ULEZ expansion ruled lawful by High Court
Spartacus replied to megalaki84's topic in Roads & Transport
Is it just the ULEZ ? Two of the biggest polluters have been going green, with black cab taxis and buses moving towards electric. I personally suspect that the removal of diesel from both fleets has had an impact on air quality and it may well he that the ULEZ has had a large impact, but along side it being introduced, other changes wete occurring. -
Not according to this article, a number are still built to this day on a ladder type chassis https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body-on-frame Admittedly, apart from.a handful of special British cars, most are made elsewhere in the world. As you say, at least be accurate 🤣 However back to the discussion, yes SUV type vehicles do seem to be becoming the norm, just look in any car park, and a lot is driven by marketing and lifestyle selling.

This in a discussion about a CPZ, in an area you don't even live in !!

In a fantasy world , Musk will shoot Trump in Texas whilst testing a new hyper velocity rifle, and the bullet will move so fast it will hit Vance seconds after. Texas still has the death penalty, especially for presidential assassins! I wonder what odds Ladbrooks give on that 🤔

Again with the use of "minority" to try and play down people's concerns, it's almost as if you work for Southwark
-
It's not additional parking, but existing parking that's being made pay and display. That will push visitors to roads on the opposite side of Lordship Lane whilst also making it harder generally for shoppers and visitors to park. I can see lots for businesses to object to.

Maybe Southwark would take a leaf out of the Roman's book.and build a straight cycle path 😅 -

It strikes me that a better solution would be to place the cycle lane in the green, making it a more enjoyable experience then cycling up a road, and completely segregating it from buses thus increasing safety for all. Granted a small amount of the green space will be sacrificed but it does reduce conflict between cyclists and buses using the same space and possibly a more enjoyable cycling experience. But I guess that's too radical for the council -

South Circular roadworks - excessive disruption
Spartacus replied to Penguin68's topic in Roads & Transport
It does raise a good general question on why any public realm works seem to take so long. If a company like Conway was being paid directly by us, we would be demanding a quick and efficient service, but being contracted by the council seems to extend delivery times. Look at how long it took to do the works on Dulwich Square as an example. Should we not be getting better value out of our public realm projects ? -
Sigh, nibble nibble till they get it all.

It would have terminated in Peckham not Camberwell and was blocked by vocal locals both along the route and locally who didn't want a tram depot in Peckham (despite the good ot would bring) Such a shame it didn't happen
-
There was that risk with trams, bit trolly buses didn't need tracks. As in all things, there has to be some self responsibility not to cycle along the tracks this avoiding the risk of getting captured. As the old saying goes, size doesn't matter Frankfurt for example has an extensive tram network and it's about half the size of london but just as busy
-
Strange title I grant you but just came across this article talking about the extensive network of electric trolly buses which replaced the older network of electric trams https://metro.co.uk/2025/02/12/map-reveals-forgotten-london-trolleybus-network-big-tube-22538149/ Strikes me that we were better off, pollution wise, with the old network of electric vehicles and only now are we returning to electric buses. Don't you just wish that the trams or trolly buses were kept and diesel buses were never introduced? Now it's too late as setting up a tram network is far too expensive compared to the relative cost if they maintained what they had.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/02/12/labour-council-wellbeing-day-off-ltn-plans/ An update on how the court case is going. If the report on the library consultation is correct, with residents showing anger, then you have to question if their views were taken into consideration or dismissed as an angry mob 🤔

Southwark consultation on Peckham gyratory
Spartacus replied to Marguerita98's topic in Roads & Transport
One question that needs to be understood about both sections that proposals for changes for buses, is "are there currently problems that cause major delays alreay?" Granted buses can be slow going north towards Rye Lane however often it is caused by either other buses at the Nigel Riad bus stop or the junction with Heaton Road which causes tail backs. The north side of Peckham Rye (proposed bus gate beyween Scylla Road and Nunhead Lane ) never strikes me as a busy section but I don't traverse it often. However it does look like they are rerouting the 342, p12 and 78 northbound along it, removing their stop at the corner of East Dulwich Riad and Peckham Rye (a good spot for changing from a 37, 12, 197, 63 and 363 to the other buses, now forcing the change at the Nigel Road stop) I guess the current flow patterns need to be understood o make sense of this prooposal and questions raised over passenger preferences on buses as well. -

Yes, the barry Road side of Peckham Rye, where if you want to go to Nunhead there is no right turn towards Nunhead Lane
