Anyone flown with Korean Air?
amydown replied to nicolemodesti's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I'm from Korea originally and used to fly with Korean Air for trips back home (12-hr). Once you get over the language barrier, it should be a comfortable journey like many say above. They are the largest airline in Korea and well established in the far east. We now fly with Asiana Airlines (the second largest airline in Korea after KAL) for trips back home just because the mileage terms are better but they are also regarded as being more friendly back home. If they fly to Austrailia, they could be another option. I flew on my own with D when he was 13m old and just started seperation anxiety. He wouldn't go to anyone but me so the stwardesses were feeding me meals behind the curtains with D in the sling! Admittedly in business class but they really do go the extra mile every time we fly with the little one. -

This is very ignorant of me but is sushi ok for toddlers? I mean, come to think of it, it must be!!! -
I'm really curious now!

Will try them all. Thank you very much!

Does anyone know how I can contact Gumboots in their temporary location? Had our son's name down on waiting list for ages and just wanted to follow up...

Step up stool and potty - recommendations?
amydown replied to amydown's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Lots of good recommendations. Time to get shopping I say! -
They are both really gorgeous!!! Couple of things that immediately spring to my mind are: 1) These would be great as gifts. Would you be able to add gift wrapping option (a small, tasteful box with tissue paper and ribbon)? 2) If I knew someone expecting a baby, I would absolutely love to commission a knitted item for them - perhaps a gift card that allows the parents to commission an item once the baby's born to a certain value?

Thanks both. Incidentally, has anyone come across a training urinal for potty training boys? I'm from Korea originally and it seems potty training urinals is all the rage over there. They are small plastic urinals that can be stuck on a wall/ taken off again, etc etc. I thought it was a really good idea but hubby thinks I've gone bonkers... (Hubby's probably right). I've attached a picture in case anyone's wondering what the heck I'm talking about :)) -
I feel a bit silly asking for recommendation on these items :)) but hey, I've made so many mistakes buying baby/ toddler gear that I can't afford to waste any more money! Do the most basic ones do the job or are Baby Bjorn stuff more expensive for a reason (other than the funky colours)?

Re:LL Carpets, I have found most of the guys really nice and helpful (and extremely dedicated to making sure you get a good service). There is one particular guy who has been quite rude to us a few times both in person and on the phone. This might explain the differing views.

Thanks ladies. Am going to have to get hubby to do some DIY!

Hi all, We have a couple of steep steps with sharp edges in our garden. Has anyone ever come across anything to baby-proof outside space? Have done internet search for rubber edges for steps etc but they all seem to be quite thin plastic stuff rather than more cushiony rubber material. Thoughts and recommendations would be much appreciated.

new mother, What astonishes me is in fact the way some people do not view their nannies as part of their family. Granted we are paying for a form of childcare but our choice to choose a nanny was in most part because we wanted someone that could form a bond with our child the way he would with a family member. Therefore, it is only natural for me to think of our fantastic nanny as part of our family. There is no reason why having an employment contract should stop you from respecting someone the way you would want to be treated. The way that some people talk about them, including your post above, really do shock me. Why all the resentment? There are bad ones and there are good ones like in any profession. How do you know that most of them have few qualifications? Why is it wrong for them to seek better-paid jobs as nannies if pay level in nurseries, etc isn't adequate? You mention above "from friends' experience" so how many nannies have you actually spoken with, how many do you know well enough to make such statements? They have hard jobs. I know I couldn't look after two toddlers 11 hours a day, 4 days, sometimes 5 days a week which is what our nanny does. Our nanny is on time, every day, 7.30am bang on, with the biggest smile ready for my boy. It's certainly harder than my job in the City! How could we not see her as part of our family?!?! There are lots of nannies on this forum too and I hope they do not read your post and think that is what parents round here think. As you say, there are lots of us who appreciate the amazing work that the our nannies do and that is nothing to do with us not having any backbones or self-respect. We just happened to possess the ability to be respectful towards others.

I think it's only fair that classes are paid for. Different opinions but I'm not paying our nanny to "entertain" them but to provide a loving caring environment. It's good for the little ones to do classes, etc and I always think Happy Nanny = Happy Baby (much like Happy Mummy = Happy Baby). Chantelle, ?20 kitty per week for 3 days sounds very high though. We have a ?10/week kitty for two toddlers (14m + 15m) 4 days a week and even that doesn't get spent every week.

I second the ones on ebay posted by Bumpy. In fact, I have been buying them over the internet from Korea and it's actually cheaper to buy them on ebay it seems! They are really fun, looks comfy and washes well. I am a big fan of leggings and tights for my 15m old boy (poor thing) and he practically lives in them.

Is there a Santa parade happening this year?
amydown replied to amydown's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Oh dear. Thanks for the information Dorothy.... -
I thought last year they had one round about this time of the year. Townley Road, Lordship Lane, etc etc. Does anyone know if they are doing it this year too?

Grandparents helping with grandchildren.

Tough one. I agree with couple of posts above that culture does play a role in this. My parents (Korean) would indeed be offended if I stopped them from doing anything. When I stayed out there for 1 month when the baby was 3m old, my Dad took the baby from me every morning from 4am which was an absolute godsend!!!! The only thing I had to do during the entire 1 month was to offer my breast at feeding times. My mother-in-law is very loving but I get the feeling she doesn't want to intefere with my way of doing things and therefore tends to be quite cautious around me I think. In a way, I would actually feel uncomfortable if she started doing my laundry, cooking, changing nappies and everything but a little bit more hands-on help would be nice.. Tough one. -
I am in the process of launching a website selling maternity & breastfeeding clothes. I started working on this in the summer and been working to get it launched (with a baby that doesn't sleep and now having gone back to day job, it keeps getting delayed!!) I have already got a lot of stock currently in my spare room so if you are interested, I could send you a link to the website which is under construction but does have all the images of the clothes I have in stock.

That is indeed a good option if your neighbours want to do it too. Also, designs that can get turned down by planning officers can also go through if you are doing it with the neighbour such as when issues may arise due to right to light (not sure what the technical lingo is). The party wall itself costs around ?7-8k I think so sharing it with your neighbour definitely helps.
