  1. Saw the actress from The Thin Blue Line, the blonde lady who was Rowan Atkinson's character's girlfriend?

    Dozey Neighbours

Thames Water says they can't do this, but Neighbour Number Two can - with a note, left for returning Neighbour Number One. Let's see what happens.........? By the way, has anyone got any tales regarding a Dozey Neighbour?

    Dozey Neighbours

    Music to my ears.
  4. Now the Fish has a love - if not necessity - for water, but too much of it in the wrong place is not welcome. The Fish came back, last night, to find the garden looking like a rice field. Apparently, Neighbour number one has left a hose on (Friday night) and Neighbour number two, noticed that their garden was saturated with water (Saturday am). Suffice to say, there is "nobody at the inn" and Thames Water cannot access the property, without permission. Apparently, Southwark's Environmental Health may have the power to gain access into the property - their website is down and it's too early to telephone! And no, cannot get over the fence - it's far too high, plus we cannot tresspass!Well, another few inches and the cats will be swimming to the kitchen door and, heaven help us, if it rains. The dead floating slugs, may just swing it - and the council will decide that this is an environmental crisis and come to the rescue, forthwith......? Oh, happy days.
  5. Seems like Mr Flynn - actor - from 'The Bill' - was having a spot of car trouble this morning.
  6. Saw a young lady, walking down Lordship Lane last week, carrying a canvas bag that had I (heart) East Dulwich. It looked really good. She told me it was her own one-off design and she'd had it for quite a while - and carries it around all the time - and it's been all over the country. Now, that's putting E D on the map.
  7. If you can by-pass all the dog poo!
  8. Krystals - the Chemist - in Nunhead Lane is a great!
  9. Wasn't she married to Ralph Fiennes, the actor?
  10. It's going to be a Birthing Centre - for the re-birth of Elvis Presley! The time is nigh. Ha, ha, ha.
  11. To read about War Time Life on the TCCA website, you have to search in under 'About Us' and look under War Heroes. So, that's www.tcca.org, About Us, War Heroes. These are just two of the gentlemen who participated in the films and book.
  12. I've just finished reading a book, borrowed from a friend and reluctantly given back, entitled 'Departures and Arrivals', which was published by the TCCA (Turkish Cypriot Community Association) and is part of the Turkish Cypriot Heritage Organisation's documentation of the Turkish Cypriots who came to England between 1934 and 1963. This book is only one part of a project, which includes a film - "I Used To Live In Cyprus", and a booklet/film entitled 'Wartime Life', which I believe is accessible through www.tcca.org, under the past projects. Photographs and information can be found at www.turkishcypriotheritage.org, but I think you may be able to purchase copies of the book and access information from the T.C.C.A? Someone said that these books were distributed to libraries, so there may be copies in Southwark? Anyway, back to the book, it is an informing piece of social history and anyone who comes from an ethnic background will relate to the experiences and feelings of the people who relay their stories. I was very fortunate enough to have been to one of the exhibitions, last year, and - also - saw the film. That was excellent. Most of the people who took part in this project hail from Southwark and have links to our area, so it is extra interesting and I love the introduction by Dr Tuncer, who used to work at Kings College Hospital. Also, one of the participants, Mr Suha Faiz, is a writer who has translated the works of Yunus Emre.
  13. What a shame, that other people may have to suffer as a consequence of such mindless thugery.
  14. Unfortunately, it is not. If these thugs had to walk around the streets, in all weathers, with heavy sacks full of mail and earn what these people (who we all rely on, no matter what) do, they might think twice - which I very much doubt, as it's much easier to attack and steal for a living!
  15. Soft touches for the gutless thugs who prey on hardworking postmen/milkmen!
  16. Also heard, that deliveries to 'estates' may stop and that the police will patrol the area, whilst postal deliveries are made?
  17. I was told it was on Henslow(e)? Road, as was the previous incidents, and that the postman has sustained head injuries and a broken leg.
  18. A serious assault and robbery took place, this morning, on a postal worker in East Dulwich. This person was badly beaten and some items of mail were stolen. Apparently, it is one of several attacks in the past week, which has resulted in the hospitalisation of the latest victim. Has anyone else heard anything?
  19. You are the missing 'extra' for East Dulwich, the new soap opera.
  20. Forget East Enders, how about East Dulwich as a soap opera? Anyone up for suggesting the first scene?
  21. Is that the one who had an affair with the brother of the cafe owner, Ali? Who's wife was Sue and the baby died? Obviously, in East Enders.
  22. Is James Nesbitt the new 'Crazy Nurse' of East Dulwich?
  23. James Nesbit is a very talented actor and nice man who is, always, polite and willing to stop for a chat and give his autograph to those who ask. As is Timothy Spall and, of course, the very lovely Jennie Eclair.
  24. Well, why not? Who knows what they'll unearth!
  25. That's really eerie, as I remember my neighbour telling me that when she was a cleaner at Dulwich Hospital - in the 1960's - she twice saw the coat and legs of what looked like a soldier, suspended through the ceiling! She didn't say anything, at the time, because she thought people would think she was mad. Since the new occupant moved into the flat, she's been complaining about the smell of tobacco - and I haven't got the heart to tell her that the man who lived there, before her, used to smoke a pipe - and was found dead in his kitchen.
