  1. Lovely. I wonder who the lady in the apron was at the toll gate?
  2. The whiff of weed discovered in CPR, as reported in today's Standard: http://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/police-on-patrol-stumble-across-huge-dulwich-cannabis-factory-9059320.html
  3. Just delivered a card to a neighbour in HH and saw one on their postbox which I've attached. It seems they're (the stickers, not the neighbours) still out there a week before Christmas.
  4. There's definitely one in Carnegie Library on Herne Hill.
  5. I wouldn't dream of wearing earphones on a run. Nothing to do with the fear of crime but rather the fear of ending up on a bonnet - and more especially because I love the experience of being outside and actually hearing everything around me (wildlife etc.). And anyway, there's enough hurting as I go round so the idea of sore ears afterwards isn't what I need too. Try unplugged!
  6. I think the advice is to take all keys from locks and not to place within reach. Oh, and leaving keys on hall tables within a pole's reach of the letterbox is a bad idea too.
  7. Here's a sorry from another sympathetic resident, done over at 4.00am by persons unknown who entered via the back and came up our creaky stairs before realising we were in bed. We're still stressed about it years later. And slightly off target - but what is CPR? I'm guessing Crystal Palace Road.
  8. Peckford Place is in Brixton, not Stockwell: http://binged.it/1bfPIni
  9. Like'em or loathe'em, a cat is definitely the answer if you have mice. Only had one incidence since getting ours and the one that dared enter the house was sniffed out and removed by our mouser. Have it 'done' though.
  10. So the stickers are genuine, says the Standard! http://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/mystery-of-burglars-markers-unlocked-8953772.html
  11. The story says they're being used in Wandsworth so are you confirming they're now in Dulwich? Neighbourhood Watches and community police need to be told (if they don't know already). Watch out, folks.
  12. Sorry to hear about this Josephine. This absolutely does need reporting, regardless of whether you have the car/driver details - you would never know what medical complications might arise hours or days afterwards so an accident needs to be accounted for. If the time was noted there would be CCTV worth checking. As an occasional driver I wouldn't dream of leaving the scene without at the very least checking with the cyclist. And as a regular cyclist, I would hope that the operator of a vehicle would have the common decency to ask about my well-being. I read about the last fatality in Bow yesterday morning then cycled from HH to Wandsworth and back, and for the first time, felt very pleased to reach home again.
  13. Fascinating, thanks for posting this. I shall think of this incident every time I pass-by.
  14. "If the police did their job .." Yes, very unfair Unlurked. There are plenty of posts to this forum from people admitting they've left items of value in cars, in plain view or doors unlocked. Not saying this is a dominant factor but it doesn't help avoiding getting your stuff nicked.
  15. It's usually the Met's aircraft but I can't see any tweets that might be relevant to that time last night.
  16. We were living on the Norwood Road and largely slept through blissfully unaware of the 87 storm although I woke up at some stage to see a dustbin lid flying past the window. We were on the third floor ..
  17. More interesting is Ruby's own Comment piece in today's Guardian: http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/oct/22/great-british-bake-off-ruby-dandoh
  18. Equally, I'm disappointed that the last bakes were all so poor.
  19. It's amazing how some people take a huge dislike to each of the Bake Off players. Ruby because she's SO doe-eyed and plays her vulnerability to Paul; Kimberly because she's too clever and Francis because her creations are OTT and that she's batty anyway .. Personally, my money's on Kimberly. Rock solid, talented and probably coming to HH soon.
  20. We got a free Caxton Card which allows us to charge our account with Euros and can then use the card abroad, withdrawing for free whenever we need it. Much better than large amounts of cash or foreign card charges.
  21. We got a puncture in Lidl a few years ago. The wheel wouldn't come loose so I had to call out our breakdown service. When I eventually got the car off their property their camera picked us up exiting 90-minutes after their time limit. It took days of copying receipts for our shopping plus proof of the call-out to get the charge dropped and I have to say they were very thorough and persistent so good luck if you want to take them on.
  22. A few years ago we questioned our building insurers who had almost doubled our premium stating we were at risk from subsidence due firstly to 'earthworks'. I know there were allotments in the park during the war but that seemed ridiculous at the time but are these referring to the 0-10m bore holes shown in the area? Also, I see that this area is peppered with boreholes - some of which are black meaning (according to the key) these are 'confidential or restricted.' Can you explain why they're there and why they'd be restricted?
  23. This has always fascinated me as we live on the northern end of the escarpment and over the years we've been here, cycling and more latterly, running up and down the slopes has got me wondering the same thing. Without any true knowledge though, I would have personally thought it was a natural peak but are you suggesting that because of its height above the Thames valley, it might have been formed in antiquity? What about a Hill Fort? A lovely thought! And delighted to see the Myatts Fields market gardens still present, top left.
  24. It does have the whiff of local government conspiracy. That or Guy Ritchie's Man from U.N.C.L.E. being filmed.
  25. Now I'm starting to think we all dreamed the whole thing. A major incident (3 fire engines and 2 ambulances) and no-one knows anything? Maybe we passed through a time-warp!
