Attempted mugging on adult near Goose Green roundabout

I'm with you there. I actually think it was a really strange thing to say... we all handle dangerous situations in our own way, and speculative talk of giving them what for (*does comedy fisticuffs stance*) isn't really helpful to anyone. Glad your brother is OK, at the end of the day that's by far the most important thing. -
JohnL Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > She kept on asking who are we > trying to keep out that's worse effected than us Yeah but that's completely missing the point. People travelling around WILL spread it, whether or not the country they're coming from is worse affected than UK.

My thoughts are that 2m was never really practical, and in my experience, almost nobody shows a willingness to stick to it anyway. Even out in the open, almost nobody shows any spatial awareness - I usually step into the road to give other pedestrians space, while the other person ambles on down the middle of the pavement completely oblivious to social distancing, staring at their phone, or holding hands and chatting with their partner. Drivers - instead of slowing while I give other pedestrians space - often prefer to beep (or even wind their windows down and shout). You think you're keeping 2m away from other shoppers in the supermarkets? You're kidding yourself. Look what happened when pubs, coffee shops, ice cream parlours starting relaxing and opening up for takeaway business. People queueing down the street, barely 1m from each other. Let alone 2. Can you imagine what will happen when pubs actually re-open properly? As for key workers using public transport every day. They're lucky if they can avoid body contact!! Anti-racism protests going on around the country. A cause which I agree with unequivocally. But also a stark message that social distancing and stopping the spread of covid is no longer #1 priority for many people. Wearing face coverings in enclosed spaces, and washing/sanitising your hands regularly is much more important. 2m distancing was always a farce.

Got a ticket yesterday (forgot to renew my residents permit) so safe to say the wardens are back...

I don't mind having a few foxes around, but they're wild animals, and they need to be self-sufficient, with sustainable population levels. If you start feeding them, you are encouraging a surplus population. Discouraging their natural hunter scavenger instincts. Eroding their natural fear of humans. Inviting them to damage your property, scatter your rubbish, dig up your garden, and literally shit on your doorstep.

I also kind of like the idea of putting it in a museum... lying on it's side, complete with graffiti. With an explanation of both the slave trade and the BLM movement. Melting it down is fine too, though...

Can't she just get in the car with her Mum back to Bromley? Then go back to Leeds again by train the next day. Send on essential possessions by courier.

NO

I'm really not sure, personally. I am unequivocally in agreement with the cause, and appreciate your passionate defence of the protests. A big part of me is appreciative, thankful even for the protests. But when it comes to timeliness... we still have hundreds of Covid deaths every day. Will these protests (directly or indirectly) lead to more people getting severely ill, dying even? TBH plenty of people were angry about crowds at the beach, sports in the park, and street parties with only a vague pretense of "social distancing". So I think accusations of hypocrisy would probably be misplaced. Also the protesters are from varied backgrounds and ethnicities, so it's not about getting angry at black people.

Well from one of the Twitter links posted by Fox, it seems that the demonstrators were largely white. So if the subtext is that black south Londoners are somehow akin to "turkeys voting for Christmas", then... no. But maybe, if we're going to have this discussion, we might want to ask ourselves how we ended up with a society in which minorities were more likely to be working in front line jobs, while white people were more likely to be in office based jobs (currently safely working from home, thank you very much). But nevertheless.. as I said before, controlling the spread of the virus is vitally important, and sometimes in life you need to be a bit pragmatic. I'm disgusted by Police brutality and racism (and yes of course it is very much an issue in the UK too), but it's a battle that will unfortunately still need to be fought for many years to come.

But you know... social distancing is still important too. People are still dying (several hundred a day in UK).

Thanks Fox. That will be it. Doesn't seem very sensible, does it.

Lots of shouting, cheering and whooping (if not on the Rye itself, then certainly near it... NW corner). Clearly a sizable gathering. Cars beeping as they drive past. And now there's a helicopter hovering overhead - wonder if the Police have broken it up?

Two week quaranteen for travellers ariving in the UK
fishbiscuits replied to malumbu's topic in The Lounge
I think your assertion is logically flawed, malumbu. We can absolutely reduce the spread with a quarantine program. The only problem I have with the policy is that it should have been introduced months ago. Greece and Spain have already flattened the infection rate fairly succesfully. And the summer tourism season is vitally important to their economies. Sorry to stray from the narrative, but it has nothing really to do with Brexit or Dominic Cummings. -
Recommendation Required For Decent Route By Car For Testing Eyesight
fishbiscuits replied to KidKruger's topic in The Lounge
I suggest hammering it down the A20/M20 to the coast, the roads should still be fairly quiet, and you should be able to reach 120mph no problem. If you can avoid cars and other objects at that speed, then I'd say your eyes are OK. -
"Boo for Boris" is pretty lame. It's just another excuse to flash your political cred in front of your neighbours. He's an appalling man and a crap PM, but outside of pantomime season, booing people doesn't really achieve much.

A small plea from a local corona sufferer
fishbiscuits replied to Sophia Sophia's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The OP comes across as a bit unrealistic to me. I'd agree that lawnmowers, power tools, etc before 8am or so is antisocial. But 10am? Not so much. And I think kids playing out in the garden any time between breakfast and around 8pm is pretty much fair game, to be honest. Especially at the moment, as they're mostly bored out of their brains with few opportunities to burn off their energy. If they really are consistently "shouting at the top of their voices" then yeah the parents should really tell them to pipe down, but hard to say if this is exaggerated or not... -

are any toilet facilities open in Dulwich park?
fishbiscuits replied to chaz123's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
People are really not supposed to be going out for long periods of time. Do your exercise and go home again. Go to the toilet before you leave home, FFS! Most of us can hold it in for a while! If you have an actual medical condition, then you have my honest sympathy, but I'm not sure what the answer is other than to unfortunately limit your activity even more than the rest of us. -

I had a look on their website, it sounds amazing. Will have to give it a go. DulwichFox Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > What is the point of ordering a meal that you have to cook yourself. ?? I suppose the logic is that it's nicer than something that was cooked half an hour ago and has been sitting in a plastic container and swished around by a delivery driver. But I too would be interested to hear how much cooking is involved.

If Corbyn had been in charge, we'd be in exactly the same situation. The only difference is that my social media would be full of posts praising our PMs leadership, compassion, etc...
-
If we're going to toss around anecdotal observations, I've seen far more black people wearing face masks than white people.
-
Yeah of course that's one scenario, SB. But anything that might force someone to move off the pavement and into the road isn't really ideal. Kids don't usually have the awareness to cooperate effectively with pedestrians. (to state the obvious.. I am not "demonizing" anyone, I like kids. I like cyclists. But just not convinced kids riding bikes on the pavement is compatible with social distancing)
