  1. Wow, are we moving into an area snubbed by the 'real ED' people? :) We should definitely organise a street party or some drinks, it sounds like we 'inbetween' people should stick together!
  2. Hmm not sure we'd ever get one of those handed in to the RSPCA but you never know!! I'll keep my eyes open. Interesting to read about the allergies though, I've never known much about it. Thanks, Penguin.
  3. To be honest, if he's very allergic, you're unlikely to have much luck. The obvious choice is to go for short-haired cats rather than long-haired ones... but they all moult and that'll be the major issue. I wish I could help, we have so many cats that need homes! You are welcome to bring him over to see the cats I have and see if he starts sneezing! But otherwise, I'm afraid, thatthere's nothing else to do :(
  4. Hi, I foster for the RSPCA. We have 2 lovely 13 week old kittens at the moment, as well as several mums and kittens. Please give us a call and we can come and have a look at your house and advise you. Crystal Palace Road isn't too busy, and in London we'd never rehome any cat if we turned down everyone living on a road :) We always recommend you keep cats in for a while when you get them, let them know where the food and love is, then let them out. Most are pretty street-wise but, as always, accidents do happen. If it's something you're worried about and wouldn't be comfortable with then we do have 2 lovely indoor cats at the moment, but we would never recommend a kitten be kept indoors. Give Iris a call on 0208 670 4992 and she/Debbie (who lives in ED) can come out and do a housecheck. Alternatively, see our link for the cats we have: http://www.catchat.org/rspcalse/cgibin/prtoc.cgi
  5. Thank you so much to everyone! We have put a deposit down so fingers crossed it all goes through now and we'll be moving in on 1st August. We're all really excited! They've even agreed for me to continue fostering cats for the RSPCA, but there isn't a spare room so we won't be able to have more than 1 or 2 that are used to each other, but that'll be good anyway! I've never been to the Gowlett, what's it like? Is it really this good?!
  6. It does look lovely and the rooms are all good sizes with original fireplaces. I might just take a drive round at night. There will be 3 girls living there who will be walking back from the station and bus stop, sometimes at night (or every day in the dark during winter) so we are just concerned as our house is a 3 min walk now, and it'll be 10 mins this time. It's not snobbish, just that I don't know the area at all. It's here, for people who don't know: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&q=SE15+4JB&um=1&ie=UTF-8&split=0&gl=uk&ei=zE9TSu3UDMHRjAf0me2YCQ&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&ct=title&resnum=1
  7. Hi everyone, we found a house to rent on Keston Road, SE15. It seems really nice but it seems a bit cheap, plus it's been around for a while, which is odd at the moment. We're currently living on Derwent Grove and love it there and love living in East Dulwich. The area seemed fine when we went there but as it feels like a completely new area so I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the area around it (above Goose Green, off East Dulwich Road) or the road itself? We've had such a horrible time renting off Ludlow Thompson in the past 18 months that we're really nervous about moving and having a miserable time again. It's managed by the landlord and seems ok. Can anyone who lives around there (or on it would be great!!) could tell me what it's like at night, noise-wise, safety, walking to the station etc? Thanks!
  8. As an update, all the post boxes are 5:30pm unfortunately, even the one on the outside of the sorting office on Silvester Rd. However, they do pin point a 7:30pm box in Vauxhall.
  9. Thank you so much to everyone! I'm off to check it out and will post up here as soon as I find out the actual time.
  10. There's a post box on the sorting office wall that'll be that late do you think?
  11. Hi, I left something at home that desperately needs to be posted today (otherwise the postage I printed out will be invalid and a waste of money). Does anyone know of a post box in East Dulwich that does a last collection from 5:45-6:30??? If you could let me know what time it is and where then I can get there as soon as I get home! Thanks!!
  12. See this lady here http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?9,298289 her little black cat has been missing from Barry Rd for 3 days. Please give her a call
  13. Hi, I was talking to a friend about this recently and thought I'd have a see if anyone knows anything about this house? It's been boarded up and abandoned for ages and looks a bit worse for wear. I found these links on Southwark's website, the owners have been applying to knock it down and build a new house but it's been declined. However, they put new fencing up a couple of months ago. I'd hate for it to be knocked down, it looks like such a lovely house behind those trees. I know some owners drag it out until the property is in too bad a condition to keep standing, so they get to build after all. http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/vacant_property_at_the_corner_of http://planningonline.southwarksites.com/planningonline2/AcolNetCGI.exe?ACTION=UNWRAP&RIPNAME=Root.PgeResultDetail&TheSystemkey=9527406 Any ideas on what's happening to it?
  14. Yep, been off with it today, very hot, headache, sore tummy, sicky feeling, and throbbing painful eyes... feeling better after a day in bed with curtains drawn (and cat on my feet!). Got to go to work tomorrow as I'm a temp and every hour I count how much it's costing me!
  15. My old housemate did this once, came home pleased as punch about her vintage lace bedspread she'd picked up from outside a charity shop and didn't realise why we were so annoyed with her!
  16. My housemates and I just saw 2 fox cubs in our garden, they look in good shape, they sniffed around a lot and then went into the shed and haven't come out yet... I can only assume they're living in there, no adult in sight... Is it wrong to feed them?!
  17. Hi Sally, you'll love it here, it's a really lovely place to live. I moved from Norfolk about 2 years ago and love it here. I'm in my 20s and have never felt nervous walking around day or night. I get the train back at night and the buses too and have felt fine. You just need to take the same precautions you would anywhere - don't flash cash/mobiles/mp3 players etc around, don't get sp drunk you're at risk anywhere! Don't walk down unlit streets or use your mobile while walking - the police told me this when I was at uni. Apparently most people feel more comfortable walking alone at night and talking on their mobile, but it actually makes you less alert, you're showing your mobile phone, and you're less likely to hear someone coming up behind you. Also, get your keys out before you get to your house. I always read this forum and am astonished by how dangerous it makes East Dulwich feel sometimes! It's still London, but having moved from the country I was surprised by how safe it was, how happy I felt here. It's got a good feel about it, you'll like it
  18. We have loads of Goldcrests in our garden, they're tiny and so cute! They love one bush by our back kitchen door so it's easy to watch them. We did hang RSPB bird cakes in the trees a few months ago but came out a few days later to see the string chewed through and they had gone - squirrels I imagine. I guess it's summer now so we shouldn't feed the birds anyway now.
  19. I'd love to do this, it sounds great! Do you have to be from that street or can it be held on a street but different areas are allowed to join in? We're on Derwent Grove and friends on Melbourne Grove and Oxonian Street - we'd all be up for it. Apparently, according to the Big Lunch website, there's one happening on Colwell Road and off Melbourne Grove the other side too. But so far just 2 attendees... It's such a fantastic idea - they used to hold them for coronations etc. Who's in for my area? We can use the power of EDF to organise this!
  20. Hi, This is not related to East Dulwich but I figured it was worth asking! I came across a beautiful Art Nouveau building in Chelsea but cannot seem to find any more information about Art Nouveau buildings in London at all. There are Art Deco London books but no Art Nouveau. Does anyone know of any buildings I could go and see? It's a form of architecture that I'm really interested in. Thanks!
  21. Hi, does anyone know what time the park is shutting now, after the clocks went forward? I want to go after work tonight. thanks!
  22. They are appalling. The system of having to be called back by someone to see if you actually do need an appointment that day is ridiculous (especially as, sometimes I've called after 9pm and my 'appointment' for my call has been 3/4pm!), especially as it's been many a time that I've had to explain embarassing illnesses and symptoms on the train/bus, with a nurse who keeps saying 'I can't hear you', even though I gave this information to the desk when I called from the privacy of my home! Several times they've lost or claimed they never received letters from other doctors or hospitals. Even when I dropped one off by hand they said they hadn't got it. The receptionists are so rude as well! And has anyone ever seen a permanent doctor there? I see a different one every day who seems to be a temp...
  23. If it's a big parcel/just too big for the letterbox and doesn't need a signature they sometimes put it on the doorstep so I come home and my parcel is leaning up against the door in full view of the road... Amazon parcels have gone missing but luckily the majority are still there when I get home at 7 - thankfully people must be honest on our road...
  24. Hi, I found some prescription glasses on Lordship Lane on Wednesday, early in the morning, black frames. Let me know if they're yours. tarahcoonan@hotmail.com
