alachlan replied to nico1's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip

or he has a convenient stolen mobile to handover

> It looks like it is actually open 23 hours and 59 minutes a day. Wonder what they do when it is closed for a minute? I think we should be told. A minute of silence for those who have sacrificed their time in the queue that day.

I hope it turns out well and they can get the lease on the old Thai Pavilion opposite - a full size Italian - that would be great! -

indeed they are - no more than 10 mins to wait either, pulled the bread into shape, toppings and a quick blast in the oven to get it to rise a little at the edges. best smelling and tasting pizza i've had for ages. -

The ED mummy who picked clean the pile outside the MIND shop
alachlan replied to snorky's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I can mostly agree with the act being theft, though since the shop hasn't taken possession of them does that make the clothes litter with intent?!! Either way it makes it no more acceptable to take them if you are poor or not. -

"It's not exactly theft, but you're showing yourself to be cheap and morally redundant - it's obvious the pile of stuff is intended for the charity shop." True but my point is that you can't discriminate betweeen someone poor or apparently not poor taking the stuff - either way your treatment should be the same. Why not think of it from the person's point of view taking this stuff. Do they feel less repugnant about themselves depending on how much money they have? They are either needy or not, or thieving or not. -

Who is to say she hadn't taken the stuff there earlier for the shop to have and left the wrong bag or something? "I will be honest though - anyone on a low income or with kids or suchlike whop picks through the stuff and uses it, I am not bothered about, whatever the legal side of it." And what is the relevance of someone's income as above - are you saying its okay to steal if you are poor? Apparently its not okay if you have a nice car and clothes, but fine if not? Get a grip. -
Dulwich and Sydenham Hill Golf Club
alachlan replied to phillyboy's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I looked into it a couple of years ago. I think the annual fee was about 1200, and you had to stump up this or double this to join in the first place, and there was a waiting list >12 months, and you needed to be introduced etc.. Nothing particularly unusual. -
I got asked to remove my hat (wool beenie thing where you can still see your entire face) by the bouncer the other day going into the Bishop on a freezing night. To add insult to injury they point blank refused to put the rear heaters on despite it being bloody cold outside and them having an excellent heater setup. What's the point having it???? The place was rammed, its not like you weren't making enough money to keep those who'd rather sit outside to drink and smoke warm - if anything we're likely to stay longer and drink more. *** RAGE ***

Indeed Bob - whether they are mentally ill and being taken advantage of by the other party is irrelevant here. The point is that they are preying on people's compassion in the first place and should be dealt with appropriately. If on the other hand she just has cash problems and is engaging in fraud there are facilities to help her, which we already fucking pay for. (just wanted to clarify the direction of my agreement)
-
So a question - what sort of mental illness drives one to work with an accomplice and create a cogent act to fool people into handing over cash. That sounds like a criminal to me, not a mentally ill person.

If you like vietnamese you should try buddha jazz up by denmark hill. It is excellent. And what about mr liu as another alternative...
-
About time too - they must have been losing money hand over fist for years - we tried to use them about three years ago and they were the most clueless sh.ts I've ever dealt with.

Perhaps next time she calls round someone shoudl take a picture of her and print it up / post on here and local trees. That's what I wish I'd done a couple of years ago when I gave her some money in return for a phone as "deposit"... wihch was obviously stolen.

Lordship lane post office - foreign currency
alachlan replied to Strawbs's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Horses for courses - its convenient using the hole in the wall but I don't like doing it on pricipal / bending over since my bank 1) gives a poor exchange rate 2) charges a 2.99% fee for taking out foreign currency on top 3) makes a further charge of ?2 or 1.5% overseas transaction fee, whichever is higher (capped at ?4.50) Just for getting at my cash, and then the ATM owner probably has a bite too If CityForex is the one at London Bridge Walk (next to Richer Sounds) then I agree that it probably has the best rates in London for major currencies. If you are taking out a decent amount you can usually get them down a few points as well. -
RE: Street Car (in East Dulwich) - is it any good?
alachlan replied to skip's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
A car wasn't there when I booked it and I called them up, they gave me nearly ?50 in free credit so I assume this is the same or less than they charge the non-returner. As someone else said, I wouldn't use it for a longer trip - it will end up more expensive, you get 30 miles a day included (and they pay the petrol if it needs filling using a special card inside the car) and after that I think its about 23p a mile (again inclusive of petrol). -

Not tried at those times of year but you could probabyl book far enough in advance to make sure. I've never had a problem getting a booking at one of the ones near the station. -

very good - at the moment they are offering ?1 off per hour at certain times too. maybe if you sign up you can use my name and then I think we both get some free credit. PM me if you want to do this. -
How do we know you're a sensible adult and not one of the c.nts that buys the things and gives/sells them on to the kids that do this stuff?
-
Thanks - I'll take boring over unloved and unappreciated every day.

I think you're right about those... but just to be clear, there are some stump things at East Dulwich station, on the ramp to the London Bridge platform!! Just not sure I see the point if they do put them in - they'll doubtless break and stop people getting on their train in the morning. Or maybe they are for Oyster card readers?
