how to get to toodler world on public transport?
anna_r replied to sparkle's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Received a response back already. Nice to see they are taking opinions into account, however we already have activities on a Wednesday so this will not be much use to us. ---------------------------------------- Thank you for taking the time to email me. Toddler's world is for children six months to five years of age. As you know there is a huge difference in activity between the varied age ranges. I have had a few comments regarding the equipment of late, so I have decided to trial the following, The Wednesday session will now have more equipment for the older toddler. Will we still cater for the younger age group however; there will be more enthuses on the older toddler. We will review this after two sessions - any feedback you can give would be invaluable. The current set up should include trampoline equipment i.e. trampette and balance beam. I will complete a health check to ensure this is happening. The price for Toddler?s world is as followed, Member ?3.10 Non Member ?4.10 Kind Regards, Gary Ward -
I didn't find it too bad. Bit like a smear. They do internal exam and palpate uterus, insert speculum (like smear), put anaesthetic gel in, measure size of uterus using an instrument then insert IUD. Once the gels in you dont feel much. They offered me paracetamol after but I didn't need it and haven't had any more pain yet. I had an IUD rather than IUS because I didn't want any hormones (that's why I never took the pill) and the IUD can lead to heavier more painful periods (whereas the IUS often means lighter periods) but with my last IUD I never had problems.

Apparently some parents complained that the bigger equipment eg trampettes, beams etc were not safe (although in my opinion it should really be up to the parents to ensure their kids are using it safely). I've sent their service manager an email asking to bring it back as ?4.50 is a lot if they only put out skittles/soft cubes etc. The email address is [email protected] so might be worth dropping him an email if you want the bigger equipment back. -
They definitely don't fit them at the Gardens GP surgery - although I can have 4 week checkup there. Thank goodness don't have to go back to camberwell clinic!!

Yes that seemed to be part of the problem Cora. There is a long list stuck up next to the receptionists of people who should be prioritised including under 16s, people obviously pregnant, sex workers and a lot more. And obviously mine was a very low priority situation. It gives a false sense of the waiting time as the ticket number really doesn't mean much. Townley road clinic closed last year.

Thanks Molly - good to know for the future (although yes, theoretically now sorted for 10 years!!) A bit late to be asking the question I guess but might help someone else :)

Sorry if this is too much information for some. Just spent a frustrating 4 hours at the Camberwell sexual health centre waiting to get an IUD. This apparently is the only place in the area to get one put in and you can not get an appointment. My GP sent me there. I arrived at 1:15 and was eventually seen at 5:05 after eventually bursting into tears saying that I needed to leave to get home and breastfeed my baby (true). After checking in using one of the computers I got my ticket with a number and was told to wait. None of the screens work to tell you how long the wait will be or how progress is being made. After two hours I went and restocked the car parking ticket up with another 3 hours. Upon enquiring at 4 (for the third time) where I was in the queue I was told I was next to see the doctor. Then waited another hour until the bursting into tears part. Apparently not all the doctors are trained to put IUDs in so they had to wait until more doctors arrived to work at 5pm (although I wasn't told this at first), and after making a fuss I was eventually seen by one of these doctors - who was absolutely lovely and all went smoothly. Eventually arrived home in very stressed mood to hungry baby (although she is on baby rice now so was somewhat soothed by that). I considered leaving after three hours but having waited that long (and having been told I was next to be seen) it felt like I needed to see it through and don't very option get a free afternoon to sort things like this out. Also somehow managed to avoid getting a parking ticket despite being late. Lying with feet in stirrups I had just accepted that the whole experience was going to cost me ?80 so that was a nice surprise. Not really sure what the point of posting this is except to vent and to find out if this was a typical experience, and also to find out if there are any other options for dealing with things like IUDs locally where you can actually make an appointment. I know the NHS is stretched and its only going to get worse and this is not an emergency etc etc. However surely it is not great to make access to contraception so difficult. We actually have private health insurance through my work but a) I would not consider this the type of thing you would need to go to Harley Street for and b) do not even know if you can do this sort of thing privately - do you need a referral in the normal way?

Or if you are going from Peckham rye area you can get 363. Take it all the way to the last stop then follow these instructions (thanks to sunbob in an earlier thread): Go down Anerley Hill (left at the South end of Crystal Palace Parade). Take the left fork to the leisure centre (no road name)take the right fork when the road splits and then the second road at the mini roundabout (2 small lanes very close together)walking down here you should then find yourself walking towards a car park and the leisure centre (just keep going till you see it, and hopefully some other people going the same way). Good luck, it's not as complicated as it sounds. -

We're going to toddler world on Monday this week. Taking my nanny as well to try and work out the public transport route so that she can do it regularly. -

Masses more tips here on getting your baby to take a bottle. http://www.babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=64926.0 A bit of an aside, we have tried a lot of these ideas and nothing has worked so far (and we haven't yet tried the cold turkey stopping all breastfeeding as an alternative and letting her go hungry). Instead I'm focusing on getting her to take the doidy cup (which she does pretty well, with a lot of help) and since she's now 6 months she is on baby rice which we make very runny and she seems to love eating off a spoon. At least I'll know she won't be starving when I got back to work in a month and I'm planning on continuing breastfeeding before/after work and at night. Nanny will need to work out some other way to get her all relaxed before afternoon nap since she can't have nice snuggly breastfeed!

The other day my husband asked my just two year old what mummy was doing and she answered with a sigh 'mummy's sorting'. Mummy spends a lot of time sorting. We just got her a toy kitchen with loads of toy food in crates which provides lots of opportunity for both mummy and daughter to do sorting. I also have separate boxes for toys in our expedit unit with tags saying things like 'instruments', 'small toys' (all those stocking filler type things which get everywhere) 'Lego' (of course) and 'balls and cars' which are currently combined due to lack of boxes although that is starting to bother me....

Thankyou for the advice and sympathy everyone. Yesterday I made sure I got plenty of time walking outside and did manage to fall asleep around 9.30 - only to be woken at 10 by baby. Infuriating! Then after second feed at 1:30am managed to fall asleep ok...only to be woken immediately by 2 year old (screaming - in her sleep - of all things, 'DADDY! BEEBIES!' repeatedly - which was ignored!! maybe shes watching a little too much tv if she's dreaming about it???!) However, did fall back to sleep ok and got a few hours between 2:30 and 6am. Definitely think the exercise outside helps. And hooray cold is gone so feeling better anyway. As ever, wishing everyone (including me) a good night x

My breastfed first daughter baby didn't sleep through til 10 months and my second is now 6 months and did it twice, by fluke I am sure, a few weeks ago but now we are back to 2-3 wake up average. I just consider it a good night if she goes back to sleep easily and isn't awake for several hours :) Second time around I am finding it a little easier as I know we will get there in the end, but I hate hearing about babies who sleep through from 6 weeks too. If you have a baby who is a good sleeper I think life as a new mum must be a pretty different experience...although then of course you might have a bad eater...or a grumpy non smiler...or a bad burper...babies are all so different! You have my sympathy though. I hate it when it feels like the sleep is getting worse when it should be getting better. And for the first couple of months you can survive partly on adrenaline and get good day naps since newborns tend to sleep more (if yours is a good day sleeper - my first was not, second is ok) but as time passes with no improvement it can be quite discouraging I know.

Hi everyone. Thanks for all the replies. Just to address the point about whether to ask whether we can take the children, the invite explicitly states 'Unfortunately, due to restrictions at the wedding venue, children are not able to attend'. Also the wedding starts at 7pm - which is right in the middle of our bedtime routine and would guarantee difficult behaviour from both 6 month old and toddler. And lastly, the couple are quite young, probably without many friends with kids, quite into socialising etc and I totally respect the fact that this is what they have chosen for their wedding - so I don't really think its appropriate to ask. We accepted on the basis of knowing all these facts and are now just trying to work out how to make it work! They are also not THAT close friends - we both worked closely with the guy for a number of years but don't really know the bride very well. Anyway will look into hotel sitters but will also discuss with nanny tomorrow expectations and whether she has done anything similar before. Thanks!

Resurrecting an old thread, not really sure what for other than sympathy :( currently suffering with severe insomnia. Last night lay in bed from 9pm and didn't get to sleep until past midnight, then daughter was up for first feed at 1am, then same again until second wake at 5am. I'm recovering from a nasty cold and still have a sore throat so that's partly it, but we've also just started weaning and we've also had several bad nights recently with daughter awake for several hours between 2 and 5. I think it's partly the culmination of 6 months nightwakings with only 2 sleep throughs ever. I think this is one of the hardest times in the marathon that is reaching the sleeping through stage. I've had the opportunity to nap during the day as we've had our inlaws staying and I haven't been able to nap either. I'm starting to get really down. Everyone is currently still sleeping (both daughters, inlaws, husband) and I've been awake since 6am.

I remember absolutely loving the adventure Enid Blyton series. The Ship is the best one :) I still remember it quite clearly!
