggy made it much more comfortable for her.

Canvas and Cream. Named and shamed. Thanks for your responses, I would like to add that the other cafes in Forest Hill have all been very accommodating with my daughter-The Teapot, St Davids and From the Forest are all favourite haunts of mine (though usually with pincushionprincess in a carrier as they are all very small).

Little bit shocked, today I went with a couple of friends and our 3 babies to a cafe in Forest Hill. We ordered cake, coffee etc and I proceeded to feed my 11 month old some raisins I had bought with me (mainly to keep her occupied) my friend's son was eating a rice cake. The waitress came over and very politely said that in the future would we only feed our children food bought on the premises and showed us some shelves full of Ella's kitchen baby foods. I pointed out that my daughter doesn't eat purees and the waitress said any suggestions for baby suitable foods they could stock would be welcome. I think this is outrageous and I will not be going there again (which is a shame because it is a lovely place with lots of room). Has anyone else encountered this rule anywhere else?! Am I over-reacting?!

Ideas on how to spend first birthday?
pincushionqueen replied to kapaxiana's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Another vote for Battersea Zoo, much more manageable for young children then London Zoo. My daughter is 11months and took her to Gambados in Beckenham recently. It has an area for little ones with a ball pit and a carousel etc. -
About a year ago my ex partner bought a Premaxx Baby Sling from Soup Dragon, I thought it looked rather unsafe so it was never used and has been at the back of the cupboard ever since. I just googled it (in the hope of selling it) to find it IS unsafe and they were apparently recalled. I can't however find any details on the company to return it. Should I just bin it? I obviously can't sell it...

Lordship Lane bars about 7 years ago?
pincushionqueen replied to writerEm's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I loved Inside 72, it was small and quirky. Walls were drawn on and it had robots and other toys on the bar. It was tiny. I had some great nights in there... -
Chelsea College of Art-I went there (about 10 years ago) for foundation and degree courses in Fine Art and it was brilliant. I have popped in to look at their degree/MA shows almost every year since. I like the new building, next to Tate Britain, with everything under one roof. I think it is much better then when I was there- everything was in separate buildings miles away from each other!

The Paper Bag Princess is one of my favourites! Another vote for I Love You Blue Kangaroo and the Emily Brown stories. Eat Your Peas-Nick Sharratt&Kes Gray is also wonderful.

I have taught reception for a number of years. The "I'm not your friend anymore" phase seems to happen every year (mostly with the girls but occasionally with the boys). I think perhaps just have a quiet word with the teacher/nursery nurse and mention that she was very upset. He/she might be able to do some work on how we treat our friends/being kind to others etc. with the whole class. I have actually banned one class from using that particular phrase in the past though! Poor love, I hope she feels happier tomorrow...

amber necklaces for teethng
pincushionqueen replied to lucyA1308's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My daughter received one as a gift, I am quite skeptical but felt obliged to try it. She hasn't really suffered too badly with teething (she is 10 months and now has 8 teeth) although I seriously doubt the Amber necklace did anything-except look pretty. She won't be wearing it anymore that's for sure! -
Has anyone made cake pops?
pincushionqueen replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I made some snowmen and reindeer shaped ones at Christmas and they came out beautifully. Used the Lakeland cake pop maker along with Betty crocker chocolate mix, also bought a pack of lolly sticks and wrappers from Hobbycraft and they looked really professional! Good luck. -

genealogy and house history
pincushionqueen replied to dulwichgirl2's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I'm always complaining how small my flat is. I just looked it up on the 1911 census and discovered 10 people living in the property (described on census as a 4 room house) they would have had the whole house but that is still not very big! They managed to fit in a family of 8, an elderly boarder and a lodger. Perhaps I should stop moaning about lack of space. Had such fun researching, really recommend doing this! -

Will be you be affected by cuts to child benefit?
pincushionqueen replied to emc's topic in The Family Room Discussion
When I return to work from maternity leave and finally get the position I have been working towards for several years, I will lose my child benefit. Hardly an incentive to work harder. I'm a single mum too (gets violin out)...
