  1. I never take public transport, the though of doing so makes me feel violently ill. Bike it is for the eater.
  2. Actually you can get there fairly quickly (by london standards) at about 7:30 pm. I always go south via turney road from dulwich village, then aim for knollys road and valley road, which parallel the A23, until streatham common, then get on the a23 until am there. Ok, is quite bad traffic through streatham etc and there may well be a better way, but the last time I went it took me about 30 mins, at about 8pm on a thursday eveining, if my memory serves me right.
  3. Advice for the original poster, ur gonna have to either: move house, get a push bike, or get a motorbike / scooter if you don't want you daily working life to be made a misery at the hands of TFL, the station staff and the 10,000 other pillocks trying to travel in the same direction.
  4. This thread is a classic example of the piss poor public transport system that exists in this cess pit of a city. It is less than four miles yet it takes 55 minutes, to quote one poster. How much would it cost for a return journey there? Train fare to London Bridge: is it ?4ish return? Two tube tickets on oyster: ?3.20 (about that anyway). Total ?7.20. Chance of a seat: zero. Most people can walk 4 miles in about 1hr 10. Such a distance would take about 20 mins on a bike. Conclusion: in this city we have a shit, over-priced, overcrowded transport system, which for many people, myself included when for what ever reason I am forced to use it, turns an average working day into one of dejection and misery. Incidentally, it is also staffed in the main by a bunch of rude, arrogant, boneheaded morons.
  5. Mr Barber. I do declare that you have made a rod for your own back by coming on this forum!! Ignore the posters hassling you about all these petty issues and you loose votes for apparently 'not caring'. Attend to any of them in a half hearted manner and you risk losing votes for apparently being inept. Attend to the concerns of your friendly subjects and you'll be here till next Christmas! Good luck on the campaign trail!
  6. So believing in talking snakes, angels, miracles, that the world was created in 6 days flat, that the theory of evolution is invalid etc etc is the mark of an intelligent human being?
  7. Bellerophon: There is no targeting of Catholics in my posts. I have as much comtepmt for Sikhism, Islam, Judaism or any other religion that rejects logical and scientific reason in favour of blind faith in outdated fairy stories. Please do not feel victimmised. You are ALL numbskulls. Elly74: you said in your post that you walk your kids to school. What therefore is your beef with me? I praise your attitude, if all parents walked with their kids to school as you do, then the world would be a better place. Keef: If the truth offends you then I am an offensive person.
  8. Never saw any problem with this junction myself, save for the idiots who can't drive properly, mainly mothers picking up their offspring from the swine-flu infested Alleyns School. Quite why they had to close the road for weeks, forcing me to drive the long way round to get anywhere useful, I have no idea.
  9. Prefer the Clipper circus myself.
  10. Because people who want their kids to go to this Catholic school, which is the subject of the discussion, have decided to send their kids there instead of a school which is nearer, thus giving them an excuse to drive their cars to school. Hence religion and the numbskulls who practice it are partly responsible for this problem.
  11. To hear that some of this idiocy is caused by religion makes me more and more angry. There should no place for such outdated superstition in this country's education system. I have no problem with people who believe in such mumbo jumbo, they have the freedom to do what they like so long as it doesn't impact on other people. It is however wrong that this country should pay for such clap trap out of public funds and allow it in state funded schools. Allowing religion in schools: a) promotes racial division, b) panders to the idiots who should have been banished from intelligent debate a long time ago. c) is wrong for many many more reasons.
  12. The problem of idiot parents using excessively large vehicles to drop their kids off in this area is a big one. Calton Aveune in Dulwich is a graveyard for car wing mirrors as these clowns attempt to pass each other. 1. Why are you using a car to drop your kids off at school? Do you really live so far away that it is you only option? 2. If you must drive you stinking brats to school at least have the consideration to take a small car. Piss off with your oversized 4wd status symbols. 3. If you do walk your kids back, at least have the decency to keep them quiet until they get home. There is nothing more irritating that the daily precession of un-controlled brats screaming as they pass up my road.
  13. Yes, that's right. You are all far better than the people of Dartford and Nuneaton. East Dulwich is a far superior place. Would you mind telling me exactly what you think the dermographic of ED is anyway?
  14. This post is a perfect illustration of the pretentious middle class status anxiety that is a problem with many of the people in this area. The original poster is obviously shocked to have seen some "poor people" in the post office! Does that make him feel uncomfortable? East Dulwich is neither a middle class area nor a working class area. It is a normal area with people from a wide range of incomes, races and backgrounds. The dermographic of ED and quality of shops and restaurants is very similar to the average small town outside of London. People think it is 'special' because it doesn't have the swathes of decaying council properties that exist in surrounding areas. The problem with East Dulwich is the tossers who think that drinking at Green and Blue and shopping at White Stuff is a badge of honour which confirms they are better than the 'poor people'. Idiots who deliberately spend more money to buy the same goods from Somerfield rather than Iceland because it makes them feel better about themsleves. All hail the East Dulwich Elite!!
  15. > eater81: by "buying it back" I meant "going with 4 > large friends and using all the irons in my golf > bag." :) Let me know if you find it and I'll hapilly come with you to bend some theiving heads.
  16. What you can do is buy some glue , (epoxy I think is the best sort, or something like that )and use it to fill all the allen key and screw driver holes on your bike, thus making them impossible for some thieving scumbag to undoo. If you ever need to adjust them, you can use nail varnish remover to dissolve the glue. Ok, the scum could also do this, but the chance of them carrying nail varnish remover on them is fairly low I think. Plus it takes a few minutes to disolve it properly, which will piss them off as they obviously don't wanna hang about.
  17. I think the cats would disagree with you on that one!
  18. Since I was a kid, I have seen many cats over the years run over by traffic, both mine and others. Unfortunately nearly all cats have a roaming streak for food/ sex etc which unfortunately leads them into trouble with cars. I don't think there's much you can do really, I don't think confining the cat to the house is good for either the cat, or your house. Some cats do seem to have road sense where others don't. Whether this can be learnt/ taugh or not I don't know. Perhaps the best thing you can do is find some way of discouraging them from going walkabouts, ie have them neutered etc. Oddly enough, the oldest cats I've had were also the fattest. Ok, being fat is bad for the health but I think these cats were so well fed and lazy they couldn't be arsed going anywhere! I don't mean to sound callous here but perhaps turning ones cat into an obese moggy could be the secret to a long life?
  19. This is of interest: http://www.make-digital.com/make/vol11/?pg=76&u1=texterity I love the brown bike, what a shitheap!
  20. Don't buy it back for christ's sake! Find the bike and turn up with a means of causing a slow and painful death to whoever has it. Bike thieves are the SCUM of this city and should be hung drawn and quartered. Actually, i've just gone for the Evans Cycles insurance scheme....?30 a year to insure both mine and the gfs bikes. Well worth it I think, particularly as I've had two bikes taken in the past year. Does anybody have any good suggestions to avoid this curse of bike theft, apart from the obvious ones of course? One thing I'm gonna do with my new bike and which I think would be appropriate for anyone with anything of any value is sand off the logos and scuff up all the paintwork, maybe add some gaffa tape, baiscally to make it look like a knackered piece of crap. Perhaps doing that might make woth less to thieves and hopefully put them off.
  21. Alright, If your looking for authentic chip shop curry sauce to make at home, what you need to do is go down to the Chinese super market in Peckham, or the one by Camberwell green and get hold of some of this stuff: http://www.wingyipstore.co.uk/display-product.php?ref=80377&currentpageref=2481 or something similar. It is BOSS and lasts for ages. Recipie: put about half a pint of hot water in a pan, heat and add curry paste until the desired taste and consistency are achieved.
  22. Ok, I will try Firezza the next time I get a pizza, see what all the fuss is about.
  23. I have not heard of this Firezza joint, web site looks flash, looks like they cater for the more pretentious elements in this area. Of the ones I have used my view is this: half moon herne hill: Complete rubbish. Ordered from these once and was not amused. Pizza Pan: edible, but not the best. Speedos: good honest tasty pizza at a good honest price. Pizza GoGo: my favourite, quality pizza and good service with good meal deals.
  24. I do consider my self a connoisseur of Indian food having eaten on average 3 curries a week for most of my adult life, both home made and restaurant bought. The Dulwich Tandoori is definitely up there with the best I've had and I'm never disappointed when I go there. Its also a well run place, the staff are very friendly and I love the traditional Taj Mahal shaped booth style curry house decor. The only thing bad about the place is that annoying waiter who seems to do the rounds of the local curry houses ( seen him at Mirash and Jaflongs also) u know, the one who tries to force his tomato chutney down your neck, but he's not too bad to put up with.
  25. It is very sad that HAL9000 is so resigned to the fact that the police would tell her to piss off. Sadly he/she is most probably right. If this kind of thing happened in my home area (the good old north east wales) the local bobby would be straight over to give these kids a good talking to and take them home to their parents who would give them a clip round the ear. Why should things in London be any different?
