Ideas for kids activities tomorrow
acb2013 replied to sanity girl's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Olympic pool in Stratford? Not free but standard leisure centre prices so nowhere near as expensive as attractions in town. And you can get the overground from Peckham then tube. Good luck! -
Hi Maria, brilliant to hear this happy ending! I was the lady with my 4 year old in tow trying to field the cub away from the road - foxes not everyone's favourite animal but I couldn't stand by without trying to stop him from being run over. Thanks to another lady in a white car who also pulled over to help. You & the van drivers did a brilliant job of scooping him up & taking him to safety (& online fame!)

My daughter was very happy there (she was there for a year & left 2.5 years ago). Lovely, caring staff and a nice balance between lots of play and building confidence & independence skills ready for starting reception. Plenty of fresh air with the verandah & garden. Do feel free to message me if you have any questions.

Crumbs Family Cookbook by Claire & Lucy Macdonald. I came across their blog first & then this book. It's brilliant. Delicious recipes & tonnes of time-saving tips.

Sorry to read this, it sounds horrific. Hope the little girl was OK. I see the thread elsewhere on the Forum has offered advice on reporting it, but thank you for posting in the family room too to raise awareness.

Hello there, do you mean for baby/children's clothes & equipment? If so there's already Baby & Children's Market (which I had a stall at once), Mum2mum and NCT sales in Dulwich, Honor Oak, Catford & others nearby. Not sure about Forest Hill though. I've also sold & bought lots of stuff on here and via the local parents' Facebook groups. So I'd probably say no need for any more - but then again there are a LOT of families in the area! Very best of luck if you go for it.

Gymnastics in the summer holidays
acb2013 replied to mybaby178's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I think Crystal Palace Sports Centre do. -
Hello, I'm sure parents with children starting reception will be in touch, but also there's a welcome picnic for new Goodrich reception and nursery families on 4th September. The date's been in the school newsletter and last year all new parents got a written invitation, so sure you'll get that too.

Where can I donate children's beds to?
acb2013 replied to verds's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I donated our cot bed to the Salvation Army baby bank in Camberwell - they are always in need of second hand baby & toddler equipment & clothes, which they pass on to local families in need. -
Soft Play Equipment/Bouncy Castle - any recommendations?
acb2013 replied to Crokes's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I hired soft play kit from Tippee Toes for a party last year & would recommend them. They do various combinations, depending on how big your space & it was all delivered & taken away in plenty of time. Great service. -
Can anyone recommend a women's health physio?
acb2013 replied to Sally81's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Yes, I would recommend Emma at EH Physio on Lordship Lane. -
Also very happy with First Steps and would definitely recommend them. They have made a wonderful effort with my initially very reserved toddler - she is now very happy & confident there & talks about her friends & the lovely teachers all of the time. Friendly & calm atmosphere, and a great range of activities & creative play.

Just about to start a search for a bikini & swimsuit, & I have the same "bottom-tastic" figure & need for something "forgiving". Did you find anything you could recommend, Canela - or anyone else?
-
I can recommend heading to Decathlon in Surrey Quays - we got pretty much all the basics we needed there for our first camping trip last summer, it's not too pricey. Our kids were very happy in their sleeping bags from there.

Removal company - would you get them to pack for you?
acb2013 replied to LV0210's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Would also recommend Roberts & Denny's. Used them last summer for packing & removals, they were excellent. They were friendly & professional to deal with, used their common sense in labelling & packing boxes, everything was packed safely & they managed to get furniture through the door that looked like it had no hope of fitting! Recommended them to a friend who had a similarly positive experience. We unpacked ourselves (in a very leisurely fashion...) -
Has anyone attended a Mum2Mum Market sale as a seller?

Has anyone attended a Mum2Mum Market sale as a seller?
acb2013 replied to buttercupSE11's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hello, I did a stall at the Baby and Children's Market sale at St Barnabas' Hall in Dulwich village last year - different company running it but similar thing. Think the stall was ?20 and I made about ?120 after I'd paid for that, selling mainly toddler clothes & baby equipment (all high street brands). Quite a lot of people turned up despite it being a hot sunny day when I thought people would probably be in the park. So it was worth it, but it was quite time consuming getting all the clothes washed, making signs etc! Sounds obvious but my tip would be that if you have a lot of stuff to shift, take the clothes for the time of year coming up - the sale I did was in early summer & the summer dresses, sun suits etc flew but no one was interested in really nice snowsuits, anoraks etc -
First birthday party venue recommendations please
acb2013 replied to MrsSeychelles's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I did a similar thing for my partner's 40th, about 40 adults & 20 kids from 0-7yrs, hired the Francis Peak centre in Dulwich Park which was about ?25-30/hr. Then ordered party food from M&S, booze & soft drinks from Sainsburys, hired soft play equipment from Tippie Toes and took along iPhone & speakers for music. Everyone happy! -
Christmas school fairs details request

Goodrich Primary School's is Saturday 5th December 2pm. -
We had similar (2.5 year age gap), especially when I was feeding. As I was exhausted as well I found it pretty upsetting that my older daughter wanted to hurt my younger, so yes it is really hard. Sounds as if you're doing all the right things - showing how to be gentle, not leaving them alone, extra attention where you can etc. Have you also spent 'special' time away from the baby with your older one if you can? Quick trip to the park or cafe? I also had picture books about having a new baby and how it feels to be a big brother/sister. I had toys in every room so when keeping the little one with me there was always something to entertain either of them. Huge amounts of praise for the older one when she was gentle & kind. I can't remember the exact point at which it got better, gradual improvement really, but now (3&5) they play brilliantly together (most of the time!), are very protective of each other & my elder daughter is very proud of her little sister especially around friends without younger siblings. Hang in there!

Info on reception classes locally
acb2013 replied to goldilocks's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Yep, it was as Pickle describes for Goodrich last year. 3 x 30, some time in classes for more structured bits of the day and free flow between the classes and in/outdoors. They mix in the bigger playground at lunchtime (with year 1 & 2 I think) but can choose to stay in the quieter area too - my daughter seemed to like having the option of mixing with her older friends some days or having a bit of a quieter time on others. -
Hello, I did the same search a couple of months back & got a place at Crystal Palace Sports Centre, anything nearer has waiting lists. But v pleased with the classes, my daughter really enjoys herself & it doesn't take long to get there. Also worth trying the ones at Fairlawn school as they got back to say they were doing registrations for September - can't remember the name of the club but found it via a search for gymnastics on here.

Removal company - would you get them to pack for you?
acb2013 replied to LV0210's topic in The Family Room Discussion
If you can afford it, definitely pay the removal company to do it. Relative to the overall cost it's by far the best value for money bit, completely worth it when you have small children in tow.
