Feedback wanted from Heber parents .
EastDulwichSE22 replied to EastDulwichSE22's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks all for your feedback on here and via PM. It's interesting comparing notes as to what we all expect from the school and it seems we all have different expectations. It's a very mixed bag . -

It's not regarding homework . It's regarding communication between staff and parents regarding progression among other things and it's across the years. -

Just to clarify, it's not my intention to bad mouth the school , rather with the support of more parents we can perhaps get taken more seriously by the staff and work as a team to further enchance our children's learning . -
Hello there , my child is a pupil at Heber School which I believe has the potential to be a great school again , but currently I am hitting a brick wall with regards to communication between the school and parents . There seems to be very limited communication regarding the school as to the progress of my child , the work expected , and my support to maintain/enhance my child's learning . I find any concerns that I have is dismissed by the teachers and the head which only further continues to worry me . I appreciate that the staff have a stressful job and do not need inferring parents but they have been downgraded a grade by OFSTED for a reason and I see no evidence of the school remedying this reason. Other schools issue newsletters /website updates /record books in order to update the parents to what the topic is and what the expectation and outcomes are . Heber provides no such communication . I have just been given a work sheet with nothing to indicate what my child is supposed to do , how I am supposed to help or a book to record any learnings . My child hasn't shown me evidence of learning anything new either . I wanted to ask if other parents are currently happy with the communication between the school ? The progress and work their child has been given ? I naturally want to know that my child is going to leave school able to read and write properly but so far I am not impressed . Please PM if you do not wish to post publicly .

Harris Free School Primary on Hospital Site
EastDulwichSE22 replied to Lou's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Is it possible we could do a template letter or a petition to send to Mr Gove as suggested earlier by Littlek1cker's email from Peter John? -
So we need James to confirm in black and white if Harris is definitely intending to open a primary on the Dulwich hospital site ( to ensure Gove hasn't made an error in his letter ) and then take action to voice our concerns over this. Thank goodness we were alerted to this otherwise we would have been none the wiser.

New East Dulwich Primary School 161/80 + 102
EastDulwichSE22 replied to James Barber's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Great there is a new school , shame its a Harris school . -
Hi James, There is an old derelict former Chinese shop on the corner of Whately Road and Landcroft Road, it has been neglected for as long as I can remember. It's unsightly and I was wondering who it belongs to and if something can be done to make it into a useful specs instead of an abandoned take away ?

East Dulwich school place crisis update Is this email not displaying correctly? View it in your browser. New East Dulwich primary schools - update We have lots of good news. Permanent Site Agreed It has been confirmed first thing today that the former East Dulwich Police has been sold to the Education Finance Agency to form the permanent site for our new East Dulwich Harris free primary school. The land area is about the same size as Heber School and Goose Green School. This is brilliant news for local school places. With a permanent site for September 2015 it makes the opening of this school on a temporary site this Setepmber 2014 no longer a gamble for parents. As the school admissions for the first year runs in parallel to the main Southwakr admissions process parents have nothing to lose applying for both and then chosing which of the two places they wish to take up. I hope you apply for a place for you child. Second School Application An application for a second local Harris free primary school was awareded last week. It would open September 2015. It's aim is to fill the large primary school admissions gap around Homestall Road in SE22. So it's been titled Nunhead Harris free primary school. Our proposed target is that it will also be an outstanding school as per Ofsted and in the top 10% of primary schools for England & Wales both in terms of overall results and individual pupil progression. To meet these three objectives it would be in the top 5% of UK schools. Exactly the high aspirations we need locally for our children. Solving The Crisis - where are we? By September 2016 we'll have a shortage of 215-235 primary reception places in the Dulwich area. The already agreed first Harris Primary school for East Dulwich will provide 60 places, the Judith Kerr school that opened last September provides 25 based on distance, The new Dulwich Hamlet school would relieve around 30 places from Goose Green School. The Bessemer Grange extra class will add 30 places. Expanding Ivydale will help slightly in our area. But this still leaves circa 50-70 extra required spaces. Hence why the second Harris primary school agreed last week adding 60 places is so important. Work on its permanent site is ongoing. Questions With so much going on please do get in touch with any questions of concerns.
