  1. Hi I can't help but I do remember a number of threads on the forum about this over the years, many in the same position as yourself. As an example (with some potentially helpful contact details) see here: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1555979,page=1 I do remember another thread about someone who had asked for an itemized invoice and through this was able to show she was being charged for communal works which were never carried out.
  2. Lpool - that?s really rubbish & must be incredibly frustrating. I?m sure the police are stretched but you would like to think this sort of thing (which might help with future investigations) would be looked into as a priority!!

Ha! Ok - but how about an admin assistant or someone doing data entry? I wouldn't profess to have any experience in operating a restaurant. I did the odd shift waiting tables at uni: all zero hours stuff but what I worked, I was paid, and I think that is right (both as a worker and as a layperson/general customer). Those who have owned/operated/managed restaurant businesses will have an entirely different perspective & different concerns.
  4. Joe leg - agreed - but how many interviews have people done that essentially involved you doing the work of a (paid) member of staff? For me - none, and I wouldn?t respond well to the suggestion. I agree that it?s hard to see if someone is a good fit until you see them working - but the same applies for office work, and that is why we have probation periods - for which we receive full pay. You cannot tell if someone can make a coffee, prep food, or interact with customers - but you also cannot tell if an IT person has experience of the systems he claims to be proficient in, an accountant can balance accounts, or a scheduler can book trades until you actually see them doing it. They are paid for this. Why not a hospitality worker?
  5. I guess the difference is that the tray isn?t kept in the kitchen alongside other fresh (raw) ingredients?
  6. Yes I think that is a valid point penguin. However in my case it has done completely the opposite - their attitude has now meant I will actively seek out other shops for any purchases in the future, regardless of current parcel- holding status!
  7. Sounds similar to this post 8 months ago, also reported to at authorities. Hope you, friend and puppy are OK Rosy. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1810610,1818701#msg-1818701
  8. I lugged down my old virgin media TiVo box & router, and then when I arrived with the package, and walked to the counter, I was asked if I wanted to buy anything. When I said no & I just wanted to drop off the package I was told the collectplus point was no longer working. It might have been a coincidence but the guy was particularly unhelpful about the whole thing. I left thinking there was no way I would ever be going back. I?m still annoyed weeks later!
  9. I wonder if there is scope to do something like the ivy house in nunhead?
  10. Hi SJ - do let us know when you know more. I have a bulky items collection booked for Tuesday and although items are used your friend is welcome to the items if she would like them.
  11. Has it already shut? Is there any hope of one last amazing pizza???? With that chilli oil? And a perfect pint alongside????
  12. I?ve complained to Southwark via the online form a number of times. I?m not quite sure why the form promises to deal with dumped rubbish over a period of 24 hours. I last reported the dump of rubbish on Crawthew Grove on 5 November, and emailed later that week. The pile has only grown since then - I notice the rubbish wasn?t removed with the Tuesday when all other residents rubbish is collected. The pub also contributes to this by consistently leaving rubbish on the corner - right now there is an old blow up mattress out there.
  13. Thank you turtle. If I see the fox again I will call.
  14. Hi all Any idea if there are any alternatives to the RSPCA locally? I just called about a fox I had seen outside ED station at about 8.10. They say they can?t come out unless I have caught the animal or am watching it (I.e. it is in my garden), which, although frustrating, I understand as animals do move, especially wild ones. He/she was out at an unusual time of day though, and limping, and was very close to the road so I?m concerned it could be injured further or cause an accident.
  15. I loved the artwork they had up in the restaurant - hope they will be keeping it... or some of it!
  16. There is an oxfam bookshop in Berne hill, I think?
  17. Just popped into Mind at the top of lordship lane with a small bag of items - pretty surprised by their attitude. I asked if I may leave my bag and the woman sighed audibly, said "I suppose you may" and and pointed to the ground. I said I could take it somewhere else if it was too much trouble - and she sighed again and said "as long as it's not books, we'll manage". I shouldn't care - it's about donating goods so that a worthy charity makes money....but it really annoyed me, so I took it to st Christopher's instead (the smaller one on lordship lane). Anyway, the ladies were nice, and actively asked me to sign up for gift aid. I had a dress in there with tags still on so I'm pleased my donation will mean slightly more money is raised.
  18. Yes, I have seen him a number of times. The first several months ago - I gave him some money, I've wondered a few times since about whether he was visiting a friend in the hospital, or sleeping rough and getting help from the Salvation Army. I've seen him on/off, perhaps every other week since. I wonder how he has ended up here - it's so odd that I have questioned whether it is genuine or just a story for passers by.
  19. Louisa - I don't think that's necessarily true! For example - dulwich fox has posted for years about his love for animals, including how they care for local wildlife and also (if I remember correctly) how they avoid certain animal products like foie gras because it is cruel. I don't perceive that any decision to eat enriched cage chicken is down to a disregard of animal welfare, just not really believing that free range is that much better. I think it is better - better for the animal but also better for you! I'm not pretending I am spending/wasting money to make myself feel better. I pay more per kilo but consume less overall.
  20. I agree with you Fox - we can never be sure and in an environment where restaurants are pushed to cuts costs in order to trim margins, it's quite likely that if it isn't listed as free range/organic, what you are buying won't be. But I think that is different to a restaurant charging a higher price for free range but then not providing that. I believe that the chicken in Hisar will be free range because they advertise it as such. Raising an animal free range genuinely does give a better standard of living- it costs more to provide better welfare standards, and this manifests in a higher price for meat. It also means that produce raised in this manner has higher protein and lower levels of fat (meat) and in eggs, lower levels of cholesterol.
  21. Sometimes I can't figure out if you are real! I understand what free range is: I have been to a free range farm. I have also been to a farm that kept caged hens, completely de-beaked. I try and make the choice, wherever possible, to eat free range meat. If I'm at home, I buy organic. Yes - it means my meat isn't cheap.... so I just eat less of it. I'd rather pay for a product that tastes better. However I think we are getting away from the main point, which is that somewhere quoted you close to ?9 for free range chicken - which you maintain is a label that ordinarily has little bearing on price. Just as a little test of that, I looked at Sainsbury's- their free range chicken breast fillet is priced at ?16.75 per kilo. Non free range? ?6.63. Organic, in case you wonder is ?19.50. Edited - for grammar, spelling & unintentional curtness

Well said Sue! The chicken at Hisar IS free range, and it says so very clearly on all their menus in the restaurant - take away or not!
  23. I know this is off topic but I couldn't resist.....What's been banned is the sale of new stocks of hoovers that produce more noise and heat than suction...how is that a bad thing? A lot of manufacturers spend time making products "sound" more big and powerful than they actually are - meaning the machine costs more to run as it's less efficient and uses more energy! Turning now to finding milk in DV - I remember when I first moved I went down to the village as I had heard so much about it....I thought I was completely lost, and asked a passer by where all the high street shops were - they directed me back to East Dulwich!
  24. A rare insight into the man behind the mask!!!
  25. I think Natty is a guy from some previous posts(pre the two current threads on here) but perhaps I'm thinking of another user. Not that this would explain either of the above posts.
