  1. The Castle is the closest pub to where I live.... I have ventured in a few times and found it friendly :-)
  2. Wonder if it will still be pink!
  3. Usually they are OK from 7am to about 7.40, from then onwards they are packed! Totally agree with you, it is really annoying and would be great if extra busses were put on at this time!
  4. Have you reported the burglary to the police? You will need to do this and they will give you a crime reference number which you will need to provide to your insurers. Did you tell the police you lost your keys? For the insurers to reject the claim this situaton would need to be excluded in the policy wording. If you cant find an exclusion that covers this, you should be covered (provided of course theft is covered). Stick with the truth, insurers are not stupid and are particularly vigilant at the moment what with the economic situation.

Oh..... so not "any" old journalist then? How do you know which are reputable and which are not?!?!? How does a "fact checker" check the facts are correct? Presumably first hand only and under strict lie detector present conditions? Lucky the Courts rules on evidence are not so strict!
  6. most of what is written in the paper's is not obtained first hand!
  7. Definitely the minority of passengers.... as always the minority ruin for the majority :-(

I went through all this rigmoral and still the transaction was turned down!?!?!
  9. Whose in a frenzy? I really don't understand your issue here. Feel free to disbelieve absolutely anything unless you see the evidence yourself, casting aspersions upon other's integrity is pretty poor form though.
  10. Too right! I am beginning to think cash in the mattress is the way forward ;-) It would kill internet business and a lot of other business if Banks did this - I am not sure what the answer is. Having had it happpen to me (no idea how it was cloned!) I now keep minimal money in my current account (the one at risk of cloning) and just transfer money to it as and when I need to. Maybe the answer is to have a "cash" account ie an account that is used solely for paying by card / drawing cash and nothing else, with minimal money of course - not really conveninet though. When my card was cloned it took around a month to get my money back.... glad to get it back but ?1000 is a lot of money to be without over that period of time :-(
  11. like the local rag? ;-) I have never said we should "take to the roof and scream" stabbing or no stabbing that would be rather extreme, dont think anyone else has suggested that either. The point I made was simply that the poor girl was stabbed, just because the original intent was a mugging that doesnt make the fact she was stabbed any less significant. Not sure what anyone would gain by making this up and personally don't need to read the details in the South London Press, London Lite etc to believe that it happened. I will simply be more aware of my surroundings as a consequence of this thread.
  12. Having had my bank card cloned about a year ago I am all for banks being cautious of transactions and verifying that the card owner is actually the person spending but this has happened to me THREE TIMES in FOUR DAYS grrrrrrrrr. It is so time consuming and one transaction was one I make every week!! Hardly suspicious. Its happened twice with my bank (one of which they declined me despite having answered all the questions correctly, leaving me with no alternative means of payment - a mistake apparantly) the third with my credit card, trying to buy some furniture from JL - apparantly didnt meet my usual spending pattern (Who does buy furniture regularly ?!?!?!) Anyway, having wasted a considerable amount of time on the phone to bank, CC company and JL all is well. Damn annoying though! I think there is a conspiracy to prevent me spending at the moment :-(
  13. They are very nice - although the single seat behind the driver smells rather plasticy! Will Travel London make other improvements I wonder......

A stab wound close to the heart sounds serious to me! It is fortunate the injuries were not worse than they were, the fact its not "newsworthy" doesnt make it any less significant. There is an awful lot of crime that doesn't enter the public domain, this is an active choice for public policy reasons.
  15. The victim was stabbed, it was therfore a stabbing. Just because the initial intent was mugging, doesnt stop the end result which was a stabbing being as such. The mugger was armed with a knife and used it. To stab someone in their chest millimetres from the heart is attempted murder! If a burglar attacks someone in their home, the attack on the person whether it be assault, battery, ABH, GBH, attempted murder, murder or manslaughter still stands..... doesnt get down graded to burglary just because that was the initial intent! I suspect the increased police presence is due to teh spate of muggings/ attempted muggings by a gang of young ish lads (on another thread) and not a knee jerk reaction to a shooting which was isolated and the perpetrators have been caught and charged with.
  16. That's awful! I hope your friend is better soon, what a terrible experience. Mugging is cowardly enough but to actually go for attempted murder when the victim puts up a fight! What kind of crazy person was this!!!!! Where on MG did it happen? I know I and many others use MG as a cut through from the train station!!
  17. You would know a tick........ they look like lentils and attach themselves sucking blood and getting bigger! Horrid things - not that fleas are nice either!
  18. Lets hope they keep the old one's running in addition, may stand a chance of getting on a bus at 8am then :-)
  19. Did you know there is a ?500 note in existence!

I was surprised to see that too! Fair enough selling at face value but blatantly profiteering isn't on at all :(
  22. Let me know if the male human urine trick works ;-) Stillno night visits here..... or at least if there are they are tidy now!
  23. Isn't one enough!!! What ever happened to variety? I checked out the Costcuter ad and the new store was at three hundred and ninety something LL. I looked at this "Somerfield / Tesco" site this morning and the number starts at 357 (as you are going South).
  24. The Web cam threat seems to have worked.... no wet wombles or rubber duckie thieves since Friday night! Clearly the culprit(s) read the forum, and this thread!!!
  25. The leaflet that was put through my door definitely had "opening soon" and although I can't remember the exact numbers it was more than one unit. I will dig it out the recycling tonight and look again - I hope its not a costcutter!!!!
