Too many people not taking this seriously. Sunbathing, going for a leisurely stroll for coffee/ice creams, drinking beers in the park, garden parties and BBQs, people walking side-by-side on the pavement and not making space for others. Probably the same people constantly moaning on social media about this is all the Tories fault.

LOL. Sounds like nobody else had the issue - which is a relief really. I had a suspicion, which has probably turned out to be wrong.

Has anybody else used a local business recently for a home delivery, and subsequently had their card used fraudulently? I'm struggling to think how else it might have happened. Please PM if you've had a similar experience - but don't post any business names here. Apologies if it's a false alarm.

Why are non essential shops still open?!
fishbiscuits replied to JAC88's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think it's within the regulations, so I don't think reporting them is the right thing to do. It might not be within some people's interpretation of the spirit of the rules (myself included) but there's not much we can do about it. I don't blame a business for wanting to continue trading where possible. -
Non essential shops are still open - why?! (duplicate)
fishbiscuits replied to JAC88's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Where do you draw the line, though? If an ice cream parlour can remain open, then why can't every shop? -

Compared to what I drive, a Maserati sounds rather nice!! Saying that, I've not really had to drive since the "lockdown". Have avoided the big supermarkets, etc.

Many Asian countries are more habitually inclined to wear face masks when they're unwell, or "something's going round". I don't know if it maybe goes back to SARS, or maybe some more fundamental/cultural reason. But they would have certainly had much more of an established supply chain pre-COVID.

Yeah I think that's why the govt have not recommended them all along - because we just don't have the supply. For a while I believed the official advice (i.e. that they don't really help), but this seems to be contrary to what every other country is saying/doing!! I think we'll have to find a way of procuring (or manufacturing) huge numbers of them before people start going back to work.

Expecting people to get their exercise on an unlit grass common at night is completely unrealistic, and probably unsafe. I am already being considerate by a) only going out at night, b) giving other people space. If runners are not making efforts to give you space and forcing you to move out of the way, then clearly that is wrong. Nobody should be expected to "leap out of the way". In fact, I have experienced the same myself with other runners refusing the deviate from their path, so I am not without sympathy. I simply think that my efforts to make space should be reciprocated in some small way, where possible. I am not sure if you agree with this point or not. Because in addition to being very rude, you are making a "straw-man" argument, i.e. arguing against different points to the ones I have actually made.

lindylou Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > So, why can't you run in a park. I run at night, when hardly anyone is around. Parks are not open at night. I try to avoid going out during the day. Other people I encounter are almost always also out for exercise of some description. Why do I sound selfish? Because I think that if I've ran out into the road to give someone space, that person (be it a pedestrian or another runner) should also shift over a few inches in the other direction if they are able to? Perhaps you could clarify whether you believe this expectation constitutes being "selfish to the extreme"?

When I'm out for my regular run, and there's someone else using the pavement, I run well out into the road to make space. But the reality is that 90% of other pavement users (walkers, runners, dog-walkers) just do not reciprocate this in any way whatsoever... not even moving 1ft towards the inside of the pavement. Some even continuing to walk side-by-side. Now, if everyone here complaining about runners/joggers are really in that precious minority who cooperate to some extent with others in the interests of social distancing, then great. We are on the same side. But if you're in the vast majority that just walk on down the middle of the pavement, arrogantly expecting other pavement users to be solely responsible for keeping distance, then frankly you're part of the problem.

Don't understand what you're getting at there, Angelina. You reach adulthood when you're accountable for your own actions. If you feel inclined to report them to their parents, then they're probably not adults.

Stay your distance (including in Dulwich park)
fishbiscuits replied to Malarkey's topic in The Lounge
I would have thought that in Dulwich Park, reserving the bridleway for joggers would be a good idea, leaving BAGS of room for everyone else. However, I am not running during the daytime, there are just too many people around. -

Prime Minister moved to Intensive Care - non political

Yep. NHS hospital, NHS staff. But inevitably in a (well-guarded) private room, with multiple nursing staff dedicated solely to him. -
I need a small piece of glass cutting approx 8cm x 4cm
fishbiscuits replied to kingkev's topic in The Lounge
Just buy a glass cutter tool (?10 or so from Amazon, etc), score with steel rule or other straight-edge, and snap. It is similar to cutting tiles - but a bit more dangerous, so wear thick gloves!! -
Of all the recent behaviour I've seen... people having picnics or sunbathing in the park, people popping out for a takeaway coffee or ice creams, garden parties and BBQs, groups of friends out together, people walking side by side and hogging the whole pavement, groups having drinkies in their front yard (less than 1m from the pavement), taking the bus when you could walk for 20-30 minutes. And according to this forum, runners bombing down Lordship Lane during shopping hours. Cycling doesn't seem like our biggest problem.

Let us all celebrate the birth of Ava Florence Whitfield

A lovely thought. I know people expecting any day now, it must be ever so stressful for them. Great to see it worked out OK for these guys. -
Just a short video every day (5-10 minutes) where they read a section from a book, then ask the kids to write a few sentences about it, maybe draw a picture, and do a very simple maths exercise. We then send in photos of the work - but it's not marked. However, this is only year 1! They've also given everyone a textbook to work through, and recommended a number of educational apps.

Susan - yes, there have been plenty of times when I've stepped well into the road, for example, but the effort to make space simply isn't reciprocated. So frustrating. I think you did the right thing by calling them out - more people should do it.

Somebody round our way did a similar thing on Saturday afternoon... set up a big PA playing pop music for an hour or two. I imagine it was well intentioned, but struck me as rather presumptuous, inappropriate even. There are all sorts of reasons why people might not want to be "cheered up" by very loud music at the moment.

Sephiroth Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Why do you think it's not justified? Not looking > to argue - just curious. As deaths rise daily and > we look at other countries, as well as forecasts > how is it not justified? To clarify - "further restrictions" is not necessarily the same as a "hard lockdown". There are further measures the govt could impose while still allowing outdoor exercise within reason. I believe the physical and mental health benefits of a bit of exercise (and seeing other people out and about, even at a distance) are really, really important. And I also believe (or hope?) the daily number of new hospital admissions can be flattened soon, without completely taking away that allowance. But maybe by restricting it to certain times of day, or to certain designated areas. KidKruger Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > funny, I read your > post to my missus, who straight-off said,'they're > just being a dick' !) Well she's probably right, but I still felt the need to semi-apologise in advance. Feel free to disregard. I interpreted your point as saying that you were in favour of a hard lockdown, which just seemed confusing coming from someone still using the park. Walking the dog puts it into context I suppose. I think there's going to be a lot of dogs round here going nuts if they're locked up at home all day, I wouldn't like to see that happening... (but am not dog person myself, as such).
