It's certainly good to know this isn't a random incident! Definitely sounds as though the place need's renaming Fabric Towers as suggested by HonaloochieB :) The words screw and loose spring to mind!

The problem will be that you havent had credit therefore there is no proof how you manage it ie that you pay on time etc. Ludicrous I know but that is how these things work. The more credit cards you have, the better your credit is provided you pay on time!!! Beware though, the more credit checks you have in a short period weakens your credit record!!

Had you have been carrying a bucket of water to deal with such situations you could have distracted the bouncer by drenching him and made a swift escape, avoiding said beating ;-)

hmmm I grew up in North Kent so not a Londoner but only a stone's throw away. I have been in London for two years now and do love it, however, if I had children I wouldnt want to bring them up here so can understand why people move away. The issue from my childless perspective is education.... I am not a fan of private/public schools, but, from what I have read / seen it would seem that the infant junior schools round here are great but the senior schools leave a lot to be desired unless you go private.

Has anyone had any trouble with the chap who owns / runs Fabric on LL? My house mate wanted to put a post on here after her experience yesterday, I suggested it wasn't a good idea as it was a negotive experience and she is only a lurker to the forum, hence my posting instead. I am also rather dubious about adding it myself given that it involves dogs which are another controversial issue...... but it all was rather odd and I feel a certain amount of responsibility given that it was my dog. Anyway here goes! *ducks for cover * My house mate was enjoying the sun yesterday, her and her friend took my two dogs for a long walk, having walked round Peckham Rye and Dulwich Park they stopped off at the Chandelier for a drink. The Chandelier staff were happy to have the dogs sat outside and brought them both water which they happily lapped up. Upon leaving Chandelier and walking back up Lordship Lane, one of the dogs urinated on the pavement, outside the barber shop just before Fabric. The shops at that end of the lane are quite set back from the pavement and have walled "gardens" separating the shop and a reasonabe garden size area from the pavement. The dog was on the pavement when this happened not anywhere near the shop or its shop front "garden". The chap in Fabric came out and asked my friend if she was going to clear it up, at first she thought he was joking but apologised in true British style. People in the neighbouring shops who had witnessed what had happened were laughing at the whole incident, which reinforced her initial reaction that he was joking. The man in Fabric got irate and demanded that my friend cleared it up and told her he was going to call the police. My friend realised that he wasnt joking after all and said that it would dry very quickly in the sun, she would happily clear it up but as she didnt carry a bucket of water around could he loan her a bucket of water. He wouldnt do so and just continued to shout at her. Eventually realising that reasoning with him / request for water were getting her nowhere she lwalked away. He left his shop (unattended?) and followed her, continually shouting abuse and threatening her with the police. Eventually to placate him she borrowed a bucket of water from the launderette and washed the already nearly dry wet patch on the pavement. I for one cannot stand it when dogs foul on the pavement and owners fail to pick up, I always pick up as do the limited people who walk my dogs. I completely understand and agree with the irritation and annoyance caused by people not picking up faeces, however, to my mind It is not physically possible to pick up liquid. It is most definitely not illegal for a dog to do this and this reaction seems incredible and nothing short of bullying. Indeed bystanders told my friend to ignore him.

I wish I was a council! Parking permit plan!?!?!?! What parking permit plan? I am just like Indiepanda, brought my car with me to London two years ago and have barely used it since! Admitidely I had a scary moment when I realised half way up the M1 that my road tax had run out! My reminder had gone AWOL - luckily I was only a few days late and a trip to the PO the following day rectified the problem but it was a genuine mistake, occuring presumable from complete lack of use of car!!

Annasfield Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Did you have to pay to do this challenge, or did > the "sponsorship" go towards the cost? :) That's always a controversial one. My ex ran the Everest Marathon for charity, he raised a significant sum and got a fantastic time so achieved two good goals simultaneously. It was only later, over beer, a friend that didnt sponsor him ribbed him about using sponsorship to fund his whims - in actual fact 100% of the money raised went to the charity concerned, he had paid for his entrance, flights, accomodation, in fact 100% of his expenses etc himself, even taking time umpaid leave from work. He was quite put out that that assumption had been made, however, this does seem a common way for charities to "encourage" fund raising. Dont agree with it myself but I suppose they do still get some money. I suppose its OK if the person undertaking the challenge is up front about how much goes to the charity and how much pays for the "challenge".

my old next door neighbour (in ED) referred to herself as a gypsy. I dont know whether she really was or not or but she was proud of her gypsy heritage. -

I heard nothing for a month, the money was then credited back but nothing further said! I complained about the lack of communication (erm none!), the time it took and the general poor handling of the whole incident - namely me being rejected money in London but those in Canada / South Africa happily spending. I received a letter of apology, advised the fraud team were aware and would be looking at their communication and I got ?100 credited to my account. Sounds like the problem hasnt been rectified yet!

Fatest way to Paddington is to catch the 7.15 train to London Bridge from East Dulwich, then get the Jubilee line to Baker street and then the Bakerloo to Paddington. I usually get to Paddington about 7.50 on that route. The tube change is easy its just over the platform.

I have just received a text from the RSPCA, pressure is needed to prevent a badger cull in England. There is a petition which takes two seconds to sign and may make a difference (if your against the culling) http://www.backoffbadgers.org.uk/england/index.php Clare

Live in East Dulwich and work in .....?????????

Sonners Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Oooh, thanks for the tip Cassius! Are the trains > quite regular from Denmark Hill to Blackfriars? There are about 4 trains an hour. Some go all the way to City Thameslink which is closer still. The number 45 bus goes from Blackfriars to Chancery Lane and is pretty regular, alternatively it is just a 10 minute walk if you exit the station from the correct exit. The exit you want is to head as though your going to the underground, but bear right down the underpass. Go straight ahead through the underpass, leaving by the steps on the right, the bus stop for the number 45 is straight ahead, or you can walk. If you get your timings right you can do the trip in 35 mins :)) -

Dont really "hang out" with other dog owners but tend to get to know the other dog walkers who walk in the same location and at the same times as you. Dulwich park early in the morning always very popular! How about trying local dog training / agility classes? That would definitely get you dog owners hanging out together! As for the other questions, I dont buy dog magazines etc. I did however buy a dog training book and a book on the particular breed prior to getting a dog to ensure that the breed was right for me and that I knew how to train a dog. I also went to puppy training classes, hunt traing and agility - predominently for obedience and to socialise my dogs.

I too was on the phone for ages having to keep calling different people, I then heard nothing further despite calling 2 / 3 times to ask for an update - I was promised call backs from the fraud team on each occasion but they never materialised. Money has just been credited back nearly a month later, still havent heard anything from Abbey though! I have sent them a letter complaining about the poor detection / poor communication / length of time to return money, will let you know what they say !
