  1. This building, by the roundabout, suddenly started undergoing renovation a few weeks ago. The work seems to have ground to a halt. Does anyone know why?
  2. @ TheBeard You do know that you can (and probably should) make formal complaints to the Audit Commission and the Committee on Standards in Public Life?
  3. The C of E could have placed covenants in the deed of sale to protect the vestry, given that the C of E knew that the vestry was listed. It did nothing despite being the owner of huge numbers of listed buildings.
  4. Yes but you have to get to Lewisham first and the #185 can take ages especially in lunchtime traffic. I have never understood why it so difficult to get to City Airport or Docklands from East Dulwich or Forest Hill, both of them should be put on the East London Line so that you can change at New Cross Gate. In fact if I had my way, and BoJo's guarantee of action, I would put all the mainline railway stations and City and Heathrow Airports on the Circle line so that you could travel to any of them without having to change lines as you do at the moment. If we have to have Crossrail it should come into Marylebone not Paddington, which already has umpteen Tube lines, so that people travelling in from the High Wycombe etc part of Buckinghamshire don't have to change twice just to get to Central London.
  5. The P13 is briliant for going to the Dog Kennel Hill Sainsbury's as it pulls right into the car park, and it stops just down from the end of my road so I don't have to walk far with bags of shopping.
  6. The organisation really to blame here is the Diocese of Southwark; it sold St Peter's Church and its vestry (the Concrete House) separately in order to make a quick profit. That should never have been allowed to happen and everyone at the time said so. The church has also in my opinion not been entirely as well looked after as it should have been, what was meant to be temporary scaffolding on one of the buildings has now become permanent and the grounds have never been properly maintained.
  7. Actually Alleyn's was one of the first 19th C grant maintained schools. It was created as a result of the then new Charity Commission forcibly re-scheming Dulwich College after it succeeded in having Edward Alleyn's will broken in the courts.
  8. I once went to Polish-Italian neighbours for Christmas Eve and we had bison grass vodka and sledzie on rye bread, plus poppy seed cake. Fantastic! One of my all time favourite memories.
  9. Sorry Vallajo but my brother was also a pupil at the time and that it is not what he told me.
  10. The schools (Dulwich College, Alleyn's, James Allen's and St Olave's) are not major landowners. The Edward Alleyn Foundation is the landowner. I apologise for my spelling error, the result of a long day and sore eyes. The schools exist primarily for the benefit of their pupils, if they choose to make their facilities available to non-pupils they should do so voluntarily not because they have been either forced or subjected to threats. The persistent attacks on private schools in this country, which do a wonderful job, are unconscionable.
  11. My brother went to Alleyn's and is not an over-privileged tosser, I went to JAGS. As for Derek Fenner he was so hated by the pupils that the sixth form used petrol to born what they thought of him into the front law (4 letter word beginning with C). In the right light you can still see it.
  12. Huge delays on the #185 again and tailback at Camberwell Green. It took me an hour and a half to get from ED to Victoria.
  13. From whom for heaven's sake?

Beaver What about the two old ladies whom he shouted at which I reported on this site? I complained to TfL who told me that they had passed it on to East Thames Buses and since then nothing. Do you think it was alright for him to verbally abuse a 90 year old and her partially sighted friend? Is that doing his job?
  15. Louisiana Report King's to the Office of the Information Commissioner for failure to keep proper records and to update those records when requested; copy your letter to King's CEO.
  16. I suspect that if the Taplins had merely written to the Commons Fees Office they would have been brushed off; by telling the DM as well the Fees Office and the Commissioner are obliged to take it seriously or face some very difficult explaining.
  17. Sounds good to me, see you there.
  18. Clazza would also like to come. When is a convenient date for everyone?
  19. Right I have emailed Miffy and CW1 directly; anyone else for shopping and drinks? :)-D
  20. I'm with Miffy, my 40th is rapidly approaching and everyone in ED seems to be married.
  21. I can't believe that the police advised that Dulwich Park should be closed because of a snowball fight, the Borough Commander should be asked to apologise and reprimand the officer(s) responsible. As for closing the parks because of H&S concerns, if we got up a petition to Southwark's CEO asking her to start treating us like grown-ups do you think she would pay attention? Is Tessa reading this thread? If you are Tessa please could you make enquiries on our behalf?
  22. I don't remember seeing any planning notice for this; I think Val etc should make a formal complaint to the CEO of Southwark and ask for an explanation. There is no demand for a Somerfield up here and frankly the one on Lordship Lane is pitiful.
  23. Situation not helped by all the lorry drivers who couldn't get around yesterday choosing today instead, as well as bus drivers travelling more slowly than usual due to there still being ice on some roads.
  24. Post delivered on Belvoir today.
