  1. If Nisha managed to obtain this local government officer's name she should report him to the relevant Chief Officer for misconduct and disrepute, as well as abuse of authority. Also, I would have thought, although I may be wrong, that as Val's has been there so long that it would have 'grandfather' rights in terms of any new licensing requirements.
  2. Gunay (spelling?) of Fabric 205 is a Seljuk Turk by descent. He has lived in the area all his life and went to school at what was William Penn. He is a brilliant haberdasher and the blinds he made for me are fantastic, Gunay could not have been more helpful and accommodating when I was choosing the fabrics I wanted and the day I wanted the blinds installed. I am baffled by the criticism of him here and know that the first time he was the subject of an unkind thread on this forum was the first and last time that he looked at the EDF. Those of you who are complaining about Gunay here are wasting your time because he will never see this thread.
  3. Dear James I have just discovered that LB Southwark's Revenues and Benefits Office is based in Bromley. This seems rather strange, could you confirm whether LB Southwark checked whether the local government legislation permits this? There are several statutes which prevent local authorities offering or locating services outside their geographical boundaries. If s.2 of the Local Government Act 2000 is being cited I would suggest that is not a proper use of the well-being power. In addition, by locating the office in Bromley LB Southwark is having to pay business rates to another borough which again is not an appropriate use of Southwark residents taxes.
  4. Take the #176 bus to Waterloo, Southwark tube is behind Waterloo East.
  5. Have a lovely holiday.
  6. Declan A friend asked about Catholic schools in the area, I wouldn't dream of asking anyone about their reasons for believing in their particular faith. It would be presumptuous, arrogant, bigoted and above all INCREDIBLY RUDE!!! Moreover, to whom I speak and what I speak to them about is absolutely none of your business.
  7. PeckhamRose I asked my question because it is important to someone whom I know; not for political reasons.
  8. Does anyone know of any in the borough?
  9. Mick Mac Yes it is true, the vixen contracts around the dog - apparently rather painful, hence the noise.
  10. Dear Barry I know that Forest Hill is no longer one of your stations but could you have a word with whoever is now in charge there? I was supposed to travel to Haywards Heath today, having been on staycation I was unaware of the works taking place at Forest Hill station and had not realised that the footbridge at the station has been closed. There are no signs outside the station informing people of this; no signs inside the station and there has been no local advertising. I put my ticket through the barrier and when it didn't work only then did one of the station staff tell me I would have to walk around to the subway. The staffmember who sold me my ticket hadn't mentioned it. My ticket wouldn't work at the barrier for platform 2 either, presumably because it had already been processed by the platform 1 barrier, and I had to ask to be allowed through. To make matters worse I ended up having to ask for a refund as signal problems at London Bridge meant that I couldn't make my trip anyway. It would have been helpful to know in advance about the footbridge and Forest Hill's station manager should have had the foresight to publicise it.
  11. Erm, without wishing to be picky - shouldn't that be Celestial Girl Heroine?
  12. Dear Gimme I think your first route of complaint is the Civil Aviation Authority.
  13. Sue True, I only go to IKEA if I absolutely have to and then only to buy something specific.
  14. There is an alternative: don't drive but take the train from Forest Hill to East Croydon and then take the tram to IKEA (Ampere Way). It's a doddle.
  15. Dear James Do you know if anything is going to be done about the collapse of the road surface of Lordship Lane in front of the bus stops outside the Post Office and The Sea Cow respectively? I emailed Southwark about it and was told to contact TfL which I did but no response has ever been forthcoming. The surface outside The Sea Cow is now actually starting to split and I do worry that eventually the road is going to collapse completely right underneath a bus and there will be a serious accident. Also, I understand that Lordship Lane is a GLA road but I don't think that Southwark should be telling residents to contact TfL when Southwark must know the right people at TfL to whom it could speak directly and speed things up. Messages sent via TfL's website just seem to disappear.
  16. Dear James Thanks for this, I will ask the council about the smaller bin.
  17. The problem on my road is that Southwark imposed the wheelie bins without taking into account the Victorian/Edwardian housing stock with basement access which constitutes nearly all the houses. This means that there is nowehere in the front gardens of nearly all the houses to put the bins. The upshot of this is that there is a large number of bins that reside permanently on the pavement because there is nowhere else for them to go. It would be helpful if when Southwark (or any local authority) adopts a design that some consideration is given to the nature of the existing housing stock.
  18. Trinity I was thinking of DC boys at the senior school, which is what they were when I was at JAGS in the 1980s. The younger boys always mean Dulwich Prep rather than College to me but I take your point.
  19. Dear Zebedee Have you considered writing to the Master at Dulwich College and/or the Governors of the Edward Alleyn Foundation? You could point out to them that as no DC boys are aged 10 and under no DC boys should be cycling with impunity on pavements which are not 'legally' shared. Perhaps a stern word at morning assembly might help.
  20. @ Peckhamgatecrasher Your farmer friend should talk to Franklin's, their shop sells produce from farmers local to London.
  21. Actually yes I would ask for the lighting at Piccadilly Circus to be turned off, if I knew to whom to write. All lights on buildings and floodlights attached to buildings should be switched on only at lighting up time and should be switched off at 11.00pm. All streetlights should be fitted with 'blinkers' so that the light they produce is aimed towards the pavement and not in a general halo around them, and all orange sodium bulbs should be replaced with white halogen bulbs. Here endeth the rant.
  22. Dear Laurie I would like to see TfL reinstate the original #63 bus route, i.e. the one that ran from Crystal Palace to King's Cross. TfL knew perfectly well that the Eurostar terminal was moving to St Pancras and yet still it split the route between the new #363 and the now #63. In effect they cut off the residents of South London from the Eurostar. This is unacceptable, TfL should be made to explain their stupidity, apologise, and give an undertaking to reinstate the direct connection as soon as possible. On the subject of TfL recommending 2 or 3 bus routes on its website when in fact only 1 is required, surely this is misleading advertising and TfL should be reported to OfCom and/or the ASA. A stiff fine should concentrate TfL's collective mind wonderfully.
  23. According to the Highway Code pedestrians have the right of way as soon as they set foot on a pedestrian crossing, regardless of what the driver may be doing.
