  1. I need wrap around care starting Monday 5th. This can be a permanent role but if you’re only available to help until I find someone permanent, that would be amazing too. I need someone that drives and has their own car. Hours I need are Mon - Fri 7:15-8:30 and then 3:45-6:15. Please get in touch if you’re able to help.
  2. Dear all. I need urgent help with my 7yr old from Monday!! I need someone who can drive and can help with wrap around care. 7-8:30 and 3:45-6:30. Would suit someone looking for a role who is happy to help until their perfect role comes up or would be open to someone who wants the role permanently. For the permanent role I can gntee 20hours per week throughout the year. We live in East Dulwich Please get in touch. Thank you!!
  3. Hi there. I’m still looking just in case anyone new is now available. I have flexibility. I can add hours if needed. But I do need a someone who can do: 7am - 8:30am and 3:45 - 6/6:30 at least 3-4 days a week during term-time and has availability to do a few more (if they’d like) during school holidays. I have one junior school aged daughter and am looking for someone who would love to become part of our family. A car driver is preferred but not essential. All the best
  4. I am looking for a part time Nanny to start in January. I live in SE22 and my daughter goes to school close to Dulwich Village. I ideally need someone to help with wrap around care during termtime and a mix of full days and wrap around care during school holidays. Hours can be negotiated but I would really like someone who could do Mon - Fri 7-8:30am and 3:30-6/6:30pm during termtime and then between 5 to 11 hours 5 days a week during school holidays. I also need someone who can drive and has their own car. It’s a really difficult ask and I’m open to discussion on hours as I can look to utilise school wrap around care or I can consider offering longer hours if that’s more appealing. Please message me if you’re interested and I’ll happily share more information about what I am looking for.
  5. I advertised some free bits on the ED Mums Facebook page and had a lady come collect the other day. When she was leaving she asked me if I owned the (rather nice and expensive) car parked outside my house and when I said no she asked who did. I said I didn?t know but she persisted and asked if it belonged to one of my neighbours. Maybe I am being paranoid but if anyone else has experienced the same thing then please drop me a private message. Thanks.
  6. I could be wrong but do check around Henslowe Road. There is a cat very similar to Cheetah that lives on the road but he has the end of his tail missing. This one came up to my door yesterday, pretty keen to come in and I noticed his tail was longer and I did wonder if it could be Cheetah but thought Cheetah was a lighter tabby until I've just checked the pictures now. I'll let you know if I see him again
  7. Question for James Barber given the most recent comment above. Put aside the 16 people losing garages and the horrendous parking issues this development will cause, did you actually spend any time understanding the needs and lives of those directly adjacent to the site when you proposed it for development? If not, maybe it would be courteous to spend some time with them to fully understand how your proposal is going to impact them.
  8. This is not about people v cars, this is people v people. If it was simply about crushing cars to make room for housing or building on disused land for people that need housing, then it would be a clear cut decision. However peoples lives are being impacted negatively by this proposal, some far more than others. There is zero consideration for the genuinely vulnerable families either side of the proposed site whose lives will be heavily and negatively impacted. There is zero consideration for parking. I can confirm that the new houses come with no provision for parking and no solution has been suggested for the people that currently use the garages for parking. There is zero consideration for the 16 people that pay rent and actually use the garages (some for over 20+ years). Ultimately, 3-4 new homes will not even make a minor dent in the 11,000 new homes target but it will massively impact many local families in numerous ways and Southwark needs to start considering these people too because collectively they should matter. It should not be all about meeting targets.
  9. James - will you be there this evening given you proposed this site? It would be very good to hear how you plan to deal with the parking issues that will be caused by this development (you are probably well aware of proposed traffic calming islands for Barry Road which will put additional pressure on the already horrendous parking on Henslowe Road - which was created in the first place by previous developments). I would also be keen to hear your thoughts on the negative impact it will have on the lives of the 2 very vulnerable families that live directly beside the site. I wholeheartedly support new housing for those in need but it somewhat loses its value when it negatively impacts more people than it actually benefits.
  10. I found my share on here but had some good interest via childcare.co.uk too My two pieces of advice would be to give plenty of detail about what you are looking for and I am not sure where you live but shares generally like to be close together so advertise on any local forums (if you're not based in ED) As Nina says - hang in there.
  11. The issue seems to be that Southwark Council have set themselves a ridiculous goal of building 11,000 new homes and the only way they are going to get anywhere close to achieving this is by building on any bit of land they can find regardless of any disruption or negative impact it will have upon the existing residents and community. Now I am all for ensuring that everyone has a home regardless of their background, income etc but what I don't understand is why councils are being forced to build on any scrap of inappropriate land they can find, when I drive through Battersea (which I appreciate isn't in Southwark)and see massive private developments being built on a huge scale. If this land is so perfect for development and on such a huge scale, why is none of it being set aside for council housing schemes instead of for providing luxury accommodation for foreign investors, most of whom will leave said properties empty for many years and then sell them to make a tidy profit further exasperating the London property market???!!!!
  12. My daughter has a different surname to me and I always take a copy of her birth certificate but have never once been asked to provide anything.
  13. I spoke to Danielle at Southwark this morning. The letter is the first stage of the consultation, but by the sounds of it (and this is only my take on what I have been told) if you would like your opinion to be heard prior to a decision being made as to whether the land in Henslowe should be developed for additional housing then you need to get in touch asap. It seems the plan is not to consult residents further prior to the decision, more to involve them 'if' the decision to build on the land goes ahead. I pushed for an answer as to when the decision would be made and was told in around 3 months, although Danielle said that anyone who had questions/comments should aim to go back to her in the next few weeks. So for any resident/garage owner that would like their voice heard, please get in touch with Danielle directly as per the details on the letter.
  14. Have any new dates been set for meet ups at all? I am due my first baby in Aug and would love to meet up if you have any evening/weekend events organised?
  15. I registered for postal vote and recieved a card through for local elections (which I returned) but nothing at all for the general election (which I am told should have been in the same pack). Anyone know if I can just turn up with ID to vote today??
  16. Hi all, Is is possible for someone to post meet ups on this thread please?? I am not a user of facebook (I know, shock, horror!) so would really appreciate it as I would love to join you! Thanks!!
  17. Went there just the once. My partner found a long hair in his pasta and complained. We were very impressed when the chef personally came out to apologise, only instead of apologising she said that 'unfortunately in hot, sweaty, busy kitchens, these things happened'. We never went back.
  18. Thank you Jane1. I live in that area and very much appreciate the heads up. Whether you approached these women or not is inconsequential, it's the fact that people are rifling through bins that is the important fact here. I'll certainly keep my eyes peeled and pass on the message.
  19. I used to live in Harfield Gardens (a small council estate off of Camberwell Grove). Great flat, great neighbours but Southwark Council = nightmare from hell as a landlord. I lived there for 6 years and was hit with two massive bills during that period 1) for major works - replacement windows/new roof/door entry system etc and 2) for a new heating system. Problem is, the Council are obliged to maintain their estates to a certain standard which means doing some sort of works/refurbishments pretty regularly. As a private tenant of a Council owned block you are bound by contract to contribute towards these bills whether you want the work to be carried out or not (we all know how the Council like to spend money on pointless things in the lead up to year end to ensure they get decent budgets for the following year). In my personal experience I am convinced that Private tenants ultimately end up partially subsidising the Council tenants, it's the only way to explain the size of the bills I received versus the works being done. I would avoid like the plague!
  20. I am 100% with you on the pavement issue. In March this year Southwark Council spent (no doubt) a small fortune digging up the existing speed bumps on Henslowe Road to replace them with full width speed bumps. A total waste of time - the original bumps were perfectly fine and it's a one way road that's not a cut through so traffic flow is extremely low. If speeding was an issue with the old bumps the new ones certainly made no difference. The pavements which are in a terrible state were totally overlooked. In September this year, Southwark Council dug up all of the new speed bumps they'd laid in March and re put down identical speed bumps???? The pavements, yup, they're still in a terrible state. Excellent use of tax payers money - well done Southwark and well done Lib Dems for failing to address the really issues in ED as ever. Oh and thanks to you as well for the pointless double yellow lines at the end of the street. We never had a parking issue on Henslowe Road, we do now!!!
  21. If it has shut I'll be gutted - best Sunday roast in Dulwich in my opinion. I was forced to go to the Clockhouse this Sunday as the Patch was closed (GE/Franklins had run out, Palmerston stopped serving) and it was nowhere near as good. Must admit the service was a bit shoddy on occasions but I've never had any complaint about food.
  22. New tactic being used by Winkworth to make people believe that house prices are still at May/June highs = leave a house as 'under offer' on your website even though the buyer retracted their offer 2 weeks ago and the seller has taken the house off the market market. Genius. Fool people into believing you've managed to sell a house at a super high level when in fact you haven't.
  23. If you can get passed the receptionists to actually see a doctor then yes, I think they are good. I have no complaint about the doctors at all. The issue is with the people on reception and I can speak from experience. Just over a week ago I made an urgent call to the medical centre and requested a conversation with a doctor (I was reluctant to call 999 if I didn't need to and a conversation with a doctor would answer this). The lady that answered was helpful and tried, unsuccessfully, to connect me to a doctor but promised me a call back. I waited for over an hour and with my pain increasing I sent my boyfriend round on foot to try and get some sort of follow up. He was met by a belligerent, rude receptionist who denied all knowledge of a call from me (she hollered out to the back room to check with her colleagues) and told him as there was no record of my call I would not be receieving a call back from 'no doctor, no matter how urgent it was and I'd have to queue for an appointment the next day like everyone else'. So he came home, we called 999 and I was rushed into hospital where I spent the next 6 days extremely poorly. When a rude, unqualified receptionist has the power to decided the urgency of a patients need and can dictate whether or not they get to speak to a doctor then I think we're all in trouble.
  24. What would have been useful, rather than traffic calming based on a census carried out 'before' a major road, which made Henslowe a rat run, was blocked off and digging up road bumps that kept the speeds to an average of a quite respectable 21.3mph and replacing them with bumps that you can drive over comfortably at 30mph and creating a dangerous and pointless cycle lane and taking away parking by painting double yellows where they weren't needed instead of painting them where they are needed, would have been to repair the badly damaged and hazardous pavements on Henslowe!! Now that would have been a genius idea. James please do confirm the cost of the works on Henslowe, I'm eager to know exactly how much was spent so I can get even more wound up.
  25. Thanks for the reply James. The last traffic count is irrelevant. The vast majority of those cars would be the ones turning off of Peckham Rye onto Upland/Frien and then cutting down Henslowe. The Peckham Rye/Upland/Frien juctions were closed off in Nov 2011 (after the last count). Right now, the only reason for anyone to cut down Henslowe would be to get to Underhill Rd if Barry Road was shut - otherwise you'd just stay on Barry Road. My point about speed bumps is we already have them and given that your census shows that the average speed down Henslowe was 21.3mph, they appear to have been doing their job quite nicely. Oh and you can still go 30mph quite happily over the new ones so I have no idea how they'll change anything. The cycle lane is not only pointless but it's actually dangerous for cyclists. It's going against the traffic, which is fine, but it's been marked up on the right handside of the road (if you're driving the right way). Being a one way road this means cars that are parked on the right will need to swing across the cycle lane to get out. Being right hand drive, you cannot actually see what's coming towards you until you're already in the cycle lane which is too late for the poor cyclist speeding down the new lane without a care in the world. As I mentioned, cyclists rarely use Henslowe anyway and surely the safest place for them to be is in the middle of the road to avoid exactly what I describe above. They can move over if they see a vehicle coming down the road. Why do they need a cycle lane - it's common sense. I'm not a cyclist, but if I was I certainly wouldn't use the new lane. The only thing that needed to be changed was at the junction of Henslowe and Underhill where it's a nightmare pulling out because parked cars on Underhill mean you can't see anything. They have painted double yellows on the right but on the left they have done nothing meaning you still cant see a darn thing. What they have done however is painted double yellows at the end of Henslowe Road where there was no issue with visibility and have thus only succeeded in taking away valuable parking spaces. So to summarise, new speed bumps - pointless, new cycle lane - pointless and dangerous, new double yellows on Henslowe - pointless and have now created a parking issue. Exactly how much did these works cost???
