It seems to be the same all over East Dulwich and in Nunhead. Last week, at the junction of Underhill Rd and Upland Rd, people were having to walk in the middle of the road - trying to avoid cars and the P13 bus. Summer is coming, so next it will be the gas works that were not finished last year.

"Off with their heads"!

A house on Rodwell Road was haunted by the ghost of an elderly lady, who used to sit by the front window and drink her mug of tea, which she used to place on an old Edwardian table. When the new occupiers moved in, they inherited the said table and kept it in the same place. However, whenever the lady of the house went to dust and polish the table, a round mark would appear on it and the temperature of the room would, always, drop. This carried on for quite a while, until the table was put into the back room, upstairs.... where the mark was still known to appear, when there was only one person in the house and their name would be called out, whilst they were sitting downstairs by the front window, drinking a cup of coffee or tea! The occupiers of the house, were only told about the old lady and her daily ritual several years later, when they had a visit from her son. Apparently, she died in her chair, looking out of the window, with her china mug on the table beside her.

How intriguing. Do you think the newsagent is aware of what 'lays' behind this advert-come-massage-come-message?

The 'top men' are getting richer, the addicts getting poorer - the grave yards getting fuller.

Does East Dulwich have any resident ghosts? Are there any haunted buildings/houses/shops in the area? Anyone ever seen a ghost or been effected by super natural goings-on? Please, do tell.

It gives an air of grandeur and mystery - and shuts out the riff raff!

How absolutely awful! What a terrible thing to have happened - obviously, those of us who read the newspaper, at the time and lived in the vicinity, had no knowledge of the background to this story. Thank you for informing us. On a lighter note, I presume, that you were a little too young to have known about our 'lady of the night'?

The exaggeration was, obviously, on the part of the newspaper - and they printed some sensational stuff. Was there ever any apology/retraction?

It was common knowledge, that a 'lady of the night' used to offer her services from a flat in ED that was in the vicinity of a church, where the vicar was exposed - in a Sunday tabloid - as dressing up in leather and entertaining young rent boys, with the head master of a nearby school.

Is it the Rod Stewart look-a-like that walks his dog around Forest Hill Road and shops in the C0-OP?

Well, spiritually speaking - he is free! May he rest in peace.

One day, whilst in an elevator at the Grosvenor House Hotel, the doors swung open and Peter Graves stepped in - and yes, those immortal words were uttered - politely acknowledged, by the great man, with courtesy, grace and a lovely smile - even though, he must have heard it all a thousand times before.

Way too expensive and I don't think that a lot of people could afford the prices in Sydenham either. Just how far out does a person need to go? Back to the womb?
