Hello, There will be a meeting with Helen Hayes (our local MP) about how she can support parents who have delayed-start summer born children in school in Southwark. We are meeting Helen with some other parents on Friday morning to discuss the issue. The meeting is at 9.30am on Friday at Kingswood House, Seeley Drive, Kingswood Estate, SE21 8QN It would be great to have a good number of parents there. Please let me know if you would like to come so we have an idea of numbers. Many thanks, Elizabeth Cohen

We've just bought a roof box for our car. We are wondering whether it's a good idea to leave it on our car 24/7 (with no valuables in) or whether it's better to store it in our already pretty full garden shed. Does anyone know if there is a history of roof box break-ins in the area? Thanks!

Toddlers and tantruns -what to read?
elizamic replied to Hickory's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Toddler calm by Sarah Ockwell Smith. They have a copy at the library and is amazing for everything from 'tantrums' to sleep, to sharing. Most helpful book I've read since having babies - two toddler boys 15 months apart! -
Another SAHM in East Dulwich with two boys - one 3 in July and the other 18 months. Once they were walking we spent a lot of our time in the park/garden where they will happily explore for hours. Also Peckham Rye stay and play is good and FREE (Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9.30 at the children's centre by the park cafe) - a good indoor space with crafts/messy play and toys and lots of stuff outside. Sometimes I have to stop myself going to too many groups as I think the time at home playing and reading in a calm and nurturing environment is also very important for them. Children don't really socialise that much anyway until they are nearly 3 and if you go to playgrounds/groups they will be around children often enough. Relish the time you have together! I hope you enjoy the transition.

Acappella singing group for mothers
elizamic replied to elizamic's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Of course that would be fine! -
I have been thinking for a while of starting an informal singing group for mothers. It would be a small group held in my house, and we would sing rounds, lullabies, traditional songs etc unaccompanied. Mothers would be welcome to bring any children that they are looking after along with them, though they would be responsible for them of course. The weekly session would last about an hour, including a tea (and cake?!) break. You wouldn't have to be an experienced singer to join as we would start with simple pieces and slowly work our way up. If you are interested please comment below - I want to know if there is enough interest before committing to this. Thanks

Thank you, that would be great. I would love a cargo-bike too but they are ridiculously expensive and wouldn't actually fit through our front door, which would be a problem!

I have two young children, 2 and a half and 16 months old, and am considering a bike trailer as a form of transport and exercise. I cycled a lot as a student and really enjoy it as a form if exercise so it would be great to start again with toddlers in tow. Trailers are a bit of an investment, so I want to make sure it will suit us and be realistic. Does anyone in the area use a bike trailer? Would you have any advice or even be willing to let us come and take a look at how it works/try it out? We also live in a ground floor flat with a fairly narrow door so it would have to be foldable - are there any models that fold up and down easily? Does it take a long time to attach to the bike each time you go out if folding down? Also, is anyone looking to sell on a double trailer? Thanks

Hello everyone, I am new to the area and have only just discovered the forum so apologies for joining late! I am due on the 30th July and it is my first baby. I am not around on the 19th but would love to come to another meet up to meet some other new mums to be and share stories and questions. I hope the meet goes well. Elizabeth x
