This is basic care which they not only failed but didn't show concern. The thought of a 2 year old out alone is horrifying.

My friends sister had her first at 43, no problems conceiving and normal pregnancy. My friend had her first at 42 following IVF - her notes stated 'geriatric mother' how cheeky ;)

Interested in this one too, we have a 3 and 4 year old and would like a third. I was 40 last week so wondering whether we should go for it or forget it!

We have two children of our own and now adopt / foster animals ;) Nowhere near as expensive and doesn't necessitate a larger house or car! I'm with snowboarder on this one, number 1 and 2 came immediately and number 3 more elusive. I've just turned 40 so now questioning whether we should forget a third or actively try ASAP rather than leaving to fate as was the case previously.

Ouch, I had this recently and was unable to get to a Dr for antibiotics. I did some googling and gargling with apple cider vinegar came up as a natural remedy. Apparently it creates an environment where the bacteria cannot survive. I tried it, and it actually worked (I had had it a few days at this point but having never had it before not immediately recognised what it was). I had been using ibuprofen for the pain up until then, not that that helped much with the sore throat. Definitely get antibiotics ASAP but gargle with the apple cider vinegar too, worked wonders for me - although not exactly pleasant!!

ClareC replied to Emmett's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
How awful, thoughts are with the family. I used to live on Goodrich Road, where on the road did this happen? -
My Favourite Nursery - what's it like?
ClareC replied to Ruth.J.Davies's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My daughter went there before we moved, the staff are lovely and it's a caring environment. -
Yes, thank you :)

The mysterious head of Goodrich - does he really exist?

Agreed. I don't think every parent would expect a meeting with the head, however, for some, there are many factors where it is useful for reasons other than 'self absorption'. I would be surprised if any parent would speak with the head for any reason other than trying to do right by their child. Not sure how this is construed as 'self'. From what I know of Goodrich it is a good school and the head is a good head, that said he won't suit all. I personally found making a decision as to which school to put as first choice very hard, there were two I liked and in an ideal world I would have cherry picked from both! I looked at 4 schools and only requested a meeting with the head at one, it had already been made very clear she was happy to meet with prospective parents and answer any questions they had. We met with her some months after viewing the school having been in a situation where the heart said that particular school but the head said another (better results). Having undertaken copious amounts of research and worked out that the published results are not always as they appear, it was really helpful meeting up with the head to ask the questions we had to ask, explained the published information, and couldn't be discovered without meeting the head. Nothing about self absorption, simply about trying to make the best choice for my child having made myself aware of all the facts available to me. Clearly now my daughter has a place, if I had any queries etc my first port of call would be her teacher (or is it self absorption to expect to speak to the teacher when their job is to teach not speak with parents?). It is however comforting to know the head is approachable and there to speak with should the situation arise where it was necessary. I hope very much it never does. The family room is a great resource with really helpful users and a community feel. It is sad when the mud slinging and insults shown on other area's of the forum find their way here. -
Agreed. In the circumstances I am sure this is an oversight which will be rectified in time. The family will have a lot to organise / sort out and will not necessarily understand the workings of the business.

The mysterious head of Goodrich - does he really exist?
ClareC replied to Norfolkvillas's topic in The Family Room Discussion
A school guessing user names!?!?! Too much time on their hands clearly methinks, and ever so slightly stalker scarey ;) I have no experience with Goodrich however did get to meet with head of the school we ultimately put as our first choice prior to listing our preferences. We were torn between two schools, one with a "super" head who was very unavailable and another very good school although with very slightly less impressive results. That meeting which was readily available and we were not rushed in any way sealed our choice! Fortunately we were offered a place at the school and my daughter starts this September. The head is readily available, stands at the gate every morning and greets each child by name and is rated highly by offsted. It is possible to manage a school well and be available to parents on the occasion they feel they need to meet with the head, which let's face it is once in a blue moon! Based on your recent experience I think you have made the right choice. -
Lovely area but things to really watch are transport links - can be really slow, and schools. There are lots of lovely areas where the schooling choices are not great unless you go private. We found a beautiful house in East Sussex but didn't pursue it due to the above reasons. Battle is nice, and has good schools. Link to London rather slow but there has been an ongoing campaign to extend the Marsh Line. If that went ahead it would add it to HS1 which would make a huge difference.

holiday rent by the sea within 3 hours of ED

I would second Swanage, there is a lovely hotel in Corfe which is close by but only a small village so not ideal for a family. -
Hydra lovely! Not many pools though....

Like :)

Great suggestions, thank you :) Nantucket off, lots of other better options to investigate!

My husband was living in Gothenburg when we met, I've subsequently visited many times. The islands are beautiful, would recommend hiring a Stuge. Midsomer is a huge celebration and fun to be there and experience the celebrations.

We have booked a week's skiing next Feb, daughter starts reception in September. As we don't technically have a place yet (not yet awarded) so there wasn't anyone to ask but I plan to rely on the fact she legally doesn't have to be at school then. The term after she is 5 is Easter. We won't do it from year 1 onwards -have already booked Easter skiing that year and thereafter. Before the rule changes the head was ok with it, think their hands are tied now although the school has now become an academy so maybe that gives them more flexibility. There is a ski company that pays the fines ;) to be honest the fines are much smaller than the increased cost of the holiday. Going forward we will just holiday outside of term time but provided child not struggling at school and doing well I personally think holidays are good and (can be) part of their education.

Anyone managed to get their income considered when newly self employed (i.e. In absence of 3 years self employment accounts)? Our mortgage deal is up for renewal in May, we would like to increase the loan by a small amount to finish off house renovations but to do so my income would need to be used (currently loan based on husbands only as I was on maternity leave when we last remortgaged). Problem is I've just changed from permanent employment to self employment - same line of work, same client, still get 3 months notice just earn more and work for other clients too. I worked this way pre children so have a number of years experience (and accounts) but there is a gap of maternity leave and permanent employment in between which seems to be problematic. Thank you

Baby one Tommy's 2010, baby two Kings 2011. Both hospitals fantastic, better views from the Kings operating theatre ;) Seriously, both excellent but much easier when living in ED to go to Kings, closer for antenatal appointments, when in labour / visiting etc.

"the man had started the cycle away from the house and shouted back 'wrong house'. Anyone else had a knock close to Colwell this eve?" How would he already have known it was the wrong house? Suspicious behaviour, behaviour being the issue!
