Wasps nest by green dale path warning!
Ginster replied to Alexandra321's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Thanks - I have let Bessemer know (I'm a parent there) and hopefully they can tell JAGS as they own the field. -
Peckham Rye Playground - sand, equipment, repairs etc
Ginster replied to TreacleRabbit's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Renata - is it also possible to look at one of the little pools? The "plug" cannot be reached without getting wet when the pool is full - so at one point in the summer no one had done this and the pool was therefore full of green water! It did not look safe for kids. I noticed the other pool has the plug near the edge so it's easy to pull out. Unfortunate design fault on the other one! -
A general rant about lack of responsibility
Ginster replied to JL Dulwich's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I hear you - unfortunately happens way too often and seemingly more than it used to. I'm often wishing a parent would do more/step up and supervise or chastise their child. I even have my kids point things out or comment that someone has left litter. If I can teach mine these things I wish everyone else could be mindful. I have also had to get a parents attention when their child has hurt themselves! No problem with having a rant, I really hope your Mum is doing ok - truly horrible for her and you and I'm saddened the parent didn't even seem to notice let alone care!! -
We're just coming to the end of our time there as our youngest goes to school in September. We've probably been there for 3 years now with first then 2nd child. We've been pretty happy with it - much better now than say a year ago due to them finally sorting out management and staffing issues (previously a ridiculous amount of staff turnover). Kids enjoy it, food seems fine - decent garden (for a central nursery) and some trips out (library, Horniman, Aquarium). They do good internal events and celebrations (halloween, teddy bear picnic, hatching chicks). They also did the loveliest graduation (yeah I know, they're 4!) for those about to leave. Have a look around, talk to the management (mostly been there several years now).

Ginster replied to slarti b's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Just seen on new small bin it says garden waste. Obv can't fit much in but surely they can't refuse to take garden waste if in it? -

Brown bin collection - Council starting to charge?
Ginster replied to slarti b's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Sorry if asked already (long thread!) Got our 2 new brown bins today (small and tiny) does anyone know if food can go straight in or does it have to be in a compostable food waste bag? Thanks! -
Hi, I'm on the PTA (F@B "Friends at Bessemer") and as above yes there is a welcome picnic in a few weeks. You should get a pack from school soon with the invite. We also use a great app/site called Classlist which should help organising meet ups etc before school starts. See info in the pack also. Looking forward to meeting you. I have child number 2 joining so I'll be attending the picnic as mum and F@B!

We're very happy with Bessemer too. Child in Year 1 and a reception joiner starting in Sept. Did you go to an open day? That is what sold it to me. It felt right and so many London schools are tall and surrounded by concrete and this is low and spread out and surrounded by fields and nature (and it has its own nature garden)

We love our German Pronorm kitchen. Kitchen fitters went bust a few months later so we were lucky. Bear that in mind if you use a small company!

Barry Road paint markings everywhere
Ginster replied to dougiefreeman's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
They look similar to those on our pavements that were repaved last year. They were also repaving the Gardens not far away so I reckon Barry will be next? -

Buses diverting via Barry Rd so headed toward LL roundabout the first bus stop with any buses 185,176 is Dulwich Library -
As above it's much improved. I like the phone call back triage. Extra appointments available at Lister (annoying to get to and no parking but at least you usually get in same day.) I actually had my named "GP" Dr Gupta on my last appointment. First time in 14 years!

New M & S to open this Thursday 15 November
Ginster replied to derwentgrove's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Big queue, handing out bags and vouchers. I'll go back later to spend mine as queue up past Dominos! -
Hi parents, I've got just a couple of spaces left on my cooking demo this week on Friday 9th November showing what the amazing Thermomix can make. It's great when you have kids as it cooks your dinner for you with minimal intervention so you can play with the kids/put them to bed while it cooks! You will make (and then eat!) yummy food like sun dried tomato tear-and-share bread, asparagus and pea risotto and berry foam (an addictive whipped sorbet). See photos to tempt your tastebuds and email ginnymixer@gmail.com or DM in here if you want to come along! It's at my house on Ondine Road from 10.30am for max 2 hours (and you get lunch!) don't miss out.

Who's been using the forum for ten years or more?
Ginster replied to Robert Poste's Child's topic in The Lounge
10 years last month! Only 461 posts though. Love EDF for buying and selling, general gossip, finding out about issues and meeting future mums when I was preggo. Long live the EDF, just hopefully less confrontational like the last year or 2. -
Avoid the area. Dog unit just arrived so who knows what happened. Traffic being diverted up road opp The Bishop. Chaos leading to GG roundabout big queues. Police tape seems to be taping off the block where the co-op is so from junction with Living and Giving shop. Can't see where other side is blocked.

Random doorbell ringing in the dead of night
Ginster replied to raerae's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Per DulwichFox ours sometimes goes for no reason (and sometimes at night) we have to unplug and re plug in and hope frequency reset. Will eventually get around to replacing! -
Recommendations for camp sites in France?
Ginster replied to AnnieT's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Check out Glisten Camping. We flew to Biarritz and hired a car. You stay in a dome with (covered) outdoor kitchen. 3 pools, on site restaurant and good playground. Near St Jean de Luz and we also spent 2 nights in San Sebastian just over border in Spain which isn't far at all. Kids loved the dome. Might depend on kids ages as 2 of the beds are cool "hanging" beds suspended from ceiling! -
Deptford does have set times. See attached. We love it just wish was nearer. ?2.75 to get in is great just have to pay and display too if driving.

Moan alert: lack of boys' uniforms in Sainsbury's
Ginster replied to Ole's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I hope they respond. In general it always feels like more clothes in general for girls than boys there. Your picture really illustrates this! I'm sure one response will be that girls can wear skirts, trousers or dresses and boys just trousers (and shorts in summer) but your pic shows much more imbalance!
