Adventure bar - not been yet - good for a night out?
eater81 replied to Alabama's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The place is dire and the kids that inhabit it need to be sent for a year of hard labour. -
how do i get a game of cricket in Dulwich area?
eater81 replied to medium paced's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
If you're from the Carribbean or have Carribbean parents /grandparents why not ask the West Indies cricket team? Any team that gets beaten by England by 10 wickets could do with some new players in my opinion! -
On yer bike mate, no one's interested!
-
At their prices id actually rather go to Somerfield! Where's the M and S gonna be by the way?
-
This place is a farce, every time I go in there I end up furious. Queues halfway up to the back of the shop and the 2 staff on the tills seem to be always faffing around getting lottery scratch cards or having a mothers conference about something or other. You go into any small Sainsbury's or Tesco's in this city and it is like a conveyor belt, long queues are dealt with quickly by the large number of competently staffed payment terminals. Somerfield on the other hand is a shambles and SHOULD BE FORCED TO IMPROVE OR MAKE WAY FOR A BETTER RUN SUPERMARKET. discuss.

Dv1, no, to be honest I couldn't give a sh1t if one were parked outside my house. Have those that have complained about these "terrible eyesores" thought about asking the van man if he would mind moving them to another street? Iam sure he would be happy to if he realised the that he is causing whole streets to go to the dogs and mortally offending honest hard working citizens of east dulwich.
-
Honestly, let the poor guy have his business. How anybody can find these vans offensive I do not know. As for the original poster complaining that they are an eyesore! There are a thousand eyesores in East Dulwich alone. This is South London, eyesore city.

Scammed on Lordship Lane - not sure?
eater81 replied to wee quinnie's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
You have to feel sorry for such scammers to have to resort to this kind of stuff. Is there a more dirty way to scrabble an existance than by scamming people for 20 quid here and there? At least if you have been scammed you can console yourself in the fact that dispite having got one over on you this time the poor scammer can hardly be living the life of riley. Banks on the other hand............grrrrrrrrr. -
Barry, this is a good thread, I am impressed that you have come on here. I would like to voice my concerns about the "heavies" in black coats that Southern Trains have started hiring to enforce ticket checks. They have a heavy handed approach and do not understand simple rules of train travel. My normal journey into work involves travelling from North Dulwich to Victoria, changing at Peckham Rye. When I travel I buy a ticket at ND to "london terminals". A few weeks ago when changing at Peckham Rye my path was blocked by a gang of 3 inspectors. They inspected my valid ticket and told me I was commiting an offence by trying to change trains. Apparently I needed to buy two tickets, one from ND to PR and one from PR to Victoria! This is obviously completely wrong, so I was not ammused. When I refused to give them my ticket they tried to take it from me by force, resulting in a physical scuffle. The incident was only resolved when a police man arrived and intervened, castigating the inspectors and allowing me to proceed with my lawful journey. I can honestly say that I have never encountered a more boneheaded group of morons. I have two complaints: 1- These hired heavies are overly intimidating to passengers. They behave more like nightclub bouncers than ticket inspectors. Like the Metropolitan Police riot squad at the G20 summit they seem more "up for a ruck" than commited to actually doing their job properly. 2- They should be familiar with the rules and apply common sense when dealing with passengers. It is obvious that they have not received sufficient training to understand properly the regulations they enforce, or have chosen to ignore it! I would be interested to know if you have had similar complaints or other problems with them and also if anyone else on this forum has had similar problems. Thanks.

Richer Sounds shop on Lordship Lane
eater81 replied to foxyarchie's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Richer Sounds is one of the best shops in the country, pure and simple. They sell high quality products at prices which are literally unbeatable. All the gear in my house was bought there at some point or another. What's with all these comparisons with Netto? So because a place is cheap it is considered "low class" by some people. What kind of clown would go out of their way to pay more to buy a product from another shop with better "social status"? Such people really need to get over their pathetic and pretentious aspirational insecurities. Nobody is impressed. -
Door knocking scammers again on St Aidan's?
eater81 replied to Crystal Tips's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
rosieh, sorry when you wrote "The eyeball was incidental really" I read it as "The eyeball was incidentally real"! Should read things a bit more carefully in future, but I bet others have done the same. -

eater81 replied to Crystal Tips's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
So are you saying he took out his actual eye ball? Come off it, that would be impossible! The eyeball is firmly attached to the skull and brain through a combination of muscles and nerve tissue. It must have been a glass eye. -
Old sign enquiry in East Dulwich
eater81 replied to Kingsbury David's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I'm no expert on road signs but you should have a wander around Dulwich Village, there's loads of old looking road signs round there. In fact a journey from Lordship lane to Herne hill station via East Dulwich Grove, Village way and Half Moon Lane could make you very happy. Could you not get in touch with the various councils? They will surely have somewehere a database of all their road signs, most likely including info on when they were last changed / replaced. -
Don't know if they're doing it this year, but last year there was an Xmas tree shredding machine in the middle of Peckham Rye, near the cafe. They were shredding xmas trees free of charge.

You should be glad you can't get > reception! Shit! Didn't think of that one. I can't live without my phone though, so I reckon that if I ditch the contract and get a anonymous pay as you go sim card I should be safe from the opressors. I think Jah Lush's hills argument sums it up. There are base stations within less than a mile of the village, so distance should not be a problem. Its those flaming hills that are the issue. What Dulwich village needs is a base station to call its own, best place would be at the Calton Ave / Turkey road crossroads. I shall make it my priority to arrange for one to be errected.

East Dulwich police station have selectDNA kits available

Nowhere did I say that I am a law abiding citizen, I was refering to others. I was also refering to human DNA and not the DNA of common household appliances. -

eater81 replied to karter's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
As a law abiding citizen YOU SHOULD be worried what the government will do with your DNA. Right now we live in a fairly stable and accountable democracy, however that could change. If the DNA database does fall into the wrong hands in the future the possibilites for evil deeds are endless. ----secret genetic experiments, ----oppression and imprisonment of people identified as having certain genetic characteristics, ----the fitting up of "dissenters" for crimes...etc..etc. My DNA is my most personal information, it is part of what defines me as a human being. What right do the government have to own that data?? I am not owned by anyone! -
IM NOT A TROLL!!! I just like to speak my mind!
-
Have just had a look here: http://www.sitefinder.ofcom.org.uk/ There are many base stations in the area, including a cluster of about four at the southern end of Lordship lane. So why reception should be so poor is a mystery to me. So we've written off o2, Tmob and Vodafone....does anybody use Orange... is it any good? Can't think of any more providers!

A Christmas tale (shopping in the Lane)
eater81 replied to TheePope's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Whats that comedy sketch thats been on recently? May have been on the Enfield/Whitehouse show but I may be mistaken. Sums up perfectly the boneheaded morons that buy the useless junk sold in such shops as the ones discussed above. -
Cheers, So that writes off T Mobile and Vodafone, my Gf's O2 is also shambolic. What the hell are these clowns playing at? How hard can it be to provide decent mobile service in one of the world's great capital cities!

SelectDNA? Does that mean that the property gets marked with your own DNA as a means of identifying you as its owner? If that is the case then it sounds more like a crafty attempt by the police to build up their sinister DNA database on the sly! SAY NO TO THE BIG BROTHER STATE!!!! -
Hi all, I have just moved to a new gaff on Calton Avenue, about 100yds up from the village cross roads.....(no more noise from sirens, idiots and Somerfield lorries on Lordship Lane for me!!!!) and am less than impressed with the reception on my Vodafone Mobile. It is almost impossible to make a decent call from inside the house. Does anybody else have similar problems, or could it be the way my new flat is built? Fortunately my contract with VF is up so I can leave at any time, is there a particular mobile service provider that anyone can recommend for good reception in Dulwich village? Cheers, Eater.

That loathsome new bar, +venture or what ever it is called, also seems to have attracted a crew of young noise makers, regulary making a drunken racket with their tedious behaviour.

will dex, if you think 4 quid for a return into town is a bargain then you a clearly a moron. Probably the same kind of moron that would pay 500k for a shit terraced house in East Dulwich.
