Try out Louise's story, published midday Tuesday on PECKHAM PODCAST, about her 5 year battle with Long Covid. This special edition of PECKHAM PODCAST comes with a live audience of local people and features a remarkable woman, Jo Berry. Jo is the daughter of former Conservative MP Sir Anthony Berry. She lost her father in an IRA bomb attack, aimed at Margaret Thatcher. That was in Brighton in 1984. Since then, Jo has been on the path of peace and reconciliation via her charity Building Bridges For Peace. The invited audience took to her and kept her for an hour's Q+A! So this edition is slightly longer than usual ... You could even send Jo across your networks ...

This is an extract from an edition with Dave Walker, mediator extraordinaire, born at the Elephant & Castle and still living in Southwark. One of his great achievements is training young people to be peer mediators ... who even step in to work with disputing adults! Just shows what can be achieved and who can achieve it. Pretty much anyone and everyone. Next week we publish a special edition with Jo Berry who has very powerful story to tell. Further more, there was an invited audience of local people young and old, with whom she engaged in open discussion for an hour. Insights galore!

Seasonal story on PECKHAM PODCAST with Nick the Pilgrim

PECKHAM PODCAST’s final edition for 2024 is with Nick Dunne, a man of Faith, a family man and former director of Bede House in Bermondsey. Nick is also a pilgrim having completed the Via Francigena, a huge undertaking. Whilst not as famous as the Camino Santiago de Compostela, it is enormously long! And turned Nick into an author too. Nick ran the settlement project Bede House for almost twenty years. Through the work of Community TV Trust I came to know Bede really well and loved it. Bede combined a youth project, a very successful unit that addressed domestic violence, and a third working with local learning-disabled adults. For this latter project, Bede was honoured in 2008 with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. In all respects this is a heart-warming hour. Today BBC carry a story on their website saying the Education system is broken. "Government statistics released on Thursday found that a growing number of parents have withdrawn their children from mainstream education in England. An estimated 111,700 children are being home-educated, a 20% rise since last year. Around 23% say their reasons are a result of lifestyle, philosophical or preferential choices, such as religious or cultural beliefs or a rejection of an exam-based education. 13% of families now say they made this decision because of school dissatisfaction, including special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and school bullying. 14% say it is due to their child's mental health. PECKHAM PODCAST recent guest Charlotte Prendergast who runs SYLA in Peckham to aid struggling Black boys is really worth catching.

One person said the following about the PECKHAM PODCAST series: "You seem to know and interview some extraordinary souls, uncovering their life stories, journeys and challenges they've faced along the way, which in turn helps us understand something more about the world we live in." Charlotte is definitely worth catching.

Of PECKHAM PODCAST's latest edition with Charlotte Prendergast, James said: "What a wonderful discussion about how a different school curriculum could change the world.
