looking for perfect wedding photography slideshow music
TarahC replied to Philby's topic in The Lounge
Also remember that if you're using music for commercial use, which this very much is (the fact that it's for the clients personal viewing may mean you can get round it as long as you don't have it viewable by the public, such as on YouTube, Vimeo now and also your own website without a password) you need to licence it. There are lots of ways people try to get around this but they are cracking down and the photographers I know, as well as me, now don't risk it and use the following sites to get licensed music: http://www.triplescoopmusic.com https://www.musicbed.com/ -
Another good GP leaving Melbourne Grove Practice?
TarahC replied to Rach's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I left them after I was having pain in my side, obviously a kidney infection, I got an appointment after a phone consultation and waited 2 days. She took a test and gave me antibiotics, said the results would be back in 2 days to confirm and make sure I was on the right antibiotics. I rang back in 2 days, no results, rude receptionists as usual, rang back the next day, nothing. The day after I was rushed to hospital and spent the next 10 days there. Hilariously, 5 days after being discharged they called me to give me my text results (nearly 3 weeks later). They told me that it appeared I had a kidney infection and the antibiotics they'd given me could possibly make it worse so I needed to go in to get different ones. I was so shocked. I pointed out that it was weeks ago and in the meantime I'd dropped a letter in from the hospital confirming my hospital stay. This letter never made it into my medical records, they lost it. I spent ages trying to tell her I didn't need new antibiotics, she kept saying I should come in. I'm afraid I hung up in the end. They must have left the flag on the system because they called another 2 times to give me my test results after that! I tried to make a complaint but the receptionists refused to give me a form and I imagine my complaint letter never made it to anyone important! I moved to Dulwich Medical Practice on Crystal Palace Road and love them, you can get a same day appointment, they're not open as late but gone are the days of describing embarassing symptoms on the bus!! -
Ex council flats in ED- good investment?
TarahC replied to Jimmybob's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yes, I've heard the same stories. A lady I know bought a flat at the bottom of Lordship Lane (top of the hill) and had to raise ?30,000 to pay to replace all the windows - the costs were shared only between those who owned their flats. They took Southwark to court and the costs were reduced to ?16,000 each but she had to pay it. Shameful. I'd steer clear for that reason. She said she only realised after she looked into it that Southwark have done similar elsewhere. However, I can't find anything online I'm afraid. She was going through this over 2 years ago when I spoke to her about it. -
Hi, the police knocked on our door last night as a flat opposite us was apparently burgled sometime yesterday, they brazenly put a ladder up to the window. This was a flat at the station end of the road, by the shops. Unfortunately, even though my neighbours and I were all in we didn't. Did anyone see anything at all? Even if you think it looked legitimate, a window cleaner etc, please let the police know. Thanks

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
TarahC replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I live on Melbourne Grove, the station end. We are all very fed up with the road works down this road. We understand that the work needs to be done but it is the notification of it that has been a problem. Last night I came home to find traffic cones along the road, inbetween the cars and white spray paint on the road surface saying 'no parking 8/6' - this has given us 1 day notice. Luckily we weren't away for any reason but a few unlucky people are still parked there probably blissfully unaware that they should have moved. This happened with the pavement works in the winter as well (along with us all bring given parking tickets the day after the road works finished as they took away a little sign saying we could park with our wheels on the curb but didn't tell anyone - luckily enough people complained so the tickets were deleted) Surely some sort of notification could have been given earlier than less than 24hrs? I assume that it was not spur of the moment? Also, there is some confusion about the parking restrictions on Melbourne Grove by the shop and the closed back entrance to Dulwich Hospital - some people park there but no-one is really sure that we can (and it would help alot due to the bad condition the sides of my car are in from scrapes since the pavements were renewed and seem wider)Can you confirm whether you can park along those sides in the daytime? I believe there are also 2 doctor spaces. thanks -

I've just looked out of the window and seen the snow! It's settled everywhere, Melbourne Grove is completely white. Has anyone got the train/bus this morning? I've got to get to Liverpool Street, via London Bridge -

I got in fine this morning on the 08:15 to LB, buses were also running fine. I'd definitely say - watch out for the pavements! Last night I fell over and smacked my head pretty hard on the slope down from the platform at ED, it was sheer ice and everyone was going down holding onto the wire netting but it was still like ice skating. People were really lovely and helped me up but it was pretty painful. I did see a guy shovelling it this morning but last night no-one was there and it was pretty bad. Take care! -

Got the train from ED to LB and it was a few mins late but the 08:05 was delayed 30 mins. I'm now on 149 from LB and it's running well. My boyfriend got the 176 in and it was fine all the way into town. -
Does anyone know where exactly in Brockwell Park the fireworks are held? I'm going to follow the crowd but figured I'd ask first!

Piglet, the person who is in charge of the volunteers is Iris and she is on 0208 670 4992. Please give her a call if you feel my actions have been offensive and I'm sure she will be happy to speak to you as feedback is of course very important. I apologised via email to Admin as well. ADDED: And thank you to those above for your support and suggestions.
-
I apologise if I've offended anyone. It was just that in the past I have had no response from admin when I've replied to them, so did assume there would be no response this time. I had been asked to just post once a week, which I happily did so was upset that that then changed as well, especially if no-one had complained. The recession has hit really hard so there are double the amount of animals in this year. Everyone had been really supportive on here so I was upset that it seemed to come just from one person. I apologise if that isn't the case and I really didn't mean any harm. A Pets section, along with the family and property section, would be really useful and would keep everyone happy. We would then put one post up and update this one post instead, meaning that it doesn't block anything else or get in the way. This is where lost and found cats/dogs could go as well, keeping it clean and tidy. I am solely a volunteer, doing this in my lunchtimes and evenings and weekends, and cannot afford to advertise on their behalf, nor would they ever pass that unfortunately. As we have rehomed the majority of our cats to East Dulwich residents lately I would hate to lose that resource and am so grateful to everyone who has helped and supported us locally. I hope that, as Admin has already said, that a pets section will be considered the next time an update is made and of course understand that Admin, as volunteers just like me, work hard and do a good job.

Tabby cat run over on Barry Road
TarahC replied to PennyDreadful's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi, the vets estimate age by various things (eyes, skin etc) but generally by their teeth I believe. She's in the vets at the moment and they looking after her there. They are normally pretty accurate, give or take a few years I think. She is gorgeous, I've fallen in love with her! She doesn't seem that stray like as her fur is in good shape, and she is used to and loves peeople, although she is thin and her teeth are in a bad way. Old cats can often wander off and forget where they are, so it would be good to find her owner. -
Great, thank you everyone.

Hi, I volunteer for the RSPCA and admin are not happy abot us posting once a week with the various cats and kittens we have available. I was wondering about coming to a compromise and seeing if there was support for a Pets section on the forum, underneath General ED issues and Offered etc. This would be for lost and found cats (as who would look in the wanted section, which is where they're being placed?!), vet recommendations, dog walkers/cat sitters, and animal charities like us etc etc. Please let me know if you would support this idea so that we can continue to post our animals. This forum has helped us rehomed triple the number of cats than we normally do and we really don't want to lose it, especially as the RSPCA has had double the amount of animals this year due to the recession. Thank you in advance!

Tabby cat run over on Barry Road
TarahC replied to PennyDreadful's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We had a pretty little tabby cat brought in last week, found sleeping in someone's garden in Henslowe Road. She is a very sweet honey coloured tabby, no white markings, very friendly, we think she's about 15. I've attached a photo of her (currently named Willow by us and coming home to be looked after by me tonight) -
Allowed open fires in chimneys? Recommended chimney sweep?
TarahC replied to TarahC's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Thank you so much for these responses, it's been so useful!! We are only renting so cannot go for the stove option, but we'll get it swept and make a trip to get the proper fuel etc and look forward to the cold weather for a change!! -
Allowed open fires in chimneys? Recommended chimney sweep?
TarahC replied to TarahC's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Great, thank you everyone! We're only renting so we're going to have to stick to the fires. The landlord's given us permission to use them but I'm a bit worried about melting his fireplace now. We'll keep an eye on it. thanks for everyone's help! -
Hi, we're in East Dulwich by the station and we have heard that in some areas in London you're not allowed to have an open fire - someone we know in Richmond isn't allowed. I thought it was just zone 1 - does anyone know how we find out? Also, does anyone have a recommendation for a chimney sweep and any idea what it costs? Thanks!
-
Can you believe it? The landlord of our place now has emailed offering to let us stay! However, we emailed him 4 weeks ago and when he didn't reply we put down a deposit on the Keston Rd house - plus, everyone's been so lovely about Keston Rd that we're actually looking forward to moving there. However, it does mean that I have to give up fostering cats so if anyone can help with offering a foster home for any RSPCA cats that would be fantastic - I have 2 lovely ladies at the mmoment, Tuppence and Moley, black and white and fantastic. We also have Mousey, a gorgeous, long haired tortoiseshell and white 15yr old who we love to bits. Please let me know! thanks

Kittens to Cats in East Dulwich
TarahC replied to TimmyBaggins's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi, you could foster it first maybe and see how you go but you'd need a spare room to let them settle in and that would hopefully then contain any reation he might get to just that room. We have some mellow cats in at the moment, you'd need a younger one as they're more likely to adjust to the children and dog. Unfortunately I have no idea if any of them are good with dogs as none of them had dogs at the homes they came from. I'm at the vets tomorrow and they have a dog that roams around freely there so I'll have a chat with them and see which one has no problem with it. The 2 boy tabby kittens we have have no problem with anything, it's all interesting to them! And they may adjust. But unfortunately they did just get brought back as the son turned out to be allergic to them... It's worth giving Iris a call on 0208 670 4992 to discuss your options
