East Dulwich Station Bridge
mamafeelgood replied to KalamityKel's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
i saw the flat bed truck tipped up. the workman on the estate and i were laughing at the stupidity of the driving to have forgotten to put his crane down. all the trains are crawling past the back of the house so i would say that a normal service seems to have resumed, only one train crosses the bridge at a time. -
Adventure bar - East Dulwich (Lounged when no longer about same)

music can be shut out of the high street and therefore chosen not to be heard, the outside design and type cannot. it is there for all to see and as i have voiced before the design of this place is bad, uninspiring and flat. sorry but one thing i will say for inside 72 was the sign looked good. -
i would like to add Nationwide building society to the list of good money people. they have been brilliant in every case of fraud, not questioned the problem: varying from several thousands to the recent one this weekend of ?300. someone even attempted a fake passport at a counter, i kid you not! they also gave me a direct landline number rather than an 08 one so when i call it's free, hurrah! basically, someone posted earlier that natwest were silly by sending a letter. as i understand it a bank will immediately try to get in touch and call 2-3 times with a half hour delay. their policy, quite rightly, is not to leave a message. then if they have no luck they send you a letter having restricted the card. this time my money was taken in malaysia: it's bad enough that they are ripping all this money in lovely hot sunny destinations without it having to be my child benefit that they're lifting. and yes credit cards are actually better as you can cancel a payment, unlike a debit card where the money has been taken. this is how it was explained to me, however, i think i'm going to stick to cash for the next few months. it will help organise spending as the recession hits and will stop me from buying tat that i don't need.

i am pleased to hear that some people get good service in there. i went in with a simple question, not rude and not particularly stupid and they guy was a total tit. then when it came to paying he actually made it awkward. so back to buying books in review and kids ones on northcross road. sorry, he was simply rude which pisses me off because i actively try and support local shops.

i'm sure that they mix a good cocktail and people will end up going. my only complaint is that the graphics are awful. but then i'm sure that's just pretentious thing to care about... -
Picnic benches in Goose Green Playground
mamafeelgood replied to victor's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
there has been an ongoing consultation about goose green and playground, signs have been posted up throughout the year for anyone to see ... that's the consultation that i refer to. -
Picnic benches in Goose Green Playground
mamafeelgood replied to victor's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
well no i don't think that is the reason as none of the toddler stuff is there. it's next to the climbing frame aimed at the biggest kids and no mother of a toddler would let him/her run around there unsupervised as that gate is always left open. i think it's consultation gone crazy, next there will be climbing frames in with the swings, tables atop slides and real geese in honor of the name... -
so is tea

Picnic benches in Goose Green Playground
mamafeelgood replied to victor's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
i cannot believe this. why don't they fix that flipping gate that is always left open before adding more tables for parents to sit at? i love goose green playground and can't believe that they have done this. who knows what the consultation threw up? -
Goose Green Primary in 'Special Measures'
mamafeelgood replied to Zaardvark's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
i don't understand how GG's catchment area means that the children are any different to dog kennel hill which last time i looked had a glowing report. it certainly sounds like people have had very different experiences of the school. at this point i could also point out that the state school i went to had teachers reportedly calling the whole set up unteachable but it pulled through. again, charter will need a percentage of children who are prepared to learn and then they will have the freedom to do so. as one teacher put it 20 years ago at parents evening, it takes just 10% to listen to make a class teachable. we are lucky to have comprehensives that people dare to send their kids too. speak to anyone in north west london or lambeth and they feel like they have NO choice. what makes me sick is when a school like dulwich college makes a load of money by holding some over priced contemporary furniture fair which a local comp could really have done with. and no, scandinavian second hand chairs do not need to be showcased in the ugly parts of dulwich college. -
no, this cannot be true. louisa i agree with you. added to ridiculous prices starbucks is for people who don't actually like coffee...

Goose Green Primary in 'Special Measures'
mamafeelgood replied to Zaardvark's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
louisa, do you believe that it is a schools responsibility to teach children discipline? do you not consider that maybe (as is considered on the continent) this responsibility should not lie with the state but with the parents from the age 0 onwards? that without parents supporting discipline in schools children will never learn respect? surely, an issue as massive as lack of respect and discipline in society at all ages (from school playground to road rage etc...) cannot be answered with yet another trite class quip? having only experienced state education in london i truly believe that schools need all the community and parental support that they can get, not a drubbing on a local website that is dogged with it's usual ridiculous class statements. i attended an award winning comp that i now hear, 20 years on, is being closed down. why? because more and more parents are terrified with what they read and are too scared to send their kids to the local state school. this creates sink schools that benefit no one. get rid of charitable status for private schools that would be a great start. as i have mentioned before across the channel a private school is for children underachievers not the privileged few. so there you go cliches if you want but: working class discipline your own, stop relying on the state. middle classes stop deserting areas for better post codes/schools. upper classes get out of your ivory towers and spread the love. the point is EVERYONE plays a part in this. -
well some friends told me about this poll, apparently you can enter your band and maybe get selected to play start of festival. thought it may interest any local bands...
-
http://www.thegreenmanfestival.co.uk/greenpoll/ don't know if this should go here or in wants, recommends etc... but saw this and wondered if any local bands wanted to give it a try....

McDonalds in East Dulwich

burger king any day over McDs -
oooh mines still 100 grand more than the price was back in 2005, maybe one of the (many) positives of living in the denmark village (said with irony) in se5 means that prices never escalated to far? however, i agree with above, so long as you can sit out the next 5 years you should be ok. i too sold a flat in brixton for a good price, but already 5 years ago we couldn't afford off lordship lane. well we could but i just thought that price v size was just not sane down there.
-
it was not a personal question about specific preference, i was just interested in what one might consider worth paying more for that's all and if it's 'middle class' to want to eat well or just plain common sense but sadly due to cost not available to anyone. i don't know if i'd call GBK middle class, it's just a chain (oooooooh noooooooooooooooo i fired another hot topic up there) either way i stand by the fact that bmc is not worth the hype, as mentioned before i think petit tou just off bellenden beats it hands down, oh and the peckham park cafe.
-
clive what sanity you speak. speaking from family experience, we are the only non continental dwellers, it is pathetic what people have accepted as 'good' food in this country. having said this, i have never liked the service or the food in BMC, i think it's overpriced for what they offer. p.s. louisa: if one prefers free range eggs to battery, or, organic sausages to meat scraped off the floor ones - does that automatically make the person someone you deride? or does that demonstrate that the person cares about what they put on their mouth? i am not having a go, i am genuinely interested to know what you think about quality of food, but please do not hide behind class stereotypes...

enough already. how many times does this forum have to be jammed with parent/childless snoreathon argument?? as a mum who takes kids in pubs but in the afternoon only i can only agree that there are some parents that really just don't look out for their kids. i can't count the amount of times i have turned up with toys etc... to keep kids distracted when children who have been left to run around come and snatch them so i end up trying to keep things calm for everyone. it annoys the hell out of me. so even with kids i have had enough of parents who do not seem to care about what their children get up to when out. i have also had enough of this totally selfish sob from all these people who can't stand buggies that are actually better for your back or to see children out and about with their parents enjoying things that make life good. get over it or go somewhere else. my advice to you: if someones' kid is annoying you TELL THEM (yes i did mean to shout there) otherwise they will just keep doing it. stop bitching on forums, it's not like your tackling a teenager on a bus, these are toddlers so speak up...

Flower deliveries (outside John Allen flower shop)
mamafeelgood replied to scotslass's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
plus they're imported dutch flowers, killing off the british flower industry. saw an interesting doc on this and i have since stopped buying imported flowers, so yes, we have less flowers but if i'm going to be like that about my veg why be a hypocrite regarding flowers. it winds me up no end this lorry, blocks up LL causing bad traffic and as pointed out it's actually illegal to park on the zig zag lines... -

i have happily cohabited with a load since moving in, the only reason i would like them all dead is due to their cruel british bating. so i look forward to hearing of any good tricks to get rid of them, i wonder if C no.5 will have the same effect as barbie perfume.... -
possibly the best kids telly ever made?
