The assumption was "Cyclists are not often prosecuted and have limited regulations applied to them because" not the other part or are you deliberately twisting and putting words in others mouths again Earl ? 🤔
-
Discussion point: Cyclists are not often prosecuted and have limited regulations applied to them because "they pose a significantly lower threat to others than say a car or HGV." Assuming that's true, the discussion point is "does seeing cyclist getting more 'lienient' treatment does this encourage other road users to ignore the rules?" it hinges on the broken window theory (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broken_windows_theory) that seeing anti social behaviour encourages it.

Interesting to see this article which shows a marked England wide drop in cycling usage. Whilst in London I suspect the numbers are still relatively high, there does appear to be a problem with the dream. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/cycling/2024/11/06/how-the-great-cycling-boom-collapsed-lockdown/

At least Mal you are finally recognising that cyclists break the law, just like other road users.

Just had this pop up https://www.itv.com/news/london/2024-11-06/study-reveals-scale-of-cyclists-and-e-scooter-riders-ignoring-law-in-london Looks at data from 80 junctions in London to see how cyclists behaved, but don't worry as it also found how drivers behaved too Makes an intersting point about the "urban myth" that cyclists jump red lights (apparently, according to this data they do)

Guess there is nothing as queer as folks (or American voters)

Justvloolung at a marker on a map doesn't give you context. Force candle, a number of incidents around a junction should lead to questions concerning the junctions design, sight lines and other factors before jumping to conclusions on cause. Each incident needs to be reviewed to understand causation and impact to understand more about results. It's easy to draw conclusions either way but they are simply speculation without understanding detail

Imagine the far better view from a rooftop bar in the new development?. Now that's worth making sure is part of the plan

When reported crime in an area starts to increase or peak, police resources are extracted from SNT teams in areas where crime is perceived to be lower and temporarily used to resolve the issue. Unfortunately with numbers so low at the moment it's not a great situation as it leaves other areas short and potentially vulnerable to other crimes. Public confidence in the police is low after incidents over the past few years, wages aren't great and recruitment isn't keeping up with attrition, therefore something has to change to get numbers back up and people feeling safe again. Equally the prison situation with early telease, shorter sentences or even some judges being lenient on low level crimes doesn't help either. A complex situation that has been caused by multiple factors all of which need attention and huge funding is only going to get worse before it gets better.

Peckham, as a major town centre, needs investment and development, the Aylesham Community Action group over the past few years seem determined to keep it down and undeveloped and not once have they put forward alternatives to improve it. A development of this size will bring more people into the town centre catchment area and as such additional spending which will help change the offering in Peckham. Equally it will change the Aylsham centre which needs a boost of this nature to make it a destination point. Southwark urgently needs more housing and this is a great solution for it, there are a few very hidden old shops and buildings scattered around but the development area is a supermarket and car park so not a heritage site. I am sure, like me, you are fed up of the grafitti blight in the town centre caused partially by the closure of Rye Lane during covid and the feeling by some that the town centre is neglected. A redevelopment in the town centre might be the catalyst for improvements to Peckham. Come on Eileen stop blocking what potentially is good thing for Peckham, its people and shoppers and maybe make Peckham a destination, or do you have a better plan to improve the town centre?

Love this if it is true from Southwark news concerning the stones used in vanity square https://southwarknews.co.uk/area/dulwich/ltn-hailed-as-eco-friendly-using-indian-stones-quarried-5000-miles-away/

Possibly best to contact the police and give a full description of the incident so that if the victim reports it they can tie your report to bit and hopefully catch the perpetrators. However a good warning for parents to thier children that this has occurred in the area and to keep their phones hidden when walking around.

Lol Mal It's in Southwark news so everyone can see it, no digging required unlike your attempt to discredit me for posting it. The relationship to East Dulwich is simple. James McCash, in charge of transport policy, made a mistake and maybe we need to do more scrutiny of his actions to make sure other, local, schemes are legal 😉

Love this story in the Southwark News. https://southwarknews.co.uk/area/rotherhithe/exclusive-bus-lane-on-lower-road-that-catches-out-thousands-of-drivers-is-fake/ McCash must be a little red faced now

New Shops in Dulwich / Peckham - 2024 Edition

Isn't a dark, moody interior the ideal cocktail bar and if that prejudiced you from going in to try the food, which is excellent buy the way, then sadly your loss. Maybe try it first before dismissing it due to the intimate atmosphere 🤔 -
So why the big fuss about making cyclists adhere to speed limit? At least have a dog in the fight if you are going to bark like that!
-
Hen hen hen Let's not turn this into a rant against motorists in an attempt to deflect the fact that cyclists just don't follow the rules and don't want to be brought into line. Your response shows the typical cyclist arrogant view that they shouldn't be legislated against because car drivers are atill adjusting to the new speed limits, most of which have only just been introduced. If that's your sole argument for why cyclists shouldn't adhere to speed limits then frankly it's pathetically thin and bullturd.
-
Of course you have that view It's interfering with the view that cyclists are somehow "special" and above the law Obviously you are stuck in the 70s as modern penny farthings are more than capable of speeds in excess of 20mph and cyclists use apps like Strava which uses GPS to show route and speeds, so hardly not practical, just inconvenient for people who don't give a shimano.....
-
Guess this could be a good thing London royal Parks demand 20mph speed limit for cyclists. https://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/royal-parks-london-speed-limit-cyclists-accidents-b1188932.html personally I believe that before 20mph limits wete introduced, cyclists rarely exceeded the national speed limits, hence why they weren't considered as speeding, yet now everyone else is reduced to 20mph it's about time that it applied to all road users. Can't wait to hear the deniers cry that cyclists are special and cycling is sustainable, which has nothing whatsoever to do with speed.

There's pexmas in Peckham 14th and 15th December which is a good shopping event. The so last century christmas vintage market https://www.dulwichpicturegallery.org.uk/whats-on/festive-events/2024/december/so-last-centurys-christmas-vintage-market/ Not sure if the East Dulwich Christmas Cracker is occurring this year, someone might be able to advise on that. But i hope it is
