I find it goes on in all council leisure centres that people book places the moment they become available on the app then cancel in the 3 or 4 hours before the reserved slot so as not to incur a pentalty fine.. Its annoying but thats what happens... I just keep checking my emails and the app and sure enough a places often open up the night or a few hours before.

New to the area - What's the best Chinese in East Dulwich??
NewWave replied to GC12's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yes TSE's are still going and really really good..I did'nt suggest them because I thought OP may be looking just in ED even though Tse is just over the 'border' been going there ages and its reliably good -
I've heard of one called Fox Angels https://www.foxangelsfoundation.org/

I've realised all retailers based in stations charge a premium-In my last job I had to travel to and from marylebone and I realised the drink I was buying in M&S there was up to 40p more expensive than Lordship Lane M&S-And The drink in question would be water or juice so thats up to a 20% mark-up. The maddest mark-up I experienced recently was when I was unfortunate enough to go to to Bicester Village with a friend who wanted a 'girls day out there' (OLD girls in our case).. We went to Pret a Manger for lunch and the Salad I usually get was £2 more expensive there..ditto all the sandwiches had a couple of quid slapped on them-I've never experienced those mark-ups at Pret's in stations only there.

good luck booking forest Hill, I've been trying to get in a fitness class there (I'm a member) for two weeks and they're all fully booked..I go on the waitlist by the time I've recieved an email to tell me a slot has become available its gone and sessions are all fully booked. really really depressing.

@selector73 Thanks! Because we want him to be treated by the vets that know him we will have to get to the New X branch because thats where the team are based until LL reopens. Thank you again 🙏
-
Thank you ! We Will find a way to get him to New X because We owe his life to the vets he sees at Lordship Lane branch and they know him (and us) and we prefer the continuity of care because he's an elderly rescue cat who gets extremely anxious even though he's been needing monthly bloods he just never gets used to going and it can be a lengthy process just getting the sample. Can you tell I'm as anxious about the whole thing as he is??😥

2 months! oh no!!! Our cat is due to be booked for blood test thre and he hates being in the car as much as he hates going to the vet.. It'll take us that much longer to get to New X from home. thats really unfortunate ☹️

Point taken..I go 3-4 times a week and have done every week for several years however £115 a month is still a lot of money for many people (myself included) for a 'non essential' One can if one wishes excersise by running or Cycling, swimming once in a while. Gym membership IS a luxury...
-
Yes..that may be the case but membership STARTING at £115 a month is still unafforable for many. Council gyms also have a large range of equipment and I had a PT at Dulwich leisure centre when I was in Full Time employment who was incredible and even kept in contact during lockdown giving me a program I could do at home and checking in weekly at no charge or personal gain for herself. I dont doubt that Fit For may be a good gym (Its been in situ long enough so must be doing something right) However the cost of membership means it is affordable for the few not the many. If I could afford that kind of fee I would rather get a train to Canary Wharf and go to Virgin active where theres a pool and incredible classes and facilities

I get very confused in Superdrug because they have a price listed underneath the product..and it turns out that is the price with 'Superdrug Card' which I dont have..I was recently made redundant so I've been very careful when spending and check price tags in a way I would'nt have donr whilst in FT employment.
-
agree Fit For is far from affordable at least for me. over 1k PA is a condisiderable outgoingWhen I was seeking a local gym some time ago I enquired there and once I heard how much membership started from I did'nt even bother to look round the gym

@Sue I don't know if she took over the pub..it does'nt ring any bells but I'm in contact with her so I'll try and remember to ask.

I have fond memories of Govinda's I used to go there back in the 90's (maybe earlier) for an affordable tasty lunch..I was wondering if its still around. Now I have to make a point of going there. Does anyone else remember a really affordable basement cafe run by the church in a street off of Golden Square? parallel to Regent Street? I also used to love the Vegetarian cafe on Neal Street in the basement (Neal Street Cafe?) and there was an inczredible inexpensive authentic Japanese resturant I use to go to with my Japanese friends (who introduced me to it) tucked away behind Long Acre where that brown brick modern building ('modern' I think it went up in the 90's!) now stands that fronts Long Acre and Neal Street..I think it was called Asakasa or something?
