Got some great tips for places to go on here, last time I went away so thought I'd try again. We've got 4 nights in Las Vegas for husbands' 40th in March- I've done a little research into restaurants etc but feeling a bit swamped with choice. Looking for a couple of really good recommendations (good quality sit down places rather than novelty places). Anyone who's been recently and has recommendations very much appreciated. Many thanks

Anyone get (or know) Dulwich wood primary? I put it as choice number 6 as it was the nearest to our house. Didn't think they'd travel that far down the list and don't know anything about it!

Thanks so much for the recommendations- had a great meal at Corte sconta for the birthday night then another at antiche carampane on another. Both highly recommended. Thanks again to all.

Do not understand why people are responding to this thread. Either the person who has started it is a troll or is so pig headed that they are not going to listen to reason whatever is said. Don't feed the troll/wally.

..looking for some advice/Tips. I'm going next month for a big birthday of mine. Visited for a day trip a few years ago in mid August and whilst I loved the city itself, found it difficult to escape tourist trap restaurants when there for only a day. I'm visiting for a long weekend so any advice re interesting/lovely restaurants out of the main tourist drag would be very appreciated. Or any resources to find out such info. Also any must see sights apart from the very obvious. Thanks in advance

FYI Cherry Tree not child friendly (after 7.30pm)

Slightly off topic- but we had plumbers round a couple of weeks ago installing a boiler. They over-ran and were still busy at 6-8pm when kids aged 1 and 3 were returning from childminders/nursery. Flat was pretty uninhabitable. Went to the pub but only as we couldn't think of anywhere else to go at that time? Felt we had to explain ourselves to everyone in there as well. Where do people take young children this time of day/early eve if they need to get out for whatever reason? -
Santa grotto... is it too early to mention this?

Apparently most of the ruxley manor slots had gone by September! Ditto places such as Harrods. We are going to one in Norfolk whilst visiting friends over December and that had limited slots left- in early October. Big business apparently this year these grottos.. -
Are you looking for work during school hours?

What is wrong with people on here? Talk about over reactions! -
Would second Dr Doha at lordship lane surgery. Administration wise- sometimes things are left to be desired with the practice. He is excellent though- really listens and takes his time. On the occasions I've seen other doctors in the practice I've also been impressed.

I work in a TB clinic and we still don't have the vaccine despite it being promised this month. Think we are looking at three months realistically. Although it does occur it's pretty uncommon in babies even in relatively high risk areas. Most cases of young babies catching TB are from parents (or other very close family member) who have the pulmonary form of the disease. Please ask if any further particular concerns.

The marlin street apartments near St Paul's are fairly reasonable and nicely kept. Believe you can request single or doubles. They have small kitchens (or kitchenette the word might be). Have used in a large group before and worked well even though the communal space wasn't huge.

I work in the field of TB- it's started being manufactured again so should all be back on track over next 3-4 months. I'd remind the Health visitor/GP that your grandchild will need to be done nearer that time though as there's likely to be a lot of catching up to do. As pickle said though- pretty hard to catch.

No that's great. Thank you. I probably meant a musical when I said not too mainstream. Will have a look at those two later. Thanks again.

Apologies if wrong section. I wondered if anyone could recommend something over the next couple of months? Late birthday present from my mum but am very out of touch with the London theatre scene at the moment. Something not too mainstream but not too fringe as my mum has to travel to and from Essex on the eve. Thanks, Jess

Townsend Montessori Pre-school
Jessicas429 replied to Jessicas429's topic in The Family Room Discussion
That would be great thanks so much -
I wondered if anyone has sent their child to the pre-school class at Townsend Montessori in Forest Hill in the last couple of years. Our son attends a younger class there but would be interested in hearing people's experiences in preparing for school. Due to various circumstances, I haven't applied to a pre-school attached to an actual school and whilst I've been very happy with the nursery so far, I would love to hear from parents who have/recently had a 3+ year old there. Many thanks, Jess

The rose pub on forest hill road has an outdoor area with outbuilding you can use. Pretty sure you can bring own food but you'd need to check that. -

Our lovely ex- childminder has got spaces at the moment. Shelly lives bottom of Sydenham hill near the hornimans museum. She's looked after our son from 8 months and only stopped when I went on maternity leave with my second. any specific questions please ask. Jess -
Don't think you'll have much luck finding anywhere. Apparently only 19 places in London showing it, nearest of which is Belushis London Bridge (tickets all gone). Happy to be proved wrong If anyone knows otherwise? My other half is not working at the last minute and desperate to watch it.

I'd second the recommendations for both the above. Used Gloss in forest hill pre-second baby and agree the guy in there is really lovely. Also very thorough. Think his name might be Jason. Have used Shanie at mani pedi wax club a few times for nails since baby's been born. Again, very thorough professional service and relaxed. Enjoy the peace Jess X

Camber Sands - things to do (for hyper children)
Jessicas429 replied to Belle's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Second the steam railway! It stops in Hythe and dymchuch as well as dungeness. Hythe has a model railway exhibition (from memory) and dymchuch has a nice-ish beach with arcades and the usual around. Not too far from Hastings for a day trip as well with its smugglers and 1066 experiences. X
