Interested to know what heritage buildings are going to be demolished? -

I have no idea, I wasn't there, and my comments were general not specific to yesterday. But yes, I imagine there were some tools throwing pointless abuse around. Could I please put a 'no' vote in for the Denmark Hill revamp? London Bridge - new platforms, same old problems
Tr? replied to BrandNewGuy's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We all sympathise with front line staff who are inundated with complaints, and I'm sure we all agree rudeness and aggressiveness are out of line. But surely ad hoc complaints to front line staff are a pretty decent barometer of what's ticking your customers off at any given time? And I'm sure these staff are given oodles of complaint handling training (it sounds like the woman above has executed this to perfection!). -

Abusing staff is way out of line but complaining to them is fine, even if it is an event outside their control. They are the front line so dealing with ad hoc complaints is part of their job. -
Agree with Mrs TP. Kids are smarter than we give them credit for and they're not going to base their world view on a cartoon about pigs (unless that's the only stimulus they're exposed to i.e. they're watching PP 24/7)). Lighten up y'all.

A ha, I think I've cracked your problem. You should not set your alarm for 4.25am. Not taking sides here but for the benefit of the 'hearers' I struggled with traffic noise outside by house for several months. At its worst I was sitting like a house cat in the window counting cars and using this decibel thingy on my iPhone to record noise. I searched noise reduction websites and went as far as asking an acoustic fence expert to comment on the possibility of installing 2 metre high acoustic fencing at the front of my house. I think it was his reaction when I mentioned the road I lived on that made me question whether I was listening for the noise rather than hearing it, if you get my drift. So I had an extra beer or two in the evening for a week running to help me let it go. It worked and now I wonder what I was thinking. fabfor Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > OK, here's a fair challenge for the aurally > challenged. > > Daytime > > 1. If you leave a note explaining your good reason attached to the bin and don't do it repeatedly, fine. If you're the person who reserves the space in front of their house every day on Frogley Road, you're selfish. Louisa your use of MY in capitals suggests to me you're creeping towards the latter type.

My old neighbours had the same problem, so they just used the actual loft space for the entry staircase, and built the extension over the outrigger. Still called it a loft conversion and seemingly no permission required, but to be honest it was a sun and light blocking monstrosity (even though it was effectively a third floor on the outrigger they had to dress it in roof tiles, etc to maintain the fiction it was a loft conversion).

I'm not on FB or Twitter, but can I ask why you look at (or have a feed from) someone who you clearly have no respect for? Are we sure it wasn't the building owners? -
Agree with 4 pounds, just assume the business is sh*t and don't use it. And then frequent or at least try any business that has the balls to engage on this forum, for good or bad.

Thanks a fish. But, I have to say that while I think the abuse is terrible it does not make me 'ashamed of my gender'. It would be a heavy burden to bear the shame of all the sh*t males do.

a fish, I trust your response was not directed at me?

Twitter does not reflect society. Thanks.

We need more of the above. Cue a few people bleating about vigilantes, not taking the law into your own hands, etc, but here a lady was mugged in broad daylight and the hero's response was reasonable and proportionate. I'm not suggesting people proactively patrol the streets or accost suspicious looking people, I'm saying that if you see someone getting mugged, you can take care of yourself, and you're up for it, do something. Just to add I don't think anything in particular is going on in ED (save the laser focus of the EDF on these incidents); the odd mugging is I'm afraid par for the course everywhere in London.

So anyway, I was stopped at a red light recently, no other road users in sight. The light turned green and I accelerated away, going straight ahead. At the next red light a cyclist yelled through the passenger window (across my pregnant wife) that I was a c*nt. I had no clue what he was on about. A quick think though suggested that as he tried to overtake me on the inside he had been squeezed by the slight bend in the road. This was confirmed by my wife who said she caught a glimpse of him as he came (almost) alongside. Now I hadn't checked my left mirror as I was going straight, not turning left. Not to say that I don't keep my eye out for cyclists, bikers, etc, I just hadn't in the 100 metres of this straight journey. So at the next red light (bad day for lights) I yelled at him to f*ck off across my pregnant wife (sorry love). Moral of the story: not sure, but he was in lycra...

'there was never any doubt that Bowie is a genius, but if there had been, this list should more than quiet any critics' Great, all I need to do is read these books and I'm quids in for Mensa. Some of them look pretty heavy going though so I hope uncomprehending skim reading still qualifies.

most expensive coffee spot? currently Le Chandelier...
Tr? replied to tinkerbell's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Sorry, you can't be 'outraged' if you knew the price and had your coffee regardless. You can only be gobsmacked, and then either walk out or have you coffee regardless and be disappointed with yourself. -
anyone had more than 3m side return extension??
Tr? replied to rafsta's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I've no issue with loft conversions, Jeremy. This is a loft conversion for the purposes of planning only. And yes, we're moving out of London. Thanks for asking. -

Tr? replied to rafsta's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Well we've sold up. The 'loft conversion' has most definitely had a detrimental impact on our light (and sunlight) as it is directly north. We've even got a yellow patch on our lawn where the sun used to shine but does no longer. If I get the chance I'll post pics for your review. -

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
Tr? replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi worldwiser, Note there is almost always a free park on Frogley Road (near the junction with Crawthew Grove). Just move the wheelie bins some selfish pr*ck always puts there. -

Tr? replied to rafsta's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Thanks LM, but I'm talking about the first floor window in the 'main' part of the house (in most ED houses this is the second bedroom). I'm not suing (or being sued if I decide the do the conversion), just mining the goldmine of info that is the EDF!
