  1. I had severe back issues a few years ago and found a steroid injection helped me back on my feet - basically eased the pain whilst I built the muscles back up to help prevent future problems. I found Has-Fit videos (search on YouTube - they're free) excellent - search for lower back exercises and you will find the majority focus on strengthening glutes and mobilising your hips where possible. Pilates and yoga are excellent. If swimming be careful with breaststroke as it can cause more issues. My brother has issues with back, shoulders, neck and knees due to being very tall, so yes I definitely think you're right that can be a cause, along with lots of other things. Hope his pain eases soon - for short term relief try Voltarol gel and also add in lots of anti-inflammatory foods (google and you'll get a list) especially ginger tea and turmeric is another good one. Best wishes
  2. I saw him on the phone to his manager... wondered what he was going to do - glad I wasn't witness to that !
  3. Does sound a bit rude to be honest. We have vegetarian and vegan recipe books and have tried some from online but over the years I've had some great recipes passed on from friends and family... and I love talking to people (online or in person) and so here I am chatting on a forum! Thanks to everyone else for your tips and suggestions, I'm going to give a few of them a try! 🙂 P.S. my husband has done a ton of research but I'm adding to his collection...I find life is nicer that way Sue 😉 Good reminder, I find BBC GoodFood recipes really helpful and generally pretty easy
  4. My husband became pescetarian a few years ago and now wants to be vegetarian / poss vegan eventually - for health benefits but also concerned about animal welfare etc. I would love some inspiration from those who've tried and tested many veggi recipes, as I often get stumped and stick with my usual tomato and veg based pasta or cauliflower / mushroom curries. Thanks!
  5. Eden Caterers are amazing - https://www.edencaterers.london/
  6. I'd also assume that pollution is worsened when the weather is hotter and there is less breeze blowing about... Humid high temps definitely make it feel more difficult to breathe and the latest London bus design remains as rubbish as ever, with hardly any air circulating from the tiny windows. You'd think someone would have addressed by now - another great innovation in Boris the mayor's time.
  7. I noticed it too when walking to the station... The fire details you found sound quite likely, as it definitely doesn't smell like usual burnt toast or burning rubbish etc.
  8. Great to see productive meetings happening on LTNs and a more balanced view being taken into account. I'm personally against as I don't think they help improve the air quality and just increase pollution (through slow moving traffic on main roads like Lordship Lane and through Dulwich Village) and must be horrendous for those living on those main roads. Surely the aim has to be to encourage more people to use public transport as well as cycling and walking? LTNs just slow down buses on main roads and as far as I can see benefit a minority of people.
  9. The road surface looks really bad near the station (across the road near the DIY shop), looks like it melted at some point! Not sure if that is also being resurfaced... Huge inconvenience, hope they sort it out before school term starts but sounds like more work is planned next week!
  10. My sons have attended this holiday club since they were 4 yrs old and love it - go to www.nimblearts.co.uk to see what the activities and themes are / more info / to book.
  11. A great new addition to the area and definitely brightens it up near the station...
  12. until
Cream teas, various stalls, Raffle and Tombola. Lots of prizes to be won! Lots of fun for all the family. In rear garden of St Thomas More church by Dulwich Library - walk through the car park and you'll see it all ! All welcome, should be fun scouts fair.pdf
  13. Desperate times eh
  14. Have people noticed there is more crime in ED particularly over last year or so. Seems to be getting worse and when our MP (Helen Hayes) wrote to the police about a crime I reported, they admitted that there has been a rise in "anti social behaviour and crime". I have anecdotally heard of more car crime, bike thefts, more muggings / theft mobile phones than ever before. On our road there has been a car crime roughly every month - from theft of number plates to theft of catalytic converts and a stolen range rover (it had a tracker and was found in Beckenham, which surprised me given theft of luxury cars is usually real organised crime and the cars are shipped overseas very quickly as far as I can gather). Our neighbour had their door kicked in (early evening) and jewellery stolen. This has always been a really quiet road in central East Dulwich so the rise in crime is a bit concerning. I would suggest people write to the police if they are a victim of crime, as they are working with Southwark council to get more CCTV around the area (we have hardly any compared to neighbouring areas) which I feel would act as a deterrent and that is snr police's view also.
  15. We get post roughly weekly if we're lucky. When I do it sounds like an earthquake with the pile that is delivered. Another example of privatisation going badly wrong and consumers bearing the brunt for corporate greed. My mum was telling me it was cheaper for her to courier a parcel to me via Evri than sending via Royal Mail. Not good.
  16. Amazing juices, incredible initiative and really sweet lovely young men!
  17. Our car had its catalytic converter stolen at 8.30pm on a Saturday night from outside our house. Our young kids watched the whole thing. 4 Masked men, one with a metal bar. Used an angle grinder or similar. Like a movie. Horrifying. 999 didn't answer for 6 minutes. Neighbour had same experience trying to get through. The police rang me the next morning. No further action as no CCTV (which is why this area is now a big target apparently compared to some others). Our neighbour had their door kicked in on Wednesday. Same day as this bike theft. We are in a quiet road, terraced so rare to have burglaries. So brazen and upsetting. Police numbers being halved by Conservative governments since 2010 has led to this, along with cost of living crisis meaning everyone is poorer and sadly criminals seem to think everyone in ED is wealthy which is far from reality.
  18. Try Juice Bros in East Dulwich - order at their instagram page / they can whatsapp you their number. 2 young kids real entrepreneurs making delicious fresh juice and way lower prices than Joe & The Juice! https://londonnewsonline.co.uk/10-and-12-year-old-juicing-bros-impress-with-new-business/
  19. That sounds infuriating. I never understand the peeping of horns at antisocial hours. Totally inconsiderate, especially given we all live in close proximity in ED.
  20. 306 definitely sounds much better than some locally. I took my son to TJ the other day for his polio booster and the receptionists were rude (stressed but no excuse) and some appointments had been moved to Lister so some patients arriving to find they were in the wrong place. Melbourne Grove as it was had its issues but TJ is atrocious.
  21. TJ is awful. Near impossible to get appointments, unhelpful receptionists, only phone appointments when you actually are offered an appointment. We moved to DMC which is as you say also awful. They also appear connected as I was offered an appointment at TJ when the appointments had gone at DMC. I know people happy with the Gardens and the surgery on Lordship Lane which someone above has recommended. Shameful what has become of our GP surgeries in the last few years. Underfunding coming to the fore and European GPs left in droves due to Brexit.
  22. I am very concerned about the number 40 and other key bus routes disappearing due to TFL cuts (thanks essentially to the Conservative government squeezing the budget and holding Mayor Khan to ransom). Is there anything we can do other than fill in the consultation and sign petitions (numerous seem to be doing the rounds)? Thanks for all you do in the area
  23. Years ago I asked for a key to help maintain the noticeboard on North Cross but was told only a couple of people have keys. One was the woman who runs Health Matters but she rarely seemed to keep them updated. A real shame it's now damaged as they can be very useful in showing what's on and local councillor details etc.
  24. What a bizarre post.. why object to building work on just one road in Dulwich? As Sue says it's surely people repairing or improving their houses. Building noise is unfortunately something we all have to deal with as the cost of moving is so high in London.
  25. www.nimblearts.co.uk Wonderful holiday club for 4-11 yr olds - my sons have attended since they were very little and absolutely love it.. It's like a real life Blue Peter, with experienced teachers supervising and loads of fun. Different theme every day and they learn lots of skills and make new friends. There is even a bouncy castle, which they LOVE! Highly recommended. Plus they have early start and late finish for working parents.
